“Phew!”
Reviewed 15 August 2012

Just returned from a week in Vilamoura where we stayed in the Parque Mourabel Apts. The studio was spacious, clean and had a lovely view of the gardens . The drawbacks were that we couldn't get in our apartment till 4 o'clock on the day of arrival and there was no air con, only two fans which was unfortunate because the temperatures reached 40 degrees. Phew! The pool was better than we expected but it was very difficult to get a sun lounger. The bar's drink selection was limited but it wasn't a problem because Parky's bar was only a 5 minute walk away and was a good place to end the night as there was usually some kind of entertainment on (Elvis was quite good). The area around the apartments was clean and well looked after. Our biggest problem was transport. Both the beach and the Marina were about a 30 minute walk away, which is nothing to us as we walk in Derbyshire, but in that heat it nearly killed us. All i can say is thank goodness for the little choo choo that goes round and round the resort it was a God send and because the resort was so busy people were waiting sometimes up to 2 hours for taxis both day and night.
The train picked up at our apartment on the half hour, got to the beach in about 10 minutes. It took about 20 minutes to get to the marina. It went through the old village on the way home (which has a few bars and restaurants and is quite pretty) and finally back to the parque Mourabel, overall an hours journey. It was 2 euros a trip or if you paid 5 euros each you could go on it all day and night, the drivers were friendly as well.
We ate in the marina at a place called The Old Navy, the service and food were excellent and we thought it would cost a bomb but for what we had it worked out about the same as here. In the square behind, The O Colonial restaurant was another lovely place to eat. Drinks were quite reasonable everywhere especially if it was happy hour. Overall had a good time but don't think August is the best time for us.

just come back after a 10days we stayed in a superiour studio which was lovely cleaned everyday clean towels as well .air conditioning was great. it was nice and peaceful .only downfall was the long walk to the beach and marina which took about 20mins.the staff were ok but could have been more helpful patio outside light was not working reported it but was still not fixed time we left. they could do with more entertainment as there was nothing for kids. so if i had kids i certainly would not be going there.the food in the restuarant was ok .

We have just come back from two weeks in Parque Mourabel in Villamoura. We have 2 small kids so went for a 1 bedroom superior apartment. The apartment was really nice. Modern, spacious, really clean (cleaned daily) and had air-conditioning. I would definitely recommend the superior apartments though! The pool was small but quiet and landscaped nicely. Ideal for kids to sit & sleep under the shade of trees. It took about 20 mins to walk into the marina, which we did every night for dinner. The marina's fabulous! Lots of lovely restaurants with decking beside the marina. There's also a bus made up like a train for kids that'll bring you there for €5.50 one way....great fun for kids. The restaurant in Parque Mourabel was ok. The only downside was the lack of entertainment in the evening for kids.....very adult focused. But the staff were fantastic. Particularly at reception. Friendly, efficient & really helpful.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a superior room! No room service & fitness centre

This hotel consists of 3 blocks of apartments all separate to eachother but all on the same street, they are like 3 separate hotels. Parque Mourabel, Pe De Lago, Oasis Village. You can use all 3 hotels, Oasis Village has no facilities (pool/restaurant).
We upgraded our room to a 1 bed superior apt as i wanted proper beds and A/C. I think its the luck of the draw as i was expecting modern rooms from looking at the photos, we did not get this, we got old, dated and gruby!
We were in the Oasis Village and i think the nice rooms are in the Parque Mourabel. A lady staying in the Parque Mourabel said they were modern but small, again not spacious like the pictures show you! She did say that baby cots could not fit into the bedrooms of these apts though which is a big issue if you have a baby.
The Oasis Village is 2 storey and the ground floor apts dont have a balcony just a shared terrace with your neighbour which we didnt use as it wasnt very private. The windows have electric grills on them and it looks like a prison camp. Our bedroom window did not lock so we had the grills down all week and no sunlight coming in.
The bedroom was spacious and the twins beds were fine to sleep on. A/C was in the bedroom and living room and very powerful but a bit loud overnight. The bathroom was small and had the worst shower ive ever seen. It was like a rubber tube that attached to the main taps and had a small plastic head that was attached to the wall!
The kitchen/diner/living room was all one area and very small. I didnt cook anything other than toast in a morning as it was that old and gruby i didnt really want to use it.

The pool at Parque Mourabel was nice and had trees which created shade in places.
The pool bar serving snacks was a joke, didnt even do sandwiches. We only went once as we then discovered that at the end of the street was a supermarket and Parkys bar that did all day food.

Pe De Lago pool was nice and had a small childrens pool but no shade for babys.

The Marina is lovely. About a 20min walk through a lovely park in the central reservation. We walked there and back in the evening with our baby in the pram, very safe. Food and drink very reasonable in the restaurants on the marina and all baby friendly.

Room Tip: Request to be in the Parque Mourabel

Booked 3 nights in July 12. For budget apartments I was very impressed.
When we arrived at 1.30 pm the apartment was not ready - had to wait 2 hours. The reception staff were not helpful.
When the apartment was ready, we were taken to a different block 5 mind up the road - pe do lago. The apartment was spacious, clean and well equipped for a budget break.
The restaurant was good and very reasonably priced.
The shop on site was ok and stocked all basic stuff.
The apartments are quite a distance from the marina and centre - I would say 30-40 mins depending how fast you walk. But a taxi was only 4€ .
I would definatley return as offered excellent value for money - but if you want luxury, this is not the place for you!

This hotel is a great place for a relaxing and inexpensive holiday. It's located in a beautiful and very peaceful area. The apartments are neatly decorated and cleaned daily, we were very happy with that. The staff is very helpful and polite, we had a few special requests that the reception staff quickly and kindly helped us with. Also they were very helpful with providing information on the activities in and around Vilamoura, sightseeing spots, etc.

Overall we were very happy with the hotel, would return again.

The apartments are a treck from anywhere! Too far to walk in that heat but taxis are about 5 euros and there is a free bus from outside reception at 9am, 11am and 4pm. The same bus can pick you up by the beach at about 10 past 9, 11 and 4.

The room was absolutely disgusting. I refused to walk around bare foot in there because of the amount of black hairs i kept finding (I'm blonde). The cupboards were so old and creaky. We asked for a double bed but got two single, tiny beds instead. You don't get a quilt or anything decent to use as a cover, you get brown fleecy blankets that look like they haven't been washed for months. They had black hairs stuck to them too. Me and my partner ended up pushing the two sofas together and making them into our beds because they were a lot bigger.

Oh, and the window in the bedroom was broken and wouldn't shut.

I know some people say you get what you pay for, but I've paid around the same price most times I travel abroad and have stayed in MUCH better and cleaner places than this.
