“Great for Families”
Reviewed 9 August 2010

We have just returned from a ten night stay with my wife and two kids. We stayed in the two bedroom appartments which are in a self contained block about a three minute drive from the main hotel. We stayed on a half board package which included breakfast and dinner in the main hotel.

There is a free shuttle bus available on the request which will take you anywhere in the resort as well as to the beach at Vilamoura.

The appartments are well equipped (dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, oven, fridge/freezer, all cutlery and utensils) and perfect for those with small children. There is a large lounge (with a TV with CBeebies and Sky Sports and DVD player) as well as a communal pool which the kids loved. The appartments were cleaned regularly (but not a weekends).

Food in the Green Pines restaurant was excellent with an exensive breakfast buffet and an evening buffet with a different theme each evening. The wine list was very reasonably priced for a 5* hotel (18 - 45 euro).

The only disappointing aspects was the kids club. Although the facility are extremely good the staff were a little too hands off leaving the kids either to watch TV or colour in pictures. Compared to other hotels we have stayed in the staff could have been a little more proactive.

Overall a great set up for those with young children.

We had a good time. Apartment was well furnished and big. Service was very good.
The shuttle bus to the hotel was handy but it would have been nice to be nearer the hotel amenities without having to call for a lift. (The drivers were all good guys).
It is an absolute MUST if you have golfing kids that they go to Richard and Hugo's golf academy 5pm Mon-Thurs. Ten Euro gets great tuition and fun. If your kids are going to play Vilasol, they MUST join as a junior member for 50 Euro. (better than 18 Euro each time).
All in all, good fun and a nice place. Just accept that it isn't going to be cheap and you are better going to the Marina for your grub.

My wife I have stayed a week in the Vila Sol Hotel in one of the Garden Rooms.
As a whole, the establishment is looking very tired and will require some significant money spending on the place if it is to live up to its 5 star rating.
The room we stayed in was very practical and had a lovely bathroom and wasn't too far away from the main hotel building itself.
The breakfast at the Hotel were excellent and we had dinner on our last evening in the hotel resturant and had a very enjoyable meal.
All the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
I was dissapointed in the pool area as the pool itself had small tiles missing and we never saw it got cleaned during the week we were there which I thought was a little strange as it would have benefited from a daily clean.

My wife, 22 month old daughter and I have just returned from the Vila Sol Hotel (resort). Firstly I must say that the hotel/resort was far from quiet as per previous reviews, however I would not find this a problem anyway as you would have all the amenities to yourself! The pools are really good and the indoor pool which we used a lot with our daughter was empty most of the time, which was great for us. The staff are very attentive and will do their best to meet your needs as we found out when we required a hire car for the day and everywhere was sold out. As a side note , make sure you book a hire car early as in the peak season they all sell out! and you need one for this area. Breakfasts in the green pines were excellent and had everything you would want for a hearty breakfast. All the waiters/waitresses are very friendly and like to make you feel welcome.
Our garden room was very clean and tidy and cleaned everyday, no problem sleeping in the huge bed. Overall an excellent holiday in an excellent resort and would highly recommend to family and friends. Do not take any notice of the reviews saying that it is too quiet , this would not spoil your holiday at the Vila sol.

My family stayed in the Vila Sol Village apartments. They were really well equipped with sky tv, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier and huge kitchen, lounge etc.
I agree with other reviews that the hotel and apartments had an empty feel about them as nowhere seemed very full, in the time we stayed there only seemed to be about 6 families in a block of over 40 apartments, so the pool area was never too busy.
We had a car which was very necessary as the walk up to the hotel was about 20 minutes and if you were shopping at the supermarket it was helpful to collect a load without lugging it up to the apartment.
Two of my family played golf and the golf course is lovely, expensive, but if you played after 4.30pm the fees were reduced to 45 euros. It is one of the nicest areas around the golf course.
Drinks as you would expect were expensive if you bought them at the pool bar.
All in all, a lovely holiday, super apartment but something was lacking with the empty feeling.

We stayed at Vila Sol for a week in July. We stayed in a garden suite, which was lovely and airy and close to the pool (through the front, and a beautiful garden view from our terrace). The hotel has a modern feel and is very well kept, although I do agree with other reviews when they say it is fairly quiet inside the hotel. We didn't mind that so much, makes for a relaxing break. We stayed with our two children (7 and 4 years). They had put up beds in the lounge and yet it didn't feel cramped at all and the bathroom is huge with great little extra's. The staff were always helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The pool area was clean and busy (but not mobbed). The days spent by the pool were great and quite often we would have a snack at the pool bar, although we were always fairly full after the fantastic breakfasts. Our children went to have a little play at the kids club, they would use it as a place to go and colour and watch a bit of telly away from the midday sun. They do advertise an impressive activity list but the activities never did run. The children didn't mind, it was never busy there, maybe four or five children in there, very relaxed and calm place. The clubhouse had great menu's. We hired a car which I say is a must if you stay here. We could nip to the Vila Sol Village (4 mins in the car) and pick things up from the shop or eat at Oscars which was nice. We could also take ourselves into Vilamoura (an easy drive), so a hire car is recommended. All in all a lovely place, a relaxing break and no would stay again.

We stayed here for 1 week in July, first impressions was that it isn't a 5* more a 4*. We stayed in a garden room which was lovely, pool area is way too busy for the amount of beds they supply, staff at the pool bar are the rudest I have ever come across - you either got ignored or snapped at.
The Reception staff however couldn't do enough for you - even taking us into the local town when we struggled to get taxis (which seems to be a problem)
The nearest shop is a good 50 minute round trip so take your trainers!!
Staff in the Clubhouse were very rude also, ignoring you most of the time, the golf course was beautiful though & well worth a game.
Unfortunately I wouldn't stay here again I would stay nearer the Marina as the £20 taxi fare got a bit much
