Overall this hotel was a very good hotel. We stayed for 7 days in June and really enjoyed staying at the hotel, although if you are looking for a hotel with nightlife, this is possibly not the best hotel to stay at. Here's why we liked the hotel...

Rooms: Our room was strangely laid out but of a decent size. The bathroom was also a decent size with a toilet, bidet, sink and bath with overhead shower (and retracting washing line - perfect for drying swimwear!) The highlight of this room however, was the view from the balcony. We had perfect views of the hotel pool, the marina and the sea. We were situated on the 6th floor and our room was on the corner so we only had people on one side of us. Ask for Room 602 - you won't be disappointed!

The hotel itself was spotlessly clean and for the most part staff were very friendly and efficient. Special mention must go to a young gentleman who fronted the reception desk who went out of his way to help us find an alternative room for two of our group, one of whom is less mobile than the rest of us and needed a room near the lift. I did not take his name unfortunately but he should be highly commended for his customer service skills. Needless to say that he got a big tip at the end of our stay!

We ate at the hotel restuarant twice during our stay and the food was delicious on both occasions although quite expensive for a buffet meal. The selection of foods was huge, with a choice of several hot dishes, cold meats, breads and rolls, cheeses, rice, pasta, several varieties of potato/chips a salad cart and then an ice cream selection and a choice of desserts ranging from chocolate mousse and creme brulee to fruit salad. There was also hot soup (different varieties most nights) on offer.

The breakfast buffet was also full of variety. There was the usual tea, coffee, speciality teas and water plus several different fruit juices, several types of egg, cheeses, cold meats, cereals, breads and pastries, fried breakfasts, a huge selection of fruits and yoghurts. Plus probably some other items that I've forgotten!

There are two pools at the hotel, one indoors and one outside. We ventured down to the indoor pool on one occasion but the temperature of the area was so hot we couldn't bear it for more than a few minutes. The gym is a little run-down and lacking in any real equipment and was also a little too hot for my liking. The outdoor pool however is in stark contrast to the indoor pool and is too cold, even despite the outside temperature being on average 28 degrees all day! There are plenty of sunloungers and there are signs telling you that saving sunloungers with towels etc is forbidden, but many hotel guests did not abide by this rule, so if you can't beat 'em, join 'em is what I say! (And that is what we did!) There is a pool bar but drinks are expensive. Do not buy bottled water from there if you can help it. We bought water from there and it cost 3.50 euros for a 1.5 litre bottle. Along the marina, water costs 1.25 euros and in the local supermarket it costs around .50 cents. The pool bar serves cocktails, mocktails, alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, tea and coffee, as well as ice creams. There are chairs and tables situated around the bar if you want to have lunch/snacks (the pool bar also serves sandwiches, salads and other light lunches). There is also a jacuzzi outside which is a nice touch..and some leather sofas dotted around outside.

The hotel bar is very slow in serving customers most of the time. We ordered hot chocolates at the bar after returning from an evening out and had to wait 20 minutes, before we eventually cancelled our order and then ordered them from room service, which took less than 10 minutes to arrive! Incidentally room service food is very good and servings are generous.

There is a beach approximately 10 minutes walk away and the marina is literally across the road from the hotel. All in all I would say that the Vila Gale Marina is the perfect hotel for all your needs during a stay in Vilamoura. I'd definitely stay again.

The only negative I have to mention is that the a/c in our room was very noisy. We left it on overnight and it woke us up several times with noisy clicking. Luckily the temperature in the room was bearable without the a/c most nights.

Room Tip: As I said before, request Room 602 or 629. They have amazing views and are slightly more private th...

This is my second visit to this hotel the first being 2 years ago . The hotel is in an ideal position for both the marina and the beach .Rooms are of an average size but are comfortable and many have views over the marina . It is ideal for either singles, couples or families or even golfing groups. food is good and varied at both breakfast and dinner and snacks are available lunchtime around the pool. The hotel is kept very clean and staff with only a couple of exceptions are warm and welcoming . The entertainments team work hard and try to include everyone of all ages. sunbeds are generally available though early booking,( though discouraged) does occur. Was pleasantly surprised that a couple of staff recognised the group we were travelling in a warmly welcomed us all. I would have no qualms about returning to this hotel.

Room Tip: high floor with low numbered room

As being young couple in our 20's we fancied a relaxing break and the Vila gale marina was ideal!! We were on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the pool area
The marina is literally a 2 minute walk with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from one beach is a 5-10 minute walk but our favourite beach was a 20-25 minute walk through the marina this beach was less crowded
All the staff I encountered were all lovely friendly people who were eager to please and always greeted guests and asked how they were
We stayed half board selection was average in the evenings but I still never went hungry breakfast was lovely however I would maybe suggest a few more toasters
With regards to previous comments about the sun lounges around the pool ... There's a perfectly lovely beach round the corner! And what do you expect at peak season?
This was our first holiday to Portugal as we normally go to Spain and I can honestly say we both prefered Portugal to Spain!
Overall I would stay in this hotel again and recommend the Vila gale and Portugal to friends! The staff, food, cleanliness was all brilliant!!

We stayed at Vila galé Marina last year in July. We especially loved the location - close to the beaches.
The staff at the restaurant were nice and pleasant, but i need to confirm the other comments her: the food in the evening is VERY average and not warm enough. The drinks are not included, which could also be changed (soft drinks for example could at least be included in the price).
We had booked a Sea View room - and the room first given to us was on the 2nd or third floor...... We could hardly see the marina and asked for another one, which we got, accompagnied with a comment such as "the hotel is nearly fully booked but please note we are making a special effort" - well, there is only one price for sea view rooms, we paid the same price as the people with a REAL sea view......

One thing we LOVED was the evening entertainment - one evening only: Zé Lara, singing with his guitar. So funny and nicely entertaining. To be honest, we are in our 20's, and the public was much much much older that evening, but we fell in love - if I can say - with that man. LOVELY! Discovered when coming back at night after a couple of drinks in town, we reserved the evening the week after and stayed in hub to enjoy the show. I don't know if he is visiting all Vila Galé Hotels, but it is worth it, we had good laughs!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your satisfaction with us.
I do apologise for the lack of sea view room and assure it does not happen again in the future.

About Zé Lara, yes he is fantastic as a entertainer and he only visits our Vila Galé, Vila Galé Marina.

Just spent first two weeks of July in the hotel with our children. Excellent central location minutes from the beach and marina. Stayed half board although would go bed & breakfast next time. Good selection for breakfast however evening meals were very average. Discovered on last day that lunch could be obtained in lieu of evening meal if 24 hour notice given. The hotel was well cleaned both inside and outside although bathroom was very tired and the lift stopped on a few occasions too many. We had a second floor suite overlooking the pool which was very spacious and well serviced by the cleaner who was most helpful. The guy called Marco in reception always had a smile and could not do enough for you. Some of the girls in reception could learn from him! Evening entertainment was very poor. Highlights were the Reptile show & the Parrot show. Then you get your photo taken with the snake or parrot & charged 10 euros! Bar is basic with no incentive to return at night. Ice costs 2.50 euros! The pool area is excellent but despite warnings guests place towels on the sun loungers from first thing in the morning thus other guests cannot get places. The second week was especially busy causing congestion at times both at the pool and breakfast. Our children 13 & 8 used the kids club which I have to say was excellent. On occasions we stayed stayed at the hotel as the children were enjoying themselves so much. The staff who looked after them were brilliant. Despite any constructive criticism above this is a hotel I would return to but would like to see a little vision which could make it more like a 4 star.

I stayed in Vila Galé Marina during a weekend. The reception staff is polite and helpful and check in was quick. Our room was on the 3rd floor with pool view which is nice. The room was large and comfortable and it was very clean as well as the bathroom which I think need to be remodeled since it is a bit outdated however it has all amenities you may need and a good hair dryer. During the night this floor was very quiet we didn't hear any noise. Internet is paid so we didn't use it.

Pool area is nice and it had some animation programs. People cleaned this area everyday and it was well maintained.

Breakfast is good and it has good variety.

The hotel is about 10 minute walk to the beach and around 3 minutes to the marina which is great because most restaurants, bars and pubs are located in the marina. Casino is about 5 to 10 minute walk too.

To park your car you can do it in Mc Donald's park which is free, very close to the hotel and safe.

I really like our stay in Vila Galé Marina.

As a couple in our 20's, we stayed here the first week in July and thought the hotel and Vilamoura itself was superb.
First and foremost I'm pretty surprised at a lot of comments made on here which I read both before and after our stay. The only thing I noticed was 'outdated' were the lifts! The staff when we checked in and out were friendly and were more than helpful when we needed them during our stay.

We stayed on the 2nd floor which had a pool but not marina view, it did cost extra for a marina view which didn't really bother us. Despite coming in after midnight most nights we heard little/no noise from any nearby pubs or nightclubs as one reviewer recently stated. The rooms were nice and spacious and cleaned daily which was great. The room contained a safe but the key did cost extra (15 euros for the week).

The pool is in the shade but only till around 11 o clock which again didn't bother us too much as we tended to go to the beach first and return to the pool in the afternoon (by which time there was no shade anywhere). We didn't have a problem finding two sun lounges together even when it was quite busy which was great. Drinks are available from the pool bar and are no more expensive than the pubs around the marina.

We stayed based on the bed and breakfast option as we wanted to eat around the marina on an evening. There is a wide variety of food available at breakfast and the food was absolutely fine. Breakfast is available between 6-10.30 and fresh food is always brought out. The only recommendation id possibly make is make more toasters available as there were large queues at the busier times!

As mentioned before the hotel is a 2 minute walk to the marina which makes the location perfect (theres even a Mcdonalds 50m up the road!). Some places we ate out included il lamparo (Italian), harbour view (chinese), Lakshmi (Indian) and ostra d'ouro (grill) which are all around the marina. Prices aren't the cheapest but the food was great and the views onto the marina amazing. We also drank in the 19th hole, osheas and the Irish cabin, which we enjoyed as they had live bands most nights.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday and I for one will definitely be coming back to Vila Gale Marina sooner rather than later. If you want a relaxing holiday then this is the place to be!
