Warm, friendly and courteous staff welcomed us at the door; lively village pub atmosphere with friendly locals at the bar; comfortable rooms; tasty restaurant food (beware: BIG servings); perfect breakfast (not too big); great value for professional service. Graeme and Rosemary Martin, Oxford.

Thankyou very much for your wonderful review and your brilliant heading of 'Ignore Mr Dont Stay Here'. Unfortunately this gentleman had a bad experience under the previous owners and whenever Trip advisor have removed the comment he continuously re posts another with the same content. We do really appreciate that you have seen past this and thankyou for your kind words. I am so pleased you enjoyed all aspects of your stay and do hope that you will return soon.

My family get together was made successful at the George and Dragon by the atmosphere, the history and the fantastic food and service by the attractive staff. East Harling, Market Street is where my grand dad Mr George Least operated the bakery, now a house on the lower corner opposite the thatched roofed house. George passed away in 1950 and his wife Alice passed away in 1965. We met Geoge and Cedric for a meal at the George and Dragon, met for the first time. A great experience after travelling from Margate Tasmania Australia.

Thankyou very much for your wonderful review and my apologies it has taken so long to reply. Trip advisor have finally acknowledged that we do run the G&D and have given us the passwords etc... I do hope you are all keeping well and it was lovely to meet you when you visited back in June in your family venture. We do hope you will visit again soon and look forward to welcoming you on your return.

As i live almost next door to the George i didnt think i would need to stay there but having a lot of family over for party we booked a room. Very light and airy with a massive, comfy bed! Niice clean room with tea and coffee making. Breakfast was awesome - but we knew it would be as we have breakfast there on occasion.

Ate here with family during a holiday nearby with Forest Holidays at Thorpe Forest. We were told it was five minutes from the forest but perhaps that's by car! We walked and it took us two and a half hours to get there as the forest pathways are not marked, but it was a dry day and we had the whole day so it was all very pleasant.
The pub is beautifully decorated, the welcome was warm and the food delicious. I had the steak and ale pie. The portion was generous, there was not a lot of meat in the pie, but that suits me fine, the gravy was rich and dark and flavoursome and the pastry nice and thick on top. The chips were also good, dark and rustic.
After a good long lunch we had another pleasant two and a half hour walk back to the forest cabins. We all slept well that night!

I had a booking here for 5th November confirmed via Late Rooms. After a SEVEN HOUR DRIVE I turned up to find the place in darkness, closed and with a curt note in the window saying CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Despite knocking for about 15 minutes no one came. Here I was at six o'clock at night in a strange county, in the pouring rain, tired out and with nowhere to stay. After an anxious hour or so driving around I did find a bed for the night. BUT HOW UNPROFESSIONAL IS THAT. NOT EVEN A TEXT OR A PHONE CALL ALERTING ME TO THE SITUATION. DON'T TRY AND BOOK THIS PLACE.

I live in the village, and couldn't wait to try a lunchtime at the newly opened café. It was great, ordered exactly what I wanted, food came quickly and presented very nicely. Lovely end to my Christmas shopping trip in Norwich! Very helpful staff.
