“menu choice”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

the food we had was good - but the menu choice was very limited and basic - we even asked if there was more. Otherwise nice place and good beer and there were plenty of locals in, which can be a rarity in these parts

The meals were supposed to have won an award in Feb 2013 but I think either the owners or the chef must have changed since then as the choice was café meals and then they were only average. I had haddock and chips (about six meals to choose from) and the batter was not cooked properly and it took three quarters of an hour to arrive. On the plus side it had an open fire and an old medieval door.

Room Tip: never stayed just had the meal.

We only visited for food but I can say I'm extremely glad we did. It was beautiful. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone. Staff we lovely even our little dog was made welcome in the bar ( dogs not aloud in restaurant but you can eat in the bar) I will be going back next time we are in the lakes. It is always better to book as it is extremely popular!
As we were leaving a band was setting up something I believe is a regular occurrence. However we were unable to stay and watch as we had a very worn out child after a day of walking.

What can I say - we returned for a second stay and it was just as good as last time - it's nice to be recognised as a returning guest. Again it was a "deal" so it was exceptionally good value and a great quiet location to see the southern lakes - the beer was pretty good as well not that influenced the decision to go back !

Thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend stay. It offered extremely good value for money - this isn't a 5 star spa hotel, but a cosy, welcoming pub with rooms! Our room was extremely comfortable, nicely decorated and had everything we needed. The food was also excellent, overseen by the very hospitable and professional owners. We are looking forward to out next stay.

The Inn is very attractive and the staff were helpful and friendly. Our room no 3 was on the small side but was nicely decorated and comfortable. The bathroom too was clean and modern. I had difficulty operating the temperature control on the shower, which was sensitive to the slightest movement and the water was scalding hot! I would advise running the water and testing the temperature before stepping into the the shower. Be cautious too when walking around the bed. It is a very attractive style, but I still have bad bruises on both knees from bumping into the hard wooden corner posts! Overall we enjoyed our stay but I must be honest that we were very disappointed with the food. Our deal included a two course meal on the first night. We are not fussy eaters but the meals we were served looked like they had been sitting since lunch time. We chose to eat out the following night. On arrival at breakfast a glass orange juice is already poured and on the table. There was a choice rice crispies or corn flakes, followed by a cooked breakfast of a fried egg, a sausage, a slice of bacon, beans and a piece of white toast and the usual choice of tea or coffee.

We stayed here for a long weekend and what can I say it was fantastic. The staff here are so friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was lovely, very clean and very comfortable. When it came to the food it was without a doubt the best place I have ever eaten, the mushroom starter was especially good. Thank you to all the staff for making it such a pleasant and relaxing weekend, especially Lesley who was fantastic, we will definitely be coming back to stay in the summer.
