“Won't be back”

We picked this house for its central location in Moville. It is also right beside the local play park, and accepts pets so we could bring our dog. The price per week seemed to be above average but otherwise it appeared to tick the boxes for us.

On arrival we were advised that there was no refuse bin. I am not sure if this is normal but for the relatively expensive price of this house, I was certainly not expecting to have to sneak around the park looking for a bin that I could shove a few bags of rubbish into.

We were invited to use condiments etc that were in the kitchen. I am not sure when the owners last looked at these but maybe they should, as nearly everything was out of date. There were for instance tea bags that had a use-by date in 2009.

Then we discovered that the plug-in devices in every room were not air fresheners but were anti rodent devices. Then we found droppings in the utility room. This made us feel very uncomfortable about the general levels of cleanliness and hygiene in the house. I appreciate that rodents can be an issue, but surely this could be resolved by using pest control services?

It was also surprising that wi-fi was not available. This might be a bit of a first world issue but these days most rental properties do offer wi-fi, especially in urban areas.

The surrounding area to the side of the house is very run-down. This is not the fault of the owners, but added to everything else it rounded off a rather negative feel about this property.

I don't like to provide negative reviews and it would be great to hear that the issues have been addressed. However we will not be back at this property.

“A little bit of a let down”

The biggest problem was the overpowering smell of damp. There were loads of plug in air fresheners but they did nothing to mask the smell. If the damp could be addressed it would make a huge difference. There is little to no silicone around the bath, this won't help with the damp problem. Unfortunately you can't get directly to the beach from the property, there is a gate but it's boarded up. The building is surrounded by abandoned plots, it's like been in a demolition site, obviously there is little the owners can do about the surrounding plots. Also a big disappointment was that there is no Wi FI, which is unacceptable when it is available in Moville. .
In its favour it's a lovely big house with great views, Moville is a lovely place to stay and the sea side path is super walk. The owners are really nice folk and do their best to make you feel welcome. The bedrooms are lovely and the bedding is clean and comfortable. Great telly and plenty videos to play. Large kitchen and comfy sofas.
If the damp and WiFi problem were to be addressed, I would be more inclined to recommend.

“Disappointed.”

I recently stayed here with three friends. It is a spacious house and it was lovely that we could all have our own room and bathroom. Kitchen/diner is spacious and well equipped and the lounge is warm and homely with wood burning effect fire (electric), 2 comfy sofas and large TV/DVD. But.....there were 3 issues that effected our enjoyment.
1) No wifi. (Our fault - we should have read the small print) One of my friends has her own business that she had to stay in touch with and we had assumed that being in town, we would have wifi.
2) The house smells strongly of damp. I know this is an issue with sea front houses that aren't continuously occupied and the owners are aware because there are electric air fresheners everywhere. But it did impact on our enjoyment of the house. Especially my bedroom (over looking the front door) -it is particularly strong near the bed.
3) The position of this house -at the moment is unfortunate. Yes it has fabulous views over Lough Foyle but between the house and the sea is a large and very busy car park. There are dogwalkers/runners etc here from first light and like carparks everywhere-as soon as it gets dark it attracts young people who play loud music and talk loudly until the early hours.
Also, on one side of the house is an empty and overgrown plot and on the other is a derelict building site-partially fenced off which the owners told us was a restaurant that burnt down. Its a shame because now the house is surrounded on 3 sides by neglected, rundown buildings with smashed windows and if you are out in the evening in Molville and walk back, its not pleasant or comfortable to walk through (especially as women). I do appreciate that there's not a lot the owners can do about this, but we all normally have our bedroom windows open but due to noise and slight unease, none of us felt comfortable enough to leave them open after dark. (Didn't help the smell either)
The owners are lovely people and were very accommodating. Moville itself is a nice town with heaps to do but these few issues put a bit of a damper on things.

My friend M Hale has booked this house for more years than I can remember. Annually he invites myself and two friends for golf the middle weekend of his fortnight in paradise.

Annually we leap at the chance. The property is magnificently appointed with every imaginable mod com. Town centre but so quiet!! 13 pubs within two minutes walk. Taxi for golf or whatever at silly low prices, handy for our annual comp at lovely Greencastle GC.

Michael says if he won the lottery he'd book here - and if booked up he'd buy the property.

And why not with its magnificent views over Lough Foyle.

We are so glad you enjoyed our coastal home. You have certainly highlighted the many positives particularly the great views over the sea that we never tire of. Sounds like you had a fun time and hope the golf was good!! Many thanks.

“Perfect In Every Way”

Stayed for 2 nights with work colleagues. We were warmly greeted by the owners on our arrival and the house turned out to be everything we had expected from the photos. The accommodation was excellent and the beds were really comfortable with the added touch of electric blankets which was appreciated in February. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. The views of Lough Foyle are beautiful and we found it hard to tear ourselves away from the lounge in the evenings. We had a beautiful meal in Rosatos and also enjoyed cooked breakfasts in Cosy Cottage. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely property overlooking Lough Foyle, in a fantastic location amenities right our your door step. The property has fantastic facilities and was spotlessly clean! Shops, bars and restaurants a 2 min walk, Rosato's highly recommended!! Property is situated right at the start of the shore walk which takes you right in to the fishing village of Greencastle. We had a lovely stay!
