“Friendly Hospitality”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

We enjoyed this hotel tremendously. The location is great: not far from the village, and a few steps away from a nice beach, usually sparsely attended. The structure is simple, airy, and clean and, from the breakfast area, one enjoys a broad view of the sea, the coast, and the Peloponnese. The hotel is very quiet and relaxing. What makes it special, though, is the family that owns and operates it: always helpful, forthcoming, smiling, and friendly, without any obtrusiveness, and highly professional. We enjoyed our conversations with them (the two daughters speak perfect English) and they made our stay quite pleasurable. For instance, they helped us with car and flight reservations, lent us a beach umbrella, prepared breakfast with a smile although we often showed up much too late..., offered us the wine and "grappa" made by the father, and (a circumstance that, being Italian, we greatly appreciated!) prepared excellent espresso and cappuccino... The son even took time to tour us around by car when we scouted the island for a property to buy. (And one should not forget the very good home-made cakes made by the mother, which we tasted every morning!) We are very grateful to all of them for their hearty hospitality and for making this vacation memorable. We hope to return. Thank you!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing the sea.

The Aphrodite Pelagia is on the beach on the outskirts of Agia Pelagia, a small coastal village. The village - an easy walk away - has a nice beach with cafes and there is another
beach on the other side of the hotel, again a short walk. At the front of the hotel there are steps down to a small, secluded beach.
The hotel itself is simple but very well maintained and immaculately kept and the rooms likewise. Ours was a good size and had a large terrace also (sadly not with a sea view although these are available so book ahead). Simply furnished, it came with a roomy double bed (with typical rather hard mattress) and a large fridge (alas rather noisy during the night). The shower room was equipped with basic toiletries.
Breakfast was a choice of filter coffee or tea, orange juice and a choice of two of the following: bread with jam, cake, yoghurt, fruit salad. Again, simple but good. Jams were homemade and tasty.
So - a well kept, no frills hotel in an attractive location. At €80 per night it was fairly priced.
What sets this hotel apart, and the reason I give it 5 stars instead of the 4 I might otherwise have done, was the genuine warmth and helpfulness of the family who run it, especially the two daughters with whom we mostly interacted. They gave very helpful advice about Kithira and their two restaurant recommendations were spot on. For non-Greek speakers, it may be useful to know that the family's Australian background means that they speak English.
They are building more rooms at the back of the hotel in another building (there was no building work going on when we were there and the view was tidy) which are due for completion next April.

My husband, daughter and I stayed at the Pelagia Aphrodite hotel, Kythera for 4 nights early July this year as part of our trip to several Greek islands. The family, Jim, Helen and their daughters Tanya and Terese, who own the hotel were an absolute delight. They were genuine about their friendliness and treated us like family. Nothing was a problem for them. We loved the proximity to the beach, the serenity, the good food, some of which was home grown from their fields- all made the trip all the more personal, where we felt special.
Even though we travelled a long way (from Australia) I am sure we will go again to this hotel and hopefully take our little granddaughter. Maria Z

"Pelagia Aphrodite" is a charming no-frills hotel at a privileged location right on the beach. I have been staying there almost every summer for the last ten years. The rooms are spacious and very clean. I usually ask for a room with a direct sea view as I find the blue of the sea and the steady whispering of the waves below very soothing. The Chlambeas family who own and run the hotel are very honest and decent people and you can count on their word. I have often been treated to apricots, strawberries, figs and other seasonal fruit from the family orchard at breakfast. The hotel is within walking distance both from the town of Aghia Pelagia and from at least three beautiful and partly nudist beaches.

Room Tip: A new aisle is under construction and should offer modern accommodation of a very high standard when...

Where do I start, first of all the owners were amazing, nothing is a problem, from exploration advice to bookings and their figs for breakfast lunch and dinner. Facilities immaculate and the view from every room is 180 degrees of Mediterranean bliss.
I am a hardened traveller who's expectations were exceeded, hence the 5 star review.

Thank you Chambers Family for making my greek holiday

Having stayed on this Greek Island on many different occasions, and usually very disappointed by the accommodation I find myself in, I discovered this wonderful hotel right near the water. The friendly hosts, Jim and Helen and their capable daughter Tanya, could not do enough for us.The wonderful air-conditioned rooms, the enormous lift to take you there, the delicious breakfasts Helen provides, with freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh breads, and delicious jams were there every morning, the friendly atmosphere they provide are so memorable to me. The hotel has it's own stairs leading down to the water, where you can cool off at any time. I have yet to find another hotel on Kithira as good as this one. Staying there has always been the highlight of my trips to Greece, The hotel has a wonderful view of the ocean. This hotel, is great value for your Euro!

Room Tip: I found the rooms overlooking the sea the best!
