Owner description: The Picts in stone - Meigle Museum has an impressive collection of Pictish carved sculpture, including cross slabs, recumbent gravestones, a hogback stone and rare architectural fragments. These demonstrate both the artistic vigour of Pictish society and the skill of its stonecarvers. The former schoolhouse housing the collection backs onto the graveyard where most of the stones were found. The present church at Meigle dates to around 1870, but there has probably been a church on this site for over a thousand years.

A really nice little museum packed with many complete Pictish Symbol Stones and many fragments of them - all found very near the present site, I believe. It's great to see these presented so well and kept safe from weathering in the Scottish elements. The guide Lynda M was very helpful and informative and is ever ready with an answer to any questions you care to come up with.

The little Historic Scotland run museum is one of the best places to see ancient Pictish stones and carvings and learn about their history. The small book self has some very good materials for those wanting to do more research. Great place to browse among the stones and marvel at their history. Be sure wander in the churchyard next door to the museum--it has some very fine carvings.

Under the care of Historic Scotland, the Meigle museum houses the largest single collection of carved Pictish stones in Scotland. The present manager, Lynda, is exceedingly knowledgeable about these stones (and most of the others in Scotland). If you want to become well-informed about the stones, Meigle is the place to go and Lynda is the person to see. Places like this are rare and, with budget problems, are in danger. Join Historic Scotland and help keep these places open and thriving.

This small museum has a great collection of Pictish stone carvings, kept inside out of the weather. We were fortunate to benefit from the extensive knowledge of guide Lynda, who is also studying for her PhD in a related field. A wonderful place to learn about Pictish symbols and styles.

Small, but perfectly formed, as they say! Has good selection and each stone is well explained, etc. For such a small place, it has a great selection.
