“Nice, clean and basic..”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

Stayed here for two weeks just back and was in the pe do lago block. Our room was good, everything worked, cleaners were in everyday, basic but like most holiday apartments weve stayed in. Was very quiet area, never heard any noise at night time. No air conditioning which was downfall as it was 35 degrees and our room was like an oven!! Decent hotel for price u pay. 30min walk from marina, but the whole of vilamoura is a disaster of a place, u have to walk miles to get anywhere!!

Studio apartment - noisy location ( next to newly opened restaurant / bar). Fan in room broken, patio door did not lock properly however luckily top floor apartment, neighbours also noisy. Curtains hanging off rails. generally apartment appeared in need of refurbishing. Rooms cleaned each day , towels changed couple of times. Equipment clean but we did not cook in. We went to the marina every evening - about a 25 min walk - so not ideal if you don't like walking! Luckily we don't mind and survived the week by being at the complex really only to sleep - Felt apartments a little out of the way and the free bus was available but did nt run at really convenient times and was becoming too busy - only an 8 seater.

Having returned from vilamoura last week, my experience with this hotel I will not be going back. I found some of the staff quite rude, and miserable. There was no atmosphere what so ever within the hotel. The food was very basic breakfast was the same every morning (tinned fruit cocktail) come on! My accommodation smelt, was very shabby. I did ask to be moved, which they did do no problemns. The pool area was quite shabby tiles loose, and the area where you had a shower was dirty, no umbrellas provided around the pool area. In the advertising it states air conditioning (not in the rooms, fans are provided), shops around (there is a small supermarket from hotel), nearest town is 25-30 mins away, the marina. Entertainment was rubbish, telephone in room did not work, one socket in the kitchen and that was coming away from the wall. Weather was good though.

Booked through Travel Republic (€560 for seven nights for 2A/3C), had sent email to hotel after booking inquiring about late check-in and they emailed straight back so felt very happy. Had requested to be near a children's pool (as this hotel divided into three separate blocks).

We arrived after 10pm for check-in and check-in very efficient and asked to wait outside for the hotel bus to bring us down the road to Pe De Lago, as this was where the children's pool was. After few minutes the chap could be seen on the phone and then he came over and said mini-bus would be few minutes longer. sure Id said "we'd walk and we spotted the complex on the way in and only few minutes walk". He wouldn't hear of it. However after another five minutes I said 'we'd walk down, its no trouble', he said he'd drop the baggage down in the hotel car and my husband waited with the luggage and we took the lovely stroll down. We were shown to our door and explained everything. Excellent service.

The hotel offers a courtesy bus three times a day into Villamoura, 9am, 11am and 4pm and return at 11am and 4pm. Excellent. All drivers were on time and so pleasant. Boosters seats always got for my little ones. It is a lovely walk to Villamoura, took us about 1/2 hr with a double buggy but its a lovely stroll, beautiful gardens and outdoor gym areas.

There is a Thai restaurant on-site which also offers take-away and also the restaurant offers an A La Carte menu. We did get a take-away one night €12.50 for sweet and sour fried chicken with jasmine rice (dont expect thick Chinese style sauce). Good quantity and delicious. We ate twice in the restaurant off the A La Carte menu. They offer a "Tourist Menu" soup, main (salmon/pork), dessert, coffee and half bottle wine/beer/soft drink/water for €15. Children's menu €3.75 for main. Kids icecream desserts €2 and €4 but they can get icelollies/icecreams in the freezer in the bar for little as €1 each so much better value. Food lovely and excellent turnover of tables so food is fresh and hot. Staff lovely and as tables seemed higher than normal they have wooden high chairs for little ones which mine loved. Everything spotless and toilets excellent, very trendy nightclub style.

Nighttime entertainment needs abit of work, although crowd there every night. Karaoke lady/night was excellent involved children which was great. Blue chap and Elvis were lovely singers but whole night bit much, not for children so we left.

Hotel reception very helpful, we booked the hotel mini-bus to the Aquashow park, €20 return, excellent service and on time. They did our booking for our transfer for way home on the internet, free. Library of books available which I available of, thankfully. Our TV signal gave trouble on the Sunday afternoon and by the time i walked back to our apartment, the maintenance man was already driving in the gate.

(We used GreenBus/RestortHoppers and what a service, landed in Faro airport, immediately driver took us to our mini-bus/no other travelers and off we went/booster seats again. 5.10am we had booked to return, mini-bus on time and excellent driver.)

See separate review for Pe De Lago accommodation.

Room Tip: If you want to be near the children's pool ask for Pe De Lago as children's pool located the...

Although not the most expensive (though it wasn't cheap) what attracted us to this hotel were the comments in the advert "entertainment nearby if you wished" and the good reviews. I'll start with the good:- Clean; tidy; nice pool (at Parque Mourabel); nice food; lots of utensils in apartments (whether self catering or not inc.fridge); rooms cleaned every day; towels changed often; Ladies in restaurant very cheerful; supermarket at Laz Azur well stocked with lots of fresh fruit etc., and good weather.

Bad:- Decor in apartments very basic; things not working; no air conditioning (only portable fans); no buffet selection (have to pick from choice from limited menu although they will do something basic if you really don't like the choice); man behind bar miserable; "entertainment" awful; 3 pools located in 2 different complexes (they tell you on site it's Pe-De-Logo but they are in fact at Laz Azur); free shuttle to marina only seats about 8 people and only runs 3 times a day (9am, 11am and 4pm - should ideally run every half hour all day)).

Location:- very very poor. Marina 30 minutes walk away - not good when it's really hot; if you turn right at hotel, nothing except pools and supermarket across the road and bus stop to Albufeira on main road (which costs £32 return for 2 adults & 2 children and takes 20 mins!) If you turn left you pass a Tapas bar called Blange (prices seemed reasonable but very plush. Only time we went to try it, couldn't as private party going on); then you come to a very small bunch of shops and restaurants inc., Parkys (very good) with pool tables and live music inside. Other than those 5 or 6 shops etc., that is it.

We would go back to Villamoura but we would make sure we were located very near the Marina and not half hour walk away.

P.S. Aquashow worth a visit. Very good.

We returned from vilamoura last week.. Fantastic flights with Jet2. A little apprehensive as sharing an apartment with friends ... We've shared before but couldn't get confirmation as to if there were indeed two bedrooms or one bedroom and beds in the seating area.... On arrival we were taken to an apartment block up the street called pe de lago. We should not have doubted as the apartment was fantastic. Two large bedrooms, lots of storage space, large well appointed kitchen, comfortable seating area, dining space, balcony to room and bedroom but the icing on the cake was the second bedroom had a toilet but had to share the bathroom. The toilet had at some point been a wet room but the shower had been removed. There was a stale odour in there from the drains but not off putting. The beds had new mattresses however the pillows left a lot to be desired!!! We asked for more pillows and they were in the room before the day was out. The bar area down stairs had draught beer and whilst the menu was not extensive it was well cooked and well presented and a generous portion. They even had fire water!!! As this complex is part residential it was quiter than a lot of places ..... Other than during the day when all the local kids would congregate at the pool and play. It was very busy and I had to pick and choose my time to swim. There is a courtesy minibus (takes 8) to the marina at 9am 11 am and 4pm. He will come back if there are more than 8 waiting. There are also the trains which stop at the mourabel .... The blue one is best and the most reliable!!!! Its a really pleasant walk through the parque .... dont omit the sit ups!! The beach was lovely and swam in the sea albut one day. After the first day we refused to pay €20 for 2 beds and brolly so bought a couple of brollys and laid on the sand!!! There are little chairs which are available for purchase. We passed them on when we left!! The beach bars are really good serving luscious food but beer €4..... Cheaper in supermarket! We had a lovely week lovely food excellent company (as always) and bring on the next one..... Where to next I wonder x
