Mobility problems for both my Mum and I, led to a drive around on Bank Holiday Monday.

One does not really appreciate the full extent of the forest, even getting lost on the car trail!!!

A very interesting visit - but be aware that if you do use the BBQ bins, one should make sure that your BBQ is fully OUT and not burning. At the time of our visit, it was, to say the least damp, but soon it will be tinder dry.

It is £5 for the forest trail.
Car parking is EXTRA if you stop outside the visitor centre.

Tea room is good value for money - large mug of tea = 85p

Visited Cwmcarn scenic drive on a beautiful clear day. £5 entry per car. You follow a one-way route up through the forest with numerous stopping points along the way. There is a play area at stop no.3 where the kids can play on a zip wire and a few other climbing/activity frames. Multiple points for BBQ's and picnics. There are also a few walks to higher look-out points which we didn't do with two small children. Overall a pleasant afternoon.

We recently camped here along with a group of friends and we all had a fantastic time.
The breakfasts were well cooked and all staff were friendly.
A nice place to walk or just chill out.

Visited on a day out in the area, and drove up to the Forest Drive. It cost us £5 for the car, which was good value for money. The forest drive is on the site of an old mine, and is 4 miles long. There are various stopping points along the way, and you get given a mini guide to follow as you drive round - impossible to get lost as there is only one road!!

Most of the stopping points are just lay - bys at the side of the road - I should imagine it can get quite chaotic on a busy day, but there was plenty of spaces on the day that we visited. The kiddies play area was being well used, but was let down big time by the appaling portaloos, overflowing and very smelly.

There were a couple of stops with some sculptures, which were interesting, but of course the main point of the drive is for the views, absoluteley breathtaking, and a different vista around each corner. There is a visitor centre with cafe at the start of the drive, but the car park was too full to park so we were unable to go in, which was a shame.

The down side (for us) was that there were no level walks that we could find, and some of the signed walks looked more suited to mountain goats!! We ended up walking our dog just of the car park!!

Well worth it for the views, but pick your day with care, a complete waste of £5 unles you have clear and sunny weather.
