“Spacious and smart accommodation, Very nice Hotel”
Reviewed 4 August 2012

Have just returned from this Hotel having stayed for 11 days in a 2 bed apartment, I must say that the Hotel and apartment were superb.
We had a 2 bedroomed, 2 bathroomed apartment overlooking the golf course. The apartment was very spacious and smart. A very well equipped kitchen, TV with many working English speaking channels. Comfortable and spacious living area.
The staff were all lovely and always eager to help. Swimming pools were fantastic, they were large and there were 3 outdoor (very cold) and 1 indoor (heated). My kids seemed to spend most of the time in the indoor one as it was a bit warmer. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times and it was very reasonable and the food was good.
The complex is very close to the Old Village and there are a few restaurants and a small supermarket there. We found it just a little too far from Vilamoura and the beach for us and would have preferred to have been a little closer. It took us 25 minutes to walk into Vilamoura and 35 minutes to the beach.
Unfortunately for 6 days of our stay they were cutting back the trees right next to our apartment within the golf course, so regularly we were hearing either a chainsaw or a wood chipper. I asked reception how long it was likely to go on for as the noise was quite annoying and was told it is something that has to be done 3 times a year. She couldn't give me any more information than that but she did say that they never normally get complaints so maybe it doesn't bother most people. This is by no means a reflection on the Hotel as this is something that is out of their control, but I think people should be aware as we found it very annoying at times during our stay and this is obviously an ongoing situation as it has to be done so regularly. We assumed that by choosing an apartment overlooking the golf course we had gone for the quieter option but would have probably been better off with one overlooking the swimming pool under the circumstances.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the swimming maybe quieter

We are pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay with us and are grateful that you posted a review.
Thank you for complimenting our staff, accommodation and food and for your understanding with regard to the tree trimming. We are very sorry for any disturbance it caused, but as you mentioned it is a necessary function and there is not really any 'good' time to carry it out.
We sincerely hope that you will visit us again and look forward to welcoming you back.

Just had a week here in a two bed apartment through a RCI swap. It is a lovely relaxed hotel with plenty of good facilities, close to great golf courses and a 15 minute walk to the centre of Vilamoura (and a short taxi ride back).
The apartments are very spacious and very well equipped - a good kitchen, a huge range of TV channels and plenty of space. The beds are pretty hard which may suit some people.
There is an indoor and outdoor pool with plenty of sunbeds (which is a welcome change from it's sister resort at Quinta). The bar area is good with a very good happy hour early evening - the restaurant does themed dining most nights which are ok but not too exciting - there are better places to eat locally and in Vilamoura.
A couple of minor niggles were that there was no welcome pack or refreshments in the room and we were late arrivals so we had no water or milk (they knew we were late arrivals so would have been to nice to have been asked) and the water dried up a couple of times during the week (due to an external problem) - one time was for 5 hours.
However, on the whole we had an excellent week in a lovely, relaxed resort and would definitely return.

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the resort and that you were happy with the facilities.
We are sorry that we did not employ the foresight to provide water or milk for your late arrival. Also, we apologise for the inconvenience caused by the water disruption, that was beyond our control.
Just for your information; you mentioned a resort at Quinta. We are not affiliated with any other resort or hotel and are not a member of the Four Seasons Resort brand, although we were once upon a time.
We sincerely hope that you will come back and visit us again.

Re previous report - Not wishing to take sides one way or the other here as at the end of the day it is down to personal opinion. However, with so many things going wrong and clearly upsetting you, did you at any stage approach the resort Manager and share your thoughts with him ? If not why not?

As I say not taking sides but I can only speak as I find and having now visited the resort twice a year for the past 5 years, I cannot speak highly enough of the whole setup but most important of all, the staff ! Other contributors would appear to feel the same way.

Yes ok some of the apartments are tired and in need of refurbishment, and maybe a reduced rental should be in operation, but a programme of updating is in place but does take time to complete.

If you were considering buying a timeshare, did you speak to the Sales office and share your concerns with them and tell them why you wouldn't be buying?

My last visit was the end of May/beginning of June and everything was once again 1st class.

Second visit for us as a married couple & teenage daughter after having a great room location and vist on our last visit, we love the "village location" and pools at the Four Seasons...plus the exceptionally roomy apartments.
This visit was quite different though! we arrived via Ryanair although it would have been more appropriate to have takem Michael J Foxes De Lorean...because upon entering our apartment it felt like we had gone back in time to a room that had not changed for many decades!(although a flatscreen TV did remind us we were the right side of 1980.
Still...we decided that although the apartmnt was extremely tired & dated it would not deter us from having a relaxing family vacation.
On reflection...the signs were there upon arrival...the front door paint was cracked in sveral areas & the door latch had missing screws...the rug in the living area was old and ripped with a hole in the middle the fridge door holder for milk and juices fell off emptying the contents of the shelf all over the floor!
Still we over looked this and headed straight down to the wonderful pools...my husband sat on on his sunbed and laid back to relax and within 5 minutes their was a loud crack and he was flat on his back after the sunbed support back had snapped due to age! this actually hurt my husbands side and he had muscle pain in his side for many days after (I noted that this happened to us last year as well and the elderley couple to our side said they also "had sunbeds collapse on them"
This was a frequent poolside occurance with a random loud crack and a guest flat on their back without warning, almost funny if it was'nt so embarrassing and painful!
So now after a few hours poolside we ventured back to our apartment to cool off and get ready for a meal out in the Village, we entered a hot, humid room, strange though because the air con was on! After speaking with reception we were told that they would send someone up, we decided to go poolside again to get fresh air! then back to the room to find the aircon just blowing more air, shame it was not cool air, so back onto reception who then told us the aircon needed gassing and maintenance would send someone who would get it sorted. end of day one! But still we laughted it off!
Day 2 and 3 were ok accept for the on going calls to reception and maintenance attempting to fix the aircon, they even told us not to keep it running for prolonged periods! We never have had this told us by Hilton,..so we assume they use better superior makes of aircon to the Four Seasons!!! anyhow maintenance evetually turned up with a little portable aircon unit for us...which we all sat around enjoying a small amount of releif from the sauna...sorry I meant room!
We chose to venture out onto our balcony only to have the large sliding fly screen fall off its rails onto my husbands foot...once again injuring him, worryingly we also saw a small child walk onto a fourth floor balcony and also have the sliding fly screen come off in her hands and the winds were very gusty and she was lucky the wind did not catch hold of the screen and lift her off the balcony, luckily she screemed for her mother who grabbed the door size screen from her just in time! (this is a very serious health and safety issue that the hotel needs to address imediately)
We spoke with many guests poolside because we considered a timeshare here and wondered if the other rooms where as dated?, a couple of owners said some renovation of baths and tiles had taken place but was rather shabby on the whole, one helpful gentleman informed me that this was a great place to holiday 15 years ago with the likes of George Best and co stayimg at the Four Seasons!...nice.... Personally I think it may not attract the stars in its present condition!

So we eventually got through the balance of our days and even had a letter dropped through our door telling us to be out of our room for 10am!!! we asked reception if we could stay until midday and was refused.
We paid for full days in our apartment and felt short changed to have to get out before even getting our breakfast!... this is completely wrong on so many levels! for €200/night room only, we did consider movng to the Hilton but knew it would ruin our holiday having to transfer hotels at this stage.
Anyhow onto checkout, we stood waiting for a good ten minutes for a very dour receptionist (with long dark curly hair and thick rimmed glasses( you know who you are) to even acknowledge us, upon which she snatched our keys from us, printed the bill and threw it on the desk and took our visa card, no please or thankyou or have you had a nice stay and no have a safe journey...just a cold rude stare! As a matter of fact we had arranged transfers to the airport with the hotel and they had screwed this up as well with it booked 3 hours later than we needed (good job we checked this prior to checking out) she even tutted at us as if it was our mistake!!

So now we are back home in 2012 and look back on this experience with mild contempt and feel we needed to get this off our chests, we certainly have dismissed the idea of investing in a timeshare at Four Seasons and will look elsewhere...in conclusion the rooms are in urgent need of refurbishment and sunbeds need to be replaced as well as the woman on reception! on a positive note a wonderful lady called Marina (we think) who served us in the restaurant is a true assett to the hotel with great customer facing skills and thoughful service...I suggest you promote her to Reception manager and give customers a more freindly face and service....The End

Thank you very much for taking, what must have been considerable time and effort, to write your review.
Without wishing to contradict you, I found it difficult to reconcile your review with our establishment.
Some of the issues that you raised are quite serious and should have been brought to the attention of management during your stay. We would have strived to rectify them, immediately.
With regard to the air conditioning; machines break down unexpectedly. When it is involving air conditioning coolant, repairs or replacement must be conducted by qualified technicians and unfortunately, we are at their mercy.
We are sorry that we could not meet your expectations and apologise for any inconvenience you experienced.

Once again Four Seasons Vilamoura have exceeded our expectations, from the moment you arrive you are treated to Five Star treatment from every Staff Member.
Facilities are excellent from the size and cleanliness of the Apartment to the Pools and availability of Sun loungers.
The only "slightly" negative comment are the ageing Kitchen appliances, but you don't go there to spend your Holiday in the Kitchen.
Overall a wonderful Holiday.

We were really looking forward to our annual trip to the Four Seasons and we were not disappointed. The great thing about returning to the same place is that you feel relaxed and at home from the minute you arrive. Familiar faces amongst the staff - who have all been there as long as we have been visiting which must be a good sign - and friends that we meet each year, all contribute to the enjoyment of returning to the same place. The gardens, pool and public areas continue to be clean and well maintained. The apartments also are cleaned to a high standard and the spacious layout makes this an excellent choice. You don't need a car as the marina is in easy walking distance and the taxis are reasonably priced. There is a tourist "train" that regularly runs up and down to the beach. We had a problem with our electricity and water heater but we only have praise for the management and maintainence crew who did their utmost to ensure our stay was not affected by this. We would highly recommend the Four Seasons and can't wait for next years visit. A huge thank you to the management and staff for making our stay so enjoyable.
