Our four-night stay was pleasant and of a good standard. Hosts Nick and Graham were friendly and obliging. They very kindly drove us to and from Winchester railway station on most days, when we needed to be out and about, and this additional free service was of immense assistance to us. The cooked English breakfasts were ample and tasty, always served with the offer of more tea or coffee, if we required it. The cereals and fruit juice were also in plentiful supply. On the day that we spent a few more hours at the guest house, complimentary drinks were offered frequently, along with a glass of wine in the evening. The garden was attractive and nicely maintained, even though the weather did not permit us to investigate it too thoroughly!
Nick and Graham's recommendation of the nearby Cart and Horses public house for an evening meal proved well founded, and our dinner there was excellent.
To sum up - great value for money in comfortable surroundings and with good service. Very much better than the more expensive but tired-looking hotels that we used later in our trip, which also provided inferior service.

Room tip: We occupied the double en-suite room on the first floor, which overlooked the delightful rear garden. Although a little small, the room was adequate, possibly apart from the low-level wardrobe / hanging space! 'Secret doors' in the panelling of the far wall also revealed the otherwise invisible shower-room and lavatory. The space inside was absolutely minimal, although the shower itself was a good size with fine facilities. The one really negative aspect was the hand-basin, which was so shallow and so small that rinsing my razor after shaving almost caused a 'tsunami'. However, once again the complimentary drinks and biscuits were plentiful. The powdered milk didn't work at all (for us), but I am sure that if we had asked we would have been provided with fresh milk in a jug. Small, but comfortable and adequate, with good facilities.
