My wife and I stayed two nights at Gasthof Hirschen in early June 2012. Gailingen is a very small German village located on the north side of the Rhine River a few miles east of Schaffhausen, Switzerland. A few miles further east is the scenic village of Stein am Rhine, Switzerland, a popular tourist destination. Gailingen is most easily reached from the Swiss village of Diessenhofen, south of the Rhine, and driving across a small wooden covered bridge. Gasthof Hirschen is located on the main road through town. Free parking is provided in a large lot at the rear of the hotel.
Our room, number 14, was a large room located at the rear of the hotel, behind the restaurant. It had a kingsize bed, desk and desk chair, and 2 armchairs located around a small table. Large closet and small, but nice, bath with shower. The included breakfast was served in a small room separate from the restaurant. It included a large assortment of cheeses, ham, and other meats; yogurt; jam; orange juice; coffee; tea; fresh fruit; and fresh rolls.
The hotel's restaurant is absolutely terrific--not to be missed--but closed on Wednesdays.
