Echo Valley Ranch & Spa
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Jesmond
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 20 September 2010

Echo Valley Ranch and Spa is truly a hidden gem. The meals are gourmet, the spa is to die for (the best Thai massages I've EVER had and I've had many in Thailand!) and one can keep busy every second of the day with the variety of activities or just laze the day away. We did everything from a Thai stretch class to horse back riding, guided hiking, biking, hot tubing, getting massages and just wandering around the beautiful property. Nan and Norm are the perfect hosts, the staff is friendly and the border collies are the best! I would highly recommend a visit especially for those that need to truly get away.

Norm and Nan and the rest of the EVR family are a wonderful team. It seemed they all worked effortlessly to make our stay as relaxing and pleasant as possible. It was clear the other guests experienced the same hospitality and it was nice to get to know the others that where staying there as they where also enjoyable to be around.

The meals where delicious and full of flavour. There where lots of options to chose from and I really enjoyed the homestyle setting at dinner, reminded me of Grandma's meals on Sunday nights when I was younger.

The lodge is beautiful and the Baan Thai spa was unreal. I had never had a Thai Massage before but it ranked #1 to all the other massages I ever had.
I would defiantly recommend this hidden gem for any family reunion, wedding or romantic getaway with your Partner. It holds all the right elements for being the perfect vacation destination.

You need to understand what you are looking for. The accomodations are clean and comfortable but not deluxe. The food is served family style so you won't be getting menus and private tables (that said the food was excellent). The objective is to have a relaxing comfortable stay where you get to socialize with other guests and enjoy the outdoors along with fantastic Thai style spa treatments. They also have a very good fitness centre. The service is warm and friendly but the meals are at fixed times...you have to be prepared to deal with the fact that this place runs on a bit of a schedule that may not exactly be your schedule. If that sounds like something you would enjoy, this is the place for you.

I've been back to Echo Valley Ranch and Spa several times over the years, and every time has been an incredible experience. This place truly is special. The superb natural beauty of the surroundings is matched by the quality of the facilities, the food and the service. The owners and the staff welcome guests like family, and make every effort to make your stay as comfortable and nurturing as possible. This place is so peaceful and being here is so relaxing that it is hard to leave. My only solace is knowing that I will definitely be back again next summer for another fabulous vacation!!! Thanks Norm and Nan for another truly magnificent holiday!!!

We stayed at the ranch at the end of a wonderful trip through north western British Columbia, and this was to be our final stop and rest from driving. The ranch was quite nice but nothing special other than the 'conference centre' which was of Thai design and quite interesting. We were accommodated in a room separate from the ranch house. It had no safe and no locks on the door. It was poor accommodation and the door frame separated from the wall, the coffee maker had to be placed on the floor to work. There was no fridge or nice furniture and the room was small. The bathroom was poor with cheap supplies and it was similar to a 2** motel. The eating arrangements were ranchhouse style which we enjoyed, the food was very mediocre but lots of it. We had massages and fly fishing lessons, but they were heavy extras to our room cost and the total came to $2313.51 for two nights.

Please note that our rates are inclusive of accommodation, all meals, use of extensive ranch facilities and unguided activities. The extras referred to included two spa treatments (90 minute Luk Pra Kob treatments and 90 minute Royal Thai massage), two fly fishing excursions and two bottles of wine. The total cost of the optional “extras”, including 10% service charge and 12% HST, was $859.75.

This is our second stay at Echo Valley Ranch. It's a yearly retreat for my sister-in-law, her daughter, my daughter, myself and usually one or two more friends.

It is a wonderful combination of physical activity (horseback riding and hiking for our group) first-class Thai and European-style spa treatments, and just the opportunity to be together. Of course, the first-class food is a benefit too. The greens for salads are grown on the ranch and most of the food is local and organic.

My daughter and I ride horses competitively, while my sister-in-law is rather timid around horses. I have been to other dude ranches and other places where one may ride other people's horses on trail rides. I would rate Echo Valley's horses very highly as well-trained trail horses. The General Manager, Flint, and the Head Wrangler, Julie, are very skilled at matching the horse to the rider, and selecting the sorts of rides that will suit everyone in the party.

I have also had a lot of bodywork over the years. I give the spa services, especially the Thai-influnced massage treatments, very high marks. My daughter, who has sensitive skin, really appreciated the facial treatment she had.

I think this would make a great destination for a multi-generation family vacation, a family reunion, or even a wedding.

While we were there, two different couples stayed in the Honeymoon Cottage -- tucked down the hill with a romantic overlook of the canyon.

Great place, great people. All the cliches apply but in this case the experience lives up to them. Great for kids (this was during kids week).
