“Lovely spring mini break!”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

We recently returned from a 3 night stay at the Tivoli Marina hotel. Having let them know in advance that it was a belated honeymoon, it was a real delight to arrive in our lovely beach view room to find a complementary bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, a bed strewn with rose petals and some very inventively folded swan shaped towels!
The service in general was excellent, from the reception staff to the waiters at the exceptional buffet breakfast.
The hotel is located right on the beach and is a short stroll to all the bars and shops on the main marina.
We would definitely return to this hotel again, as a young couple it had everything we could want out of a relaxing mini break and I fully recommend the spring time weather which was nice and warm without being overbearing.

The Tivoli Marina is a very luxurious and comfortable hotel, set overlooking the beach on one side and the harbour on the other. We booked a deluxe room, on the suggestions of the friends with whom we were travelling, who are regular visitors here. Not sure what the difference is though, as opposed to the standard room. Extremely comfortable bed and lovely pillows, plenty of storage space and a full length mirror! Free safe. An Nespresso machine for making tea/coffee at two euros a time. We didn't use it because we'd taken our own cup boiler and coffee. There were no instructions for using it anyway. Nice selection of toiletries in the bathroom. Our friends had theirs replaced as they used them but we didn't. Towels changed twice a day which was completely unnecessary. There's a bed turning down service whereby a maid comes in about 6pm (at least she did to us) just when you're showering, turns down the bed, removes the cushions, leaves two chocolates and a little bag in which to place your shoes if you want them cleaning...... Suggest you put the do not disturb sign on the door until you go out then remove it and she will come in later - this is where ALL the towels get changed for a second time!

Breakfast is good but not sensational, have had worse but have also had much better. Usual selection of cereals (friend's husband said the muesli was the oddest he'd ever had), small selection of fresh fruit, fresh juices also champagne if you can face it at breakfast! Some cooked dishes, keeping luke warm in a fair amount of grease. Omelettes made to order if you are willing to wait for someone to come and do this. Selection of rolls and croissants. 4 types of butter and spreads but only 1 flavour of jam, l marmalade and l honey, though 2 lots of diabetic spread. Tea and coffee brought to the table. No hot chocolate which would have been my choice.

There's a hairdresser in the hotel plus a HUGE library so unless there's something you really want to read, don't bother taking books. Friend enquired about a facial in the spa but was unwilling to spend 90 euros!!

We didn't use the pool as it was far too cold so I can't say if there were enough sunbeds but there was a parasol between every two chairs which is good.

The Loyalty Scheme is worth signing up to. Fill in the form in your room and take it to reception. You get a token per day to exchange at the little shop for a newspaper, free internet access - you have to log on every 24 hours though. This is billed to your room then deducted. You're also supposed to get free water - our friends didn't get this at all though they asked at reception several times. We received one bottle which arrived with a great deal of pomp and fuss. Maid refused to let me take it off her at the door but insisted on bringing it in with two wine glasses, a card from the Manager and a linen napkin neatly rolled.......

Don't be tempted to start munching on the snacks in your room, these are not free, look at the price list first!

Unfortunately we had bad weather whilst we were there, cold and very windy with rain on one day. There is no evening entertainment in the hotel which surprised us but it could be the time of year, the hotel was fairly empty.

Plenty of restaurants more or less outside the back entrance for an evening meal - just as well as it was pouring with rain one night!

The hotel phoned me the day before we left to re-check the flight details which surprised me as we'd already notified these by email. This is where some confusion arose. The four of us had planned to take a taxi from the airport but as we left departures, I suddenly saw someone holding a board with our names on it.........the others had not noticed it. The hotel said we had requested a car to pick us up which we had most definitely NOT! However, they were there so we went ahead - 50 euros for the four of us, with a bottle of water each, a copy of the Daily Mail and a little tray of sweets and chocolate in the car. On this basis we booked the car to take us back.

Now a tip. If you haven't flown from Faro before, allow lots of time!!! We arrived at the airport at 9am for a 10.30 flight and dashed on the plane at 10.25 after repeated calls over the tannoy for us., There was ONE desk open for all the Easy Jet flights and TWO security desks checking baggage. No time for a drink, no time for anything to eat (luckily we'd had breakfast) no time to look at the shops and no time to nip into the toilet! So be warned, they are SLOW SLOW SLOW!!!

Would we recommend this hotel? Yes if you like a quiet holiday. Vilamoura has nothing except the harbour (which is undoubtedly attractive though you can't get near the boats due to security gates) and once you've walked round there, that's it. A lot of shops were closed and a lot were empty.

Will we go back? No, it's too quiet.

Room Tip: We asked for a room with afternoon sun and got one overlooking the sea on the third floor.

This is our second stay at this hotel. It is a little bit of luxury. We only stayed 3 nights but it was fantastic even though the weather was not good. The hotel is so relaxing with many things to do especially the spa. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: We had an upgrade to floor 3. Floors 1 and 2 are what are called classic but still good rooms.

We stayed in Vilamoura last year at a different hotel and saw the Tivoli Marina whislt out walking the bay. We shopped around on the hotel booking sites and go a great deal on the hotel for a 1 week stay in February.
From the outsdie the place looks very impressive and imposing and this feel is carried on all through the hotel. The rooms are beautiful, well fitted out, clean and comfortable. The dressing gowns and slippers along with quality bathroom prodcuts make this feel like a 5 star place to stay. All the staff are excellent and the quality of service carries on through the whole of the hotel.
We only ate breakfast in the hotel as there are some excellent places in the Old Town we wanted to eat at but if that is the standard of food served I have to say the restaurant must be good.
One small area that did let the hotel down slightly was the pool and spa need a bit of TLC. The spa pool only had one set of jets working which given it is about 6 metres long did spoil the effect and the main indoor pool had quite a few tiles missing from it which made it look tatty.
These were minor things but stand out when everything else is so good.
We will be returning next year.... or maybe later this year if I can twist my other halfs hand a bit!

Room Tip: The view over the harbour is stunning night and day so try for a room with a view over it

Stayed here on a golfing break for 3 nights with a group of friends. on one side of the hotel the rooms face the sea and on the other, the marina - very impressive both sides. The location for the golf courses, bars and restaurants is perfect. Rooms are large and contempory and the maid service was very good. The bathrooms are also very beautifully equipped and very modern. Service in general was friendly, helpful and efficient. The bar area is spacious although the restaurant is quite pricy for 'good', but not 'very good' food. Breakfast was a little basic but more or less had everything you might need. Didn't use the spa. Will definitely use again.

Both the staff and the actual reception are most impressive, the pools are beautiful, room service impeccable and breakfast provision very good. Only real criticism is the mattress was a little lumpy and the pillows totally flat, but the linen was lovely

Room Tip: the seaview is excellent although a marina view wouldn't exactly be a hardship!

Visit was just as good as 1st one,our room was on 7th floor and sea views were to die for, absolutely stunning.Beds are very comfy and bedding is top quality, pillows gorgeous.
Turn down service every evening is a lovely touch.
Breakfast is superb-fresh fruits, yogurts, cold meats, cheeses, full English, cereals, omelette chef, breads, pastries, fresh juices and to top it all off bottles of champagne in an ice bucket from which you help yourself.
Will definitely be returning-cant wait.
Thanks for another wonderful stay.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view, either marina or full sea view, both stunning, but sunny side is sea side
