This hotel overlooks the beach & just a short distance away from the marina. The hotel is worthy of its 4 star, first impressions were pleasant and inviting. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel is popular with golf package holidays. Some people have complained about golfers and their clubs in reception, they are there in the morning and afternoon. But the golfers are all very friendly and more than happy to move the clubs if needed.
The rooms, bars & restaurant areas were all very clean. We would recommend this hotel.
We would recommend a restaurant called MAYFLOWER, the food and service is 1st class. The prices are a little more expensive than those set back off the marina but well worth it!
A taxi from the airport to resort costs roughly 35euros. You can book airport transfers in resort for 27euros!"

The location of this hotel overlooking a sandy beach just a short distance away from the marina with all the facilites made it an ideal place to stay for a week .Worthy of its 4 star classification first impressions were good and inviting,it seemed very popular with golf package holidays which became annoying having to wade your way through endless golf bags around the door not to mention early morning noise around/above you around 6am .The other thing that puzzled me was the tacky evening entertainment in the bar area of solo singers , bingo . dancers and karioke !!! 4 star hotels are not normally in to this in my travels ! Check in staff seemed to struggle with numbers which took nearly 30 minutes to get signed up .Apart from all this , the place and rooms were very clean with everything you wanted , we were on the 7th floor front facing which provided excellent views over the harbour entrance and beaches not to mention great sunsets which made up for any mis-giving
With everything you wanted for a holiday just a short walk from the hotel made this location a very good choice and would certainly return again .

I have been to Vilamoura several times but this was my first stay in this hotel. It is a very nice hotel in a fantastic location. The rooms and communal areas were all very clean and the buffet style breakfast was good. The only let down was that the staff were not the most helpful.

I really like this hotel and have booked to go back again.

We had been for a weakend in Vilagale ampallius. Hotel has excellent locacion, on the beach with direct acess to there, only 3 minutes walking to marina and with touristic train stop in front of the hotel. Pool are has sea and beach view.
Staf is very friendly, nice live music all nights, nice breakfast and dinner.
We stay in a senior suite with lovely view to beach, Vilamoura marina, casino and Quarteira. The senior suites are duplex, 2 rooms with ensuit bathroom in first floor, one of then with terrace, and living room with sofas, tv, terrace, table, kitchenet and another bathroom. Is an excellent choice for a 2 or more childreen family. Rooms are recently refurnisch and are vey good for a 4 stars.
Vilagale ampallius is a good choice if you want a nice 4 stars with excellent locacion and very spacious suites.

Hotel was nice and clean, the location for the villamoura marina and golf courses in the villamoura area was pretty good. Room was slightly small for a double room, but was clean and bright and serviced regularly.

Breakfast choice was good enough, local produce and fresh foods of which you could pack your own lunch, only real drawback was the coffee - for some reason they just couldn't make it!

Bar area was light and area, great choice of cocktails, drinks were a little bit pricey, if you are staying here ask for a discount card - sometimes they'll give you one - 15% off drinks will help.

Spa & leisure facilities were chargeable extras, having never seen that before we found it strange, but once you paid for a treatment access was included so it was easy to spend a couple of hours in there.

Storage and locked room area was easily accesible to front door for golf clubs and the likes. Would go back here at a busier period.

I inadvertently added this review to the wrong hotel and the only way to correct my error was to delete the original(Vila Gale Marina) and review the correct hotel again. My attention was drawn to my error by a fellow member, I am grateful, thank you. Its a pity that Trip Advisor does'nt have a simple ammend policy. Whatever, at least it will give me the opportunity to elaborate on the New Year Gala Dinner which, after all, was what the holiday was all about.
It was our 3rd hotel in our 3 hotel, 3 location Christmas and New Year holiday and by far the best. This was the icing on the cake. Our stay was 28th Dec/2nd Jan and covered the New Year Gala Dinner. The hotel was all we expected from the reviews and descriptions. On arrival our voucher was not recognised (we had booked through Travel Republic and this situation had happened to us before at another hotel at another time with Travel Republic. We had been informed by that hotel the fact we held a voucher meant the fault was that of the hotel or their agent). It was quickly sorted out by the efficient receptionist at Vila Gale. We had learned from reading reviews that the rooms on the Casino side were very noisy so we had requested a room away from the Casino on a high floor, on the premise 'the higher the room, the further you see' with a sea view. We ere allocated a room on the ninth floor, well away from the Casino and a sea view. We were very satisfied. The room was a decent size with large comfortable beds, a full bathroom with shower over bath, toilet and bidet, good mirror and lighting. It had laminate flooring, a small round table and 2 comfotable chairs. There was a small kitchenette with electric oven, 2 rings, fridge, utensils, cutlery and crockery. All rooms at the front, including ours, had large balconies with table and chairs. We were unfortunate inasmuch the horrendously wet weather and gale force winds prevented us from sitting there but the high room gave us spectacular views of the raging sea and crashing waves onto the beach. each morning after high tide the same group of men scoured the high tide line for what have been washed ashore. The area caters very much for the yachting and golfing fraternity and in the few windows we had to explore the marina and such found it to be very artificial but with the bars full and the sun shining it would have created a totally different atmosphere. Half a mile away is Quartera a small fishing town but a bit of a dump really and quite run down but the wholesale fish market was interesting and bustling. There was a public fish and separate fruit and veg market to explore and the beach looked nice. The rest is difficult to comment on other than it appeared drab and we were glad we were not staying there. That said the weather was wet and miserable and everywhere looks drab in these conditions. Due to the weather we spent quite a bit of time in the hotel bar which had a mix of comfortable soft furniture and difficult to get comfortable in wicker, club chairs. The waiters were very pleasant and efficient and the food and drinks on offer were not priced excessive. By the evening of 30th Dec. the hotel was filling up with Portugese and Spanish families and there seemed to be an overwhelming proportion of young children who, in their excitement were allowed to run around wildly and uncontrolled. It might have been a ploy by the parents to chase other guests away so they could take the seating. If it was, it worked. There was keyboard entertainment each evening which was pleasant and one night there was the weirdest dance troupe ever but very entertaining. The restaurant is nicely arranged, carousels down the centre and tables round the sides and across the back end. There was always a good varied selection of salads meats and fish and a different roast each evening carved by the chef, a good choice of vegetables and a sweet carousel which was irrisistable. My only critisism of food quality was the inability of the kitchen to fry eggs, they were either hard flipped or like jelly-yuck. My only general critisism was the old chestnut keeping hot things hot.. On the whole everything else was as you would expect it to be, wholesome, appertising and no choice lacking.
THE NEW YEAR GALA DINNER It was what we had come to this hotel for and it did not let us down. It was fantastic. We had spent New Year at the Vila Gale, Tavera 2007/8 and had an idea of what to expect and we were not disappointed. They had commandeered both the restaurant and the bar (2 large adjoining room) for the occasion. The restaurant using the everyday table and chairs, the bar fitted out with 6ft diameter tables seating 10 comfortably. We were given the choice of where we would sit and we chose the bar, I walked through to the restaurant room after the meal and it appeared claustrophobic??. Dinner was 19.30 for 20.00hrs, we congregated in the hotel reception for aperitifs and canapes and were shown to our allocated seat at 20.00hrs. Our table was a very cheerful lot 2 couples from Kent (us included) 1 couple from Scotland, 1 couple from Yorkshire and one couple from Holland. only the wife of the Duch couple attended as he had come down with nausia and was faced with a drive back to Holland next day, what a pity. We all intoduced ourselves and the party began. It was waiter service and we started with soup, served hot, then half lobster, then a good size fillet steak, just pink, sweet, lacquers and coffee. There was water on the table and our waiter was constantly filling our glasses with good quality re or white wine. He eventually placed 4 bottles on the table to help ourselves. There was live music in both rooms but at no stage did the sounds overlap. We were very satisfied with our music and enjoyed some dancing both during and after the meal. It too quickly approached midnight and our table was furnished with flutes and 5 bottles of champagne. After toasting and kissing in the New Year there was a fireworks display in the gardens. Everybody had a wonderful night and we called it quits at 02.45hrs though I believe it went on until dawn. Next morning breakfast went on until 10.00hrs and brunch continued until 15.00hrs with a lavish selection of foods, wine including more champagne. We met the couple from Yorkshire who said they had'nt had a wink of sleep as their room overlooked the casino and it had been very noisy every night. They had also booked using Travel Republic but had not entered their preferences. Your preferences are not guaranteed but the hotels do do what they ca can to oblige, usually. My wife want to revisit the Vila Gale Ampalius as soon as possible, hopefully in better weather conditions and so do I but my greatest reservations are Faro Airport. It is a nightmare, we queued up to 50 minutes to pass through Passport Control and then Security to return home. Gatwick, on arrival was not much better.

I have stayed in this hotel numerous times over the past 6-7 years. Its location for the beach is fantastic and is also a 1 minute walk to the casino. In the last year or 2 the 'Nikki Beach' resort has opened opposite it in the grounds of the Tivoli Hotel and the music is loud into the early hours of the morning. It doesn't bother me but the staff are always friendly and helpful if you wanted a room away for the noise. The hotel seems to cater for package holiday and golfing bookings primarily. The suite rooms have a fantastic balcony and are a good size, however on last visit the kitchenette was locked and not in use. I have only eaten breakfast here and it seems to a good standard and reasonable choice, if not somewhat busy. The spa is also worth a visit and is very relaxing except they did not enforce the rule of no children in the spa after 18:00 hrs.
