First impressions of SSB were excellent. Very welcoming hosts who had gone to the trouble of getting me some unsweetened soya milk. The room we stayed in was furnished with some lovely reproduction furniture and you can see the style of rooms on their website. Downside was that we had not realised that none of the bedrooms had en suite facilities (our fault for not checking) so that there was one bathroom with a basin, toilet and bath, one separate shower room and another separate toilet with no basin. These facilities were shared amongst the 2 double bedrooms and one single on the first floor. We were fortunate that no one else was staying otherwise you would have to figure out a rota in the mornings with the other occupants about how to wash your hands after using the toilet if the bathroom was occupied. More worryingly for me however was that there were no smoke alarms either in the downstairs hallway or the upstairs landing or in our bedroom. In addition the only windows that opened in our bedroom were two small top windows for ventilation. In the event of a fire we would have no warning and no means of escape.

Have just had a lovely few days stay here on the Annan. Whether you're into fishing or just looking for a few days to explore the area I honestly don't think you will find better than this. Roger and Helen are excellent hosts, room was very spacious and supremely comfortable, lwhat a lovely bed, slept like a log, lovely guest lounge, every need catered for and bath robes provided. Did I mention the spa bath? A minor detail but then it's the small things that sometimes make the difference between average and exceptional. Breakfast is really something to look forward to and they offer an excellent evening menu which easily beats anything the local restaurants have to offer. Helen's cooking is simply superb. And I say that as someone who is not easily impressed. Roger is a fisherman of many years experience who is very well placed to advise on the local salmon fishing and gave us regular updates on the state of the river, all in all I just can't fault it and for the money this is fantastic value. Book it. Eat there. You will be so pleased you did.
