“Not Very Impressed”
Reviewed 25 September 2012

We were staying in Alvor for the first week of our holiday & were looking for a hotel for the second week,we hired a car and were disappointed to find the hotels we were hoping to book in other resorts were fully booked, so we opted for this hotel as there were vacancies; after reading other peoples reviews it seems we were lucky to actually end up staying here & to not be shipped off to one of their sister hotels!

We were originally put in room 111, however after a sleepless night, listening to the comings & goings through reception until the early hours of the morning we asked for a different room & were given room 715 without a problem; from what I've read since it seems that the rooms on these two floors haven't had a refurb yet; although I probably should have guessed that as it was quite shabby for a supposed 5* hotel.

One of the first problems we encountered was a lack of a decent facilities for clothing, the drawers in the room were small & falling to pieces; & any empty counter space was cluttered with goods that the hotel wanted you to buy!

We had a sea facing room which had a lovely view; thankfully the nightclub had closed for the season so we weren't disturbed by the noise from that; but be aware if you are staying earlier in the season!

This hotel does not provide any complimentary water & charges extortionate rates to sell it to you; not what I expect from a 5* hotel! There were two incidents with cockroaches in the bathroom, the guy on reception described the first one as a mutant, it was so big, eukk! Regardless of the cockroaches I was not concerned at any point about the cleanliness of the room or beds, towels & bedding was changed frequently.

There was never a shortage of sun-beds & no-one felt the need to claim their beds with a towel at sunrise, which made a nice change, however , on the last day of our stay a group of around 350 people (lots of children) turned up & the place was turned into a Butlins camp, the noise was incredible, I was really pleased to be going home the next day, I believe they were staying for four days. Areas of the grounds were blocked off & were not available for the other paying guests.......I would have been outraged if I had been staying, but it seems that this is a regular occurrence after reading other reviews.

All in all the hotel is in a great location but I would most definitely not return!

This hotel is great for families. I loved this hotel as the facilities are great and it is in the best location. The service was good, the value is what you would expect from a 5* hotel, the beds were comfy, the lhotel was very clean, I did not use the spa unfortunately but the poor point was the breakfast which had variety but the english breakfast was not as good, the bacon and bones but overall a great holiday for all

Stayed here for 5 nights in September- the stay was wonderful-the hotel is spotless and has recently been refurbished. We enjoyed a 1st floor room overlooking the harbour- the room itself was very modern with great beds and a wel stocked mini bar and, a personal favourite of mine, a Nespresso coffee machine. The pool area was picturesque and clean. The food in the hotel was great-everything you could wish for at breakfast, great pool snacks for lunch and a wonderful place to dine in the evening at Peppers, the hotels resident steak house. All in all a great hotel with wonderful friendly and efficient staff -highly recommended

We had a refurbished superior room & apart from it being smaller than you would expect a superior room to be it was very well furnished & equipt. The bed was very comfy & the bedlinen was fine Egyptian cotton. They did not supply irons or ironing boards which would have been useful. The hotel staff are extremely polite & friendly especially the porters & the bar staff at the Side Bar. Drinks are expensive but the Side Bar is a lovely place to sit on a warm evening. The only downside is the Disco in the garden. How they thought that was a good idea I will never know. Luckily it was only running on Saturdays in September & finished at 1am but in high season it's open more & runs till 2am. Hotel Disco's/Clubs are more usually in basements so they do not annoy other guests. I think this was a big mistake on the part of Tivoli Hotels.

Room Tip: Beach view rooms have sun on balconies but loud music till late on some nights. Marina view rooms c...

We recently stayed 9 nights at the Tivoli Marina. We booked a deluxe double room over looking the marina. The room was spotless and received a welcome bottle of bottle on arrival. Hotel is spotless and clean and in an excellent location. We had a couple of issues with our sons bed missing on arrival and the wardrobe door falling off but after complaining we met with the Assistant Director who apologised formerly to us and that night we received Champagne and Strawberries - very nice touch. The breakfast was fab and the pool area is great especially the kids pool and the beach is on the door step however you do have to pay for the sun loungers on the beach. This was our 3rd trip to Vilamoura and love it - just booked our return trip to this hotel for 2013 x.

Couple of recommendations for eating out is the Don Alfonso just up the steps by the Hagen Das ice cream shop, La Fragata Steakhouse and Il Lamparo on the marina front are excellent for meals and are great if you have kids - makes the meal so much easier!!! (those you have kids will understand!!!).

We have also used yellowfishtransfers.com for transfers from the airport to Vilamoura - 50 euros return and for return bookings you receive a bottle of wine as a thank you - absolutely excellent service , very friendly, helpful and the cars are spotless with free wifi in the car!!! xx.

We stayed here 3 nights for business. Nice hotel, clean, friendly people and well located at the harbour with enough restaurants and bars for the after hours. The hotel offers full service including a bar and restaurants and a great pool as well as its location front to the beach. We were here end of summer so it was getting quiet, which was a plus if you stay here for business.
