“Fantastic visit!”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

We didn't stay the night here but we did visit as a Hurtigruten excursion. It's amazing!! I loved it! We visited towards the end of April so it near the end of the season which meant the rooms weren't being booked anymore. This meant we could see all of the rooms. We were given lots of free time to just wander around and enjoy it. The different carvings in all of the rooms are brilliant. There are quite a few rooms! I would love to return sometime and stay here. The setting is fabulous too. We went inside to the permanent building and had drinks/ snacks upstairs- the view.. Wow!! It's stunning! There are husky kennels beside the hotel too and they allowed us to come in and see the dogs if you wanted too. A great experience, well worth doing.

Wow!! What an amazing experience! The food & service provided is excellent but the rooms.... AMAZING!!! They are definitely worth the trip alone. Each room has unique carvings & the attention to detail is just astonishing. I had no trouble falling asleep & the cold didn't bother me at all. This was a unique, once in a lifetime experience. It was made even better by watching an amazing display of the Northern Lights right over our heads! It doesn't get much better than that!!

From start to finish this was a once in a life time experience. The pick up at Hurtigruten pier was perfectly organized, the drive to the hotel with great stops to view the area and then the Snowhotel. Wow, wow, wow! Very very nice staff to make us feel welcome and the hotel itself ... wow, wow, wow! A masterpiece! The athmosphere was so amazing, the workmanship wonderful and the thoughtfulness that went into making this place special ... wow wow wow Each room was uniquely done and we had everything we needed to make our overnight stay the best possible. You have to do it ... you have to stay here ... it is amazing

Wow what a place, beautiful carvings in all the rooms. The shower and toilet block were clean and warm. The food in the restaurant was very good. My husband had no problem sleeping in our room and was asleep straight away, I however spend hours trying to get to sleep, but that's just me. We had already been out to the hotel in the morning when we did the dog sledding, which was brilliant.
As an adventure / experience I would definitely recommend it !!

OK it is expensive but for the money you get a unique experience. There are about 20 rooms - all decorated differently with snow sculptures set in the walls of each bedroom. Apart from the snow hotel itself, there is a separate 3 storey amenities/restaurant block. This housed showers, sauna, 24 hour warm room (with tea and coffee) as well as a restaurant. There is also separate tented shaped restaurant on site called the "Gabba".
The stay includes a 5 course progressive meal (unlike the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi where you pay separately for dinner). We had one course in the Gabba, followed by a drink and soup in the snow hotel itself, followed by 3 courses in the restaurant block. Very well done and an excellent meal. The amenities/restaurant block is a beautiful building inside - very cosy, with magnificent views across the nearby lake.
To make your stay more comfortable, warm clothing is provided (full thermal suit, socks, boots, mittens, balaclava, warm sleeping bag and sheet). You are encouraged to sleep wearing the balaclava - you can turn it sideways on your head to help block out the lights in the room which illuminate the sculptures which annoyingly stay on all night.
The staff are super friendly and extremely helpful.
We were planning a few drinks in the snow bar after dinner but got side-tracked by the northern lights - they kept us occupied well past midnight (the full thermal suits ensuring that you stayed warm). After such a late night, we slept very well in our snow room. A great one-off experience.

We stayed in the hotel for one night at the end of a Hurtigruten Cruise. Access to the rooms for those staying is only after dinner. There is a sauna and shower block, below the restaurant, adjacent to the ice hotel to service those staying but no individual lockers or space for the cases which are held in the entrance reception some distance away. This does cause problems as one is in transit from ship to airport and needs to pack appropriately.
During the day all the rooms are a tourist attraction - they are all decorated individually with ice carvings on the wall - very pretty with the coloured LED lights.
The evening meal is served in a very nice new restaurant block and it was a delicious meal. (The restaurant lounge area is also the get out area for those who cannot stand the cold in the ice hotel rooms).
The ice rooms are very attractive but there is no way of switching off the pretty LED lights and there are no reindeer mats on the floor to stand on when getting into the very warm sleeping bag.
There are no en-suite facilities of course, so budgeting liquid intake before settling in for the night has to be a top priority.

Room Tip: Pay very great attention when the sleeping bags are being described so you get one that suits you. I...

We visited the hotel after a husky safari. A true magnificent build. To think that this hotel is only there for a few months of the year before the snow melts. The rooms each have its own theme, from Marilyn Monro to a larger family room with the seven dwarfs as a theme. The hotel is not a multi-day stay, but rather a unique overnight experience.
