“Very average! Disappointing in parts.”
Reviewed 20 May 2013 via mobile

We have just returned from a long weekend with my sons rugby team as it was an organised event by esf events. We did enjoy the weekend purely down the people we went with. If we had paid full price for the holiday instead of fundraising for the kids I would have wanted a partial refund. We all stayed in standard apartments half board. The food wasn't as bad as I was expecting so I would recommend paying for that as the prices of the food in the place is so expensive and not that good. I would certainly say avoid the pub on there the "sun n moon". Overpriced and naff! The accommodation was indeed standard however our room wasn't too bad compared to some friends we travelled with. As we did stay with another 10 families we did see other apartments. Some were riddled with ants, some were damp and our shower was hanging off the wall. I ended up taking the kids swimming to wash their hair in a warm proper shower. One apartment had their toilet leaking and ended up going through our other friends apartment underneath, so yes their kitchen floor was covered in toilet water! Overall I was a little disappointed with the accommodation for what the price was it was very tired! The swimming area was ok, but was far too busy and this weekend wasn't peak season. Plus it was very cold!! The funfair was a bit disappointing too, some rides you had to pay for. Stupidly one of the trampolines was £5 a go, then when the operator felt like it he put a sign on saying happy hour only £4!! I think overall the best thing about the whole place was the fact you can take your own beer into the main tent and gather with friends even though it was noisy it saved money as everything there is overpriced. I would never holiday there, once you've paid for crap accommodation then the petrol to get there plus food its probably cheaper to go abroad all inclusive on a good deal. We will go back next year for another rugby tournament with friends but would never holiday with just the family, we wouldn't enjoy it. Haven is certainly better. Just a tip, there is a tesco and morrisons round the corner so don't use the on site spa as of course it is so over priced!

Bad points
Standard accommodation
Cost of food

Good points
Able to drink own alcohol

Overall, if you can get it cheap, do it. But don't expect to be impressed the kids enjoy it but at the cost of amusements every night!

Just walked through the door after a four night break at Butlins Skegness and I need another week off to recover!!!! I have twins (boy and girl) and we celebrated there 3rd birthday whilst away, they had a fantastic holiday there was never a moment where there was nothing to do!!! Bob the builders yard was great for little ones with 4 very safe rides. The outdoor funfair was just as good and the kids were aloud to enjoy some adult rides if over 91cm and accompanied by an adult so me and the other half also got join in. The entertainment programme was great we saw lots of the kids favourite characters including mike the knight, Thomas the tank engine and fireman Sam! We didn't get to witness the evening entertainment as the kids were asleep long before worn out due to the days antics. I would 100% recommend butlins to any family!! We have even booked for the same time next year before we left!!! Thank you Butlins for a great holiday xxxx

Just got back from a Monday - Friday break.
We stopped in budget accomadation and budget is what u get...
On a plus side its nearer to the skyline, and you could see rides from bob the builder going round from our window so if your disabled n carnt walk far then there location is ideal...
Butlins is great for kids with all entertainment n caracter shows n photo oppertunities...
Please be aware though that just for a pic it £7.00 expensive.

Please also don't waste your money in the fish and chip shop next to spar in skyline..
£7.45 for fish chips a side n drink..
DISGUSTING..worsed fish and chips I have ever had. Maybe that why they were just us sat there..... Horid yuck..

Burger king
Better option but was £4.50 just for a burger. £6.50 for a meal

Spar shop do lovely sandwiches for £2.55 if u don't want to spend a lot..
Wished is have seen these before wasting my money on fish n chips. .

They were of course other places to eat but we didn't visit them so unfair to comment on these..

Sesame street
show was fantastic and had my grandaughter (aged 2) gripped all throughout show..
I did however que from 5.45 till 7.00 to ensure we got front row seats, by 7.00 the que was right outside, if your wanting good seats or seats at all you must be prepared to que a long time.. was worth the wait for us as my grandaughter loves sesame street and loved the show...

I used to go in 80s and how things are changed LOL.
Gone is the donkey derby.
(now £2.50 per donkey ride)
Glamourous granny.
Nobbly knee contest.
And ballroom dancing.

Still as much fun for kids though..

The outdoor pool has been replaced with fountains that kids can stand on that work to music for fifteen minutes then stop for 5 mins. This was great and kids loved it..
Whilst parents could lay on Sun loungers that were placed all round it.. weather permitting of course..
Indoor pool was great also.. with slides...

bad reviews of this place are ridiculous - its butlins! not centre parcs

cheap - basic accommodation and furnishings - we stayed on gold and it was not of a GOLD standard but its butlins! had dishwasher, tv, dvd, fridge, cooking facilties etc - so ideal really if you just want to eat and sleep - not a lot of space to spend evenings in - and a nucience if your upstairs with a pram - no lift!

we stayed at the football festival weekend - with other families and had an amzing weekend - very tiring with lots to do and lovely weather - we there for we able to make good use of the beach and out door facilities.

Fun fair good
soft plays dotted around for the toddlers - even my 8 year old enjoyed these

Redz was fab for the kids - we stayed in here from 8- 11 then went to bed
but it was still open for disco etc

swim pool fab with good slides and ideal for spectators to watch if you didn't want to go in - fab toddler pool.

spar supermarket vert reasonable

take your own drinks n snacks into reds nightclub to save the kids nagging! saved a fortune and nobody checked

I have 3 kids - 1, 8 and 12 - n they all loved it so much they were very sad to leave

we WILL be booking next year!

fab English hol - pray for sun!

Went to Skegness as part of the Festival of Football with our team of U14s. Was a little worried as I thought activities might be a little childish for my son, but he loved it! We stayed in silver room only, spotless with lots of tea and coffee, premium dining was fantastic such a choice and restaurant quality food. Sun and Moon pub very relaxing, had such a great time. I am not the sort who would go round nit-picking for flaky paint or bit of dirt on windowsills so I can honestly say i didnt notice anything like that, the site seemed clean and welcoming. Would definately go again with family this time :)

Room Tip: worth upgrading to premium dining

This is our second trip to Butlins in the last 12 months.
Due to being on a tight budget this time round we stayed in a self catering Gold apartment, we got a bargain!

We checked in via the drive through check in, which was quite handy as it was tipping it down, we we're able to park outside our apartment which was a nice surprise. There was plenty of spaces, we were always able to park if we popped out to Morrisons or to Skegness.

The apartment was clean on arrival - we didn't pay for ground floor but we kept the buggy in the car which was parked right outside so we didn't have to haul it up and down the stairs. The kitchen was very well quipped, the dishwasher was a lot better than my one at home! Housekeeping came by once a day and emptied the bin, made the beds etc.

We took food for the week with us but did use the Spar to top up, it is overpriced but for the convenience it was worth it.

Splash Waterworld has had a bit of a make over since we were last there in October, my two children (2yr & 3yrs) loved the baby slides and the kids pool. It seemed busy but not hectic, it was big enough to accommodate everyone. There are plenty of changed rooms and lockers - they could do with a few more showers though.

Bob the Builders Yard was a hit as usual, kids loved going on the rides without us.

The fun fair was great, they've added waltzers recently. Never had to queue for anything.

Arcades are always well stocked and the staff are helpful.

We loved the family shows. They do get very busy though. My almost 4 yr old was able to go and sit down on his own and come back for drink/crisps. The Storybook Panto was fab, the red coats were great, and hats off to them as they work so hard!

We are planning to go back again later in the year when it is not so busy. From past experience we would do the dining plan, mainly for the convenience. I would also stay in a silver apartment again as we wouldn't need a dishwasher.

Overall a great holiday had by all!
