I must say I spent a long time reading the various reviews of the Four Seasons before deciding to go there or not, so felt it would only be fair to give something back! All in all it was a very positive experience from my point of view, and although some negatives I only mention them for completeness!!

We arrived quite early (10am) and were told our room would not be ready until 5pm. This took me by surprise a bit considering you have to be out on the day of departure by 10am. The lady at reception however asked me to check back in 30 mins when she would be able to give me a better update. That she did and the time was reviewed to be 2pm which was fine considering we were well settled by the pool.

I have split my review into a few categories:

Food:
We ate mainly from the snack menu in the hotel and the food was always good without being mind blowing. Well priced but the non-alcoholic drinks we felt were a bit overcharged with a Coke being 2.20 Euro.

We ate one night in the hotel – the Saturday night BBQ and were disappointed to be honest. This may well have been down to the fact there was bad weather so the BBQ was not fired up and instead things were cooked in the kitchen. It was passable but for the 18 euro cost we felt could have been better. In fairness our expectations may have been raised somewhat by the very good local restaurants we ate in.

Pools:
The 4 pools the Four Seasons hit the spot very well. There is a top pool which is the largest and quite deep meaning you do not get as many children in it and it is by far the quietest. The middle pool is what you would call a baby pool and then the bottom pool has a beach like walk in effect and is by far the busiest. The 4th pool was indoor and included a Jacuzzi – all in all plenty of variety.

The 4 pools provided great variety and comfort for any parents trying to keep an eye on eager children. There are plenty of features to keep everybody happy. We had read lots about people reserving sun beds and although I did see it happening some mornings it was never really an issue and there are signs which ask guests not to. I would say it was not a problem at all as we always got the same pitch every day

Accommodation:
We got a great deal on a 2 bed apartment and could not have been happier with it. The apartment itself was huge and we could have realistically fitted another family in there. They were well equipped and we had no complaints with the beds. The stand alone shower was large and powerful with 2 separate heads and the Jacuzzi bath proved a hit with the child.

We also had 2 fridges which proved great for keeping beer and water chilled. The air conditioning was instant and gladly received on the hot nights. The choice of TV channels in room was also excellent with a few kids channels and numerous sports channels to keep everyone happy. To be honest we spent as little time as possible in the apartment but this was more about wanting to be out and about.

We also had huge balcony space – and while I am sure this is not the case for all apartments we could have had about 40 guests out there I reckon!

Facilities:
Apart from the pools there was a gym (not used – we were on holiday!), air hockey, pool table, snooker table, squash, spa, hairdressers – in fact come to think of it we used none of these – but that is testament to the pool areas and kids club that we did not need this.

The kids club was great with a full programme on offer Monday – Friday. You could utilise it quite like a drop in centre where you could pick and choose what activities you wanted the child to do. There was a very good ratio of staff to children and they could not have been better in integrating English / non-English speaking children and in including everyone in the activities. The fact that it was free was a bonus as we would happily have paid for it given the few hours peace and quiet it afforded you!

The golf was also readily available in the course next door, Pinhall. You could literally walk out the back gate of the resort onto the course. They do a great offer of 43 Euro after 11am which includes buggy and rental clubs (I got Taylor Made R9’s) which is great value.

I would also check out Peter Lester who is the Golf Pro onsite at the Four Seasons – had a great offer of 60 Euro for a 90 min lesson and helped me make some tangible improvements to my game.

Staff:
All in all we were very pleased. We found 1 or 2 ladies on reception not very helpful at times almost expecting us to know everything. Maybe something simple like knowing if guests were first time visitors might have helped. However at other times we found most staff more than helpful to assist with bookings and ring various places for us.

The apartment was cleaned twice while we were there so we could not fault that as were actually not expecting it. And one day clothes were returned which had obviously blown from the balcony. Overall we felt the staff did the resort proud.

People:
There was a good mix of younger and older families and we must say everyone there was very friendly. People really made an effort to help each other’s kids mingle and there was a lovely ‘holiday’ atmosphere around the place. People were only too happy to share whatever toys etc their kids had discarded in the pool and it could not have been more relaxed.

Top tips:
Electricity – a few people have mentioned this and we made sure all our lights etc were out. We did however have to make good use of the air conditioning some nights and our cost for a 2 bedroom apartment for the week was 45 Euro – so make sure to keep things like that turned off.

Lilo – don’t bother buying one just use ones that are left as people roll off their weeks.

Kids club – make use of this for when you need some peace and quiet

Overall:
Although I would be in no rush to buy a timeshare I would highly recommend a week here. It is ideally located next to the old Village which has lots of bars and restaurants, 3 of which we ate in and could not fault. It is an easy walk to the Marina, and a train also runs hourly. A cab from the Marina was also only 4 Euro should you not wish to walk.

Room Tip: Watch out if you leave the aircon on all the time and do not have an all inclusive deal for electricity

We went to the 4 Seasons 13 years ago and it was still a great resort. The beds are a little on the hard side but other than that we had a lovely time. The management were so friendly and keen to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. It is in a great location in the old village and near enough to walk to the marina or catch the train. Thank you.
PS Portugal is very expensive to eat out.

We were apprehensive about coming here because of the emphasis on families - we should not have worried. It has a fantastic restaurant and the themed noghts are great. The Portuguese chef is incredibly friendly and best of all cooks like a dream - his dishes were truely memorable. Find out the nights that Brito is cooking - you are in for a treat!
The rooms were clean and well equiped. There was very little noise and they were extremely comfortable.
We will be back (as often as we can)

We returned to four seasons Vilamoura for a long weekend with the wives and girlfriends after a fantastic golfing stay the previous year. It did not disappoint! The accommodation and staff at the complex were first class and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were presented very well and very generous in their proportions and staff went above and beyond in helping us plan and enjoy a wonderful break. From offering choices of restaurants and making bookings for us. All in all both trips left us with very fond memories of the resort, and we're already planning our next jaunt
