“Wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014 via mobile

Our stay at the Four Seasons could not have been better. The staff were extremely polite, from the reception to the bar and restaurant. We booked breakfast as an option which worked extremely well with the apartment style accommodation, which was excellent. Two large bedrooms, one ensuite, another shower room, large fully fitted kitchen and living room and a balcony large enough for dining and sun loungers with a lovely view over the gold course. Television with all sports channels too. There are four pools, one for toddlers and kids, a middle one, a top one which is deep and an indoor pool with jacuzzi. At the top pool there are outdoor settees and coffe tables and no kids running about. Plenty of sun loungers. Breakfast was a joy - lots of delicious fresh fruit and yogurt, cereals and of course, hot cooked foods. There is a guy cooking omelettes to your choice. The girls particularly liked the donuts and cake for breakfast. Wonder why? It was easy to buy things in the nearby mini market and make lunch at the apartment which had two fridges. The hotel runs themed dining nights and the Brazilian barbeque we tried was great. They have a happy hour each evening and the drinks were very cheap by UK standards. The Old Village nearby is in fact a condo development with a few restaurants but I guess built twenty odd years ago. As a result it has matured beautifully and is awash with colour from the various well chosen climbers and trees. The restaurants are nothing to shout about though. We found Trip Advisor reviews generally were very accurate. We walked down to Vilamoura in about 15-20 minutes and the taxi back was only 5 euro including tip. Again, trip advisor reviews were pretty accurate for the restaurants by the marina. Let's face it, they only want you once and next week is a different crowd. Land of the frozen chip. Pricy too. Star eats of the stay were Zu Yi Chinese, Vilamoura, Marufo 1 (suggested by the taxi driver, a roadside chicken shack but delicious, in Quarteira) and the hotel itself. This meal was as a result of confusion on our booking. They thought we were leaving a day early and, realising their error, had to move us to another apartment for our last night but offered us a meal in their a la carte restaurant as an apology. No big deal, we were going to have to pack anyway and go out for our last night's meal to celebrate my sons birthday. Thing is, the food was exquisite. Really good, a touch of fine dining, one of the best meals we had in Portugal, and when you compare the prices, about the same as the Old Village or the marina. I chose an expensive wine at 27 euro because I assumed it would be on my bill and because the food was on the house. Nope, it was all complimentary. All in all a very well handled situation by the management. Would I go back? Absolutely. Without hesitation. Thank you for a wonderful stay, your staff are a credit to you.

We decided last minute to try Portugal and the 4 Seasons was the highest ranked trip advisor hotel with a vacancy. First things first the 4 seasons has nothing to do with The Four Seasons chain, get that out of your mind straight away!

The hotel location just outside of Vilamoura is great, you could stay without a car as there are restaurants and a mini supermarket all within easy walking distance. The marina and the centre of Vilamoura must be a solid 25 minute walk. We had a car, as it really opens up places to visit all along the Algarve, our Golf Estate was only 30 euros a day through Atlas choice.

The hotel staff have been excellent. We had to move rooms after two days, quite an inconvenience really on 5 day break but a free meal in the restaurant and free wifi for the week more than made up for it!

We had room 29 a 1st floor 2bed apartment then moved to 32b exactly the same. The rooms are spacious with the all amenities you could want, the decor is definitely an 80s flashback especially the yellow taps in the bathroom, the fridges a little dated as well. But everything works, the apartments are spotlessly clean and we haven't come to the sun to stare at the bathroom fittings!

The resort was full when we stayed but did not find it noisy at any point. As others have said their is a lot of timeshare usage, there is also a separate charging scheme in the timeshare, they charge for electricity and for the maid service, this does not apply if you are not timeshare don't let other comments confuse you, or a price list left in your apartment.

The grounds of the hotel are immaculate and very well kept. The 3 pools are where everyone hangs out. All the sun loungers we more or less gone by 9am each day, German towel syndrome was rife! Staff did add sun loungers everywhere they could to try and accommodate however.

The 3 outdoor pools are an excellent size and all very cold at 23.9 degrees, comments about heating at least one of these pools make total sense but at least it's better than the Atlantic that is only 20 degrees at this time of year! The cold pool was over come by most but the first five minutes in where the worst. The resort also has an indoor pool at 29 degrees and jacuzzi that is warmer and my kids loved swimming in there.

The hotel is safe with very good security and the clientele are mainly well do Brits and Irish with a smattering of Portuguese, French and Germans. There are mainly families, some couples and there was one group of 6, 20 something guys, if anything they seemed a little out place as the atmosphere is not rowdy at all. Everyone kept themselves to themselves and peace reigned around the pool even with odd children shouting.

Prices around the pool are not excessive nor in the restaurant.

Overall I really couldn't fault the resort. A special mention to Suzanna who was working in the restaurant she went out of her way to get an unhappy eight year to smile again, really excellent service.

If I returned to the Algarve I'd have no problem staying here again!

We are a family of four and stayed for seven nights and had a thouroughly good time. The two bed appartment was enormous and spotlessly clean. The decor was a little old fashioned for our taste but that is being too picky. It contained everything including a washing machine and fully equipped kitchen. The landcaping, and pool area are lovely and clearly very well contained. The staff were all very friendly and eager to assist. The only drawback is the location, as it is a twenty minute walk to the Marine, but taxis are only €4or €5, so not too big a drawback. Overall a great base to have a great holiday.

The resort is located in a very beautiful and quite neighbourhood....Its really scenic and quite relaxing!!! Resort itself has very beautiful grounds...quite huge and lush green.Loved walking around the resort. It has multiple swimming pools for kids of every age as well as adults - outdoor as well as indoors. The rooms are really well maintained and modern. They are actually fully equipped apartments- quite ideal for longer stays...The staff is very helpful and pleasant. Only thing is not too many restaurants within the resort. But they have themed nights - International nights etc for dinner buffets which are quite interesting. They have loads of organised activities for kids as well well as play area for kids....keeps them busy. We would definitely visit this place again!!!

This resort hotel is set in a quiet part of Vilamoura very close to the golf course at Pinhal. Good, clean hotel but rooms are looking tired - torn upholstery in our room and kitchen cupboards / worktops in need of repair and refurbishment.
Clear that work is ongoing since we have visited for the last three years and seen the developments, but I get the feeling that slow and steady is the answer. Most of the apartments are timeshare accommodation and hence the pressure to upgrade for 'paying guests' is not a factor in quite the way that a busy hotel near to the Marina or beach would face.
The restaurant is OK and reasonable value for money. if in house 'usage' is anything to go by then breakfast is the best value of the week! Tends to offer theme evenings but these are sadly very much the same week after week, and frankly rather depressing since so people were present when we stayed. Bar meals / lunches are very good.
Having said all this staff work very hard and are extremely welcoming - nothing is too much trouble. Great that staff are by and large the same each season and hence get to know timeshare owners. Outside pools are superb, but very cold since unheated early in the season - plenty of sunbeds and cushions available. Similarly indoor spa excellent but hardly able to use for the number of children in the area from early morning. Claire & Peter Lester who run the Golf Academy based at the hotel are simply superb - nothing is too much trouble; I really recommend them to anyone on a golfing holiday and would be a very good reason for a return to the hotel.
Worth considering for a family holiday or quiet early / late season experience, but in my opinion very expensive unless staying outside High Season.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool areas will be noisy, particularly in busy periods. Try rooms / apartments...

Thank you for your recent review and rating.

I am sorry that you feel our improvements are going slowly and that themed evenings feel dispiriting.

Thank you for your kind words regarding our staff and I will pass on your compliments to Claire & Peter.

I hope on your return to Vilamoura we do better in our ‘school’ report.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the four seasons. We were overall really impressed with the facilities and would definitely return again. My husband, nearly 2 year old son and I, stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was very spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The little one loved the indoor and outdoor pools as well as the playground! We had a ground floor apartment facing the golf course which was perfect as we could make the most of the sun in the hours that he had a nap.
We ate in the hotel a few breakfasts and evening meals, all of which were good quality and value. The other nights we wandered round the old town which is quiet but there are a few friendly bars/restaurants. The marina is a pleasant walk away and we strolled there and back most days, it takes about 10 minutes. The train is a novelty ride but takes a lot longer so we only did it once! Both marina beach and falesia beach are worth a visit if you like being at the beach.
All in all, a good holiday and a relaxing break.

Room Tip: Ground floor facing the golf course is great for kids as there is grass area outside the terrace
