The property supposedly has four and a half stars. And I believe that maybe at one time it was worthy of these stars but no longer is.
The positive point was the playroom for children and the staff member there. Also the dinners were good. (For the price of the place they should be!)
I don't know where I would begin. For our family we were first placed in an 2 story apt with an extremely steep staircase where the one toilet was on a different floor as the sleeping quarters. Not safe for small children. The next morning the showerhead was literally falling apart in our hands. We were then moved to 2 adjoining rooms-- which were like saunas the whole time. (My husband happened to have a thermometer with so we could see exactly what the temp was.) Even with the windows wide open in the cold weather it was still unbearably hot. we kept telling them and they kept saying they would have to check with the manager-- who could answer emails but could never deal with us personaly (and I did request a meeting.)
If you are a smoker then this hotel is a paradise, as smoking was allowed in the common area where coffee was served. Some office in that province charged with enforcing Austria's few smoking laws needs to check them out.
My keycard-- which I used to access my room with no problems whatsoever-- would not work for the pool/sauna area (not that I wanted to spend much time there-- dirty pool, broken tiles, outdoor thermal pool out of order!)-- and the staff insisted that it must be my fault-- until one woman grudgingly checked and lo and behold my key needed to be recoded-- and I got no apology for her rude statements. Note: Your guests are never wrong!
They have an in-house beauty parlor. In a week's stay there was no hair appointment available in the week before Easter (and while it is a heavy travel period the hotel was nowhere near full.) They told me the locals all book it up. If you are going to advertise this as one of the services in the hotel-- make sure it might actually be available for hotel guests. Within one week one haircut should be possible sometime in that timespan.
On the last day when my husband requesed fresh eggs-- a mainstay in Austrian hotels of 4 or more start-- they tried to charge him extra. It didn't end up on the bill-- they knew how angry we were at our experience there-- but it was just one more example of their pettiness.
By now I have forgotten a few of the smaller things-- but I did tell them at the time I was unhappy and I would be writing about my bad experience on Trip Advisor. If you must go to Schladming-- stay someplace else!
