We stayed here to break our journey to Whitby. The hotel is reasonably priced. Breakfast was fine and there was a good choice of evening meals. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable and had ensuite facilities. The decor was rather shabby and there was mould in the bathroom - not the fault of the cleaner - it was pretty ingrained. We mentioned it to one of the staff who told us that the place is due to be upgraded - and this is really what it needs.
The staff on the other hand were brilliant - very helpful and friendly, couldn't do enough for us!

Excellent venue - top quality food for the function and breakfast- exceptional staff that were friendly and very helpful from the enquiry and booking to end of the family function and our stay. Accommodation needs bit of TLC but housekeeping staff keep it very clean. This is our 4th stay here and 1st function and would reccommend the Red Lion for both. Thank you to all the staff and we look forward to our next visit :-).

Room Tip: Rooms 16 onwards are better better than the ground floor.

We arrived here on 17th August for a 2 night stay having driven up the M1 in a heavy storm. When we arrived it was a beautiful evening with a rainbow over the Hotel, must have been an omen! Lovely room on the 1st floor, clean and tidy with a very clean ensuite. We had a table booked as we planned to eat almost immediately having arrived about 8.15pm. The meal was lovely - the soup was delicious and the sizzling sweet chilli chicken from the specials board was just that - sizzling! We couldn't fault the meal or the service.
The hotel is in a great spot on the main road making local attractions and nearby towns easily accessable.
One of the most important points to mention are the staff at the hotel who were all very cheerful, kind and helpful. Special mention to Gabby who was very efficient and professional but equally friendly and approachable, and it was a pleasure to meet her.
The only minus point was the Wi-Fi which was a bit hit and miss in places but that didn't really have any bearing on our stay which we thoroughly enjoyed and we look forward to a return visit.

Stayed at this hotel with family and friends for a wedding in Sheffield there were 33 of us in total the hotel went out of there way to help us by the way of giving us Z beds for the children and not charging very little money, the rooms were a bit dated but very clean and tidy, the breakfasts are really good every thing you would expect, the only bad point was we ordered an evening meal but was very slow in coming i no there was a lot of us but some people had to wait for over an hour and a half i think the problem was it was a very warm night and people had come out for a meal so the bar and restaurant was full, saying all this once the meal arrived it was very nice. The hotel staff are very good and will help you out when they can. A big thanks to the receptionist who was great with every body .

Room Tip: Try for a room at the rear as the A57 runs outside the hotel and is busy till about 11 oclock at night, stair lift to reception which a good idea, Plenty of car-parking which is free.
