“Great location, lovely view from the room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2009

My boyfriend and I have just returned in May from a 5 day stay, Half Board at the Vila Gale Marina hotel in Vilamoura.
Location – the hotel is about a half hour taxi ride away from the airport which costs around 30 euros. Maybe look in to booking a transfer. Hotel overlooks the marina and is about 1 minute walk away from the beach.
Rooms – standard hotel room, clean and tidy, good size balcony. Bathroom is ok, good size but I agree with the other tripadvisor reviewer that a four star hotel shouldn’t have shower curtains. Our room was on the seventh floor in the middle section which meant we directly overlooked the marina. As another reviewer mentioned there were a few noisy guests, hotel is popular with groups of men on golfing holidays.
Food – good selection at breakfast buffet. Not many people chose to stay half board which is waiter service, you choose from a selection of food over four courses. Excellent variety of fish or meat, salads etc and all made to order so you know its not been hanging around. Bottle of house white wine cost about 12 euros. Would choose to stay half board again, especially with restaurants being pricey as the exchange rate is rubbish at the moment. Current price for dinner paying separately is 20 euros each which was much more than you can get it for when booking the whole holiday.
Staff – welcoming, friendly, attentive and spoke good English
Facilities – outdoor pool, indoor pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and gym. Lots of sunbeds and a pool bar too. Luggage room can be used for flights after checkout time of 12 noon. Small scale entertainment nightly in the foyer bar area.
The marina has many bars and restaurants catering to all tastes and is very pretty at night. We walked through the Tivoli hotel which is very modern inside and you can see why its so expensive but the location is not better than at this hotel. Just to note went to spain six weeks ago and it was much more expensive to eat out there than in Portugal. We would return to this hotel, particularly for the standard of the food.

A very good 4 star hotel, very clean, with attentive staff, good leisure areas and good location.
Just two things to improve: The quality of the breakfast and to remove the shower curtains in the bathrooms. (This days i think any 4 stars or above hotel shouldn't have shower curtains)

We were over booked in the Olympus next door so we where put up in the vila Gale and it was perfect. right in the thick of things. local bars and great Irish bar called the cabin which had a fantastic band. the resort itself is expensive and eating out can be dear. would travel back again and could not fault the hotel at all. great buffet breakfast. if married stay away from the Cats bar under the Olympus the menu is great !!!

Me and three mates stayed in this hotel at the beginning of March, we had originally booked two rooms between the four of us but upon arrival the girl behind reception kindly upgraded us to a superior suite on the 9th floor which was fantastic!

The suite itself had two large bedrooms(one of which had ensuite), a mid sized living room and a massive balcony. The views from the balcony were great, looking right out over the marina.

The suite itself was very clean, before we made a mess of it every night, but was always returned to the way it was when we first checked in by housekeeping. (Patient people)

We booked this hotel for basically a booze up for my mates birthday, however the type of hotel and the time of year meant that it was a bit quiet, however it would be perfect for familys with kids, couples and older travellers looking to just chill out

Another great thing about the hotel was the fact that it is so close to marina with all the restauraunts and bars, also it's very close to the beach.

Would stay again for sure but probably with the bird, rather than three mates looking to drink their own body mass in alchohol. (Which by the way was magically countered by the great buffet breakfast every morning)

We have recently returned from a very enjoyable holiday staying at the Villa Gale Marina Hotel in Vilamoura.

After an initial problem with our pre booked junior suite (booked to help celebrate a Special Birthday) the hotel management upgraded us to a Senior Suite on the 9th foor. The suites' accommodation was superb and the view from our huge balcony overlooking the marina/ the sea / and inland was magnificent -both day and night. This kind upgrade was very much appreciated by us both.
The maid /cleaning service was very efficient and unobtrusive.
Infact all the staff we met/spoke to were friendly and helpful throughout our stay .
The hotel restaurant had a set menu for evening meals which covered 5 courses (with approx4 choices for each course) priced a 20 euro's per head. we ate twice in the restaurant and each time we found our meals were very well presented and tasty = The buffet breakfasts were plentiful and fresh, with a wide variety of choice.

Being January, as one would expect, the hotel was not full, however there was still a varied programme of evening entertainment held nightly in the Bounty lounge Bar (which suited most of the guests very nicely and for those who wanted to watch sport events there were discrete screens in that lounge area too.) meals and snacks also being available there too -and at the same standard as the restaurant meals.
Dining out was a pleasure as there was such a variety of places to eat in. Concorde was very reasonably priced , good food & value for money. Ostra d' Ouro served excellent seafood and meat dishes, whilst the Algarvian Cataplana was really good at Perna de Pau.

A wander around the Cerro da Vila -the roman ruins & small museum - which can be found just behind the far side of the marina. at 2euro per head is well worth a visit.

The Wed Market at Quateria is typical of local markets found around europe.

One point to mention though is please be aware that we too met some middle-aged female guests in our hotel who had been mugged at twilight, in the area behind the various hotels/appartments that back on to the poorly lit park-open ground public parking area -near the supermarket by the childrens play area. So Yes, this does go on in Vilamoura , but this happens worldwide and we should always be aware/watchfull /careful / wherever we are.

If you want an assortment of shops go to the Algarve Shopping Mall in Guia near Albuferia also this mall is this is a round 500 hundred meters in front of the vineyard Adega Do Cantor the winery that produces Sir Cliff Richard's wine (Vida Nova). you have to book a wine tasting but it's well worth a visit too.

We do hope that ...if you go to Vilamoura you'll have as enjoyable holiday as we did. We intend to return again.
