I visited Al Camietto for the second time in June of 2014, this time with my wife, two friends from California that travelled to Italy with us, along with my friend Giacomo and his family. Giacomo, who lives in Tortora, introduced us to Al Caminetto last year and we've made it a point to stop by every time we visit Calabria. Roseangela again outdid herself and prepared a fantastic meal for all of us! She also gave us a short demonstration of how she prepares fusilli and ravioli; you can read more about our experiences and see a video of Roseagela's pasta-making skills in my wife Chris's blog at http://www.chasinglabellavita.com/drop-everything-go-southern-italy-now/. With the fantastic food and superb service, we can't wait to visit Al Caminetto again during our next trip to Calabria!

My husband and I were lucky enough to visit Ristorante Al Caminetto with our friend who is from Tortora.
When we sat down we were treated like family immediately. Our friend introduced us to the owner and his wife. Apparently his wife does the cooking and she is a marvel!
We were treated to big plates of appetizers which included many of the traditional Calabrian specialties. I did not catch all of the names but there was a variety of some of the lightest and most delicately crafted appetizers I had ever tasted. I do know that one of them was asparagus tips fried in an impossibly light batter. I was completely addicted to them! I ate way too many!
Additionally there were platters of Calabrian cured sausages and meat which were fresh and delicious.
the main courses were home made pasta dishes including an amazing cheese ravioli made with the lightest and freshest ricotta imaginable.
The next dish was home made fusilli with wild boar in a light but rich tomato sauce. It was out of this world.
This restaurant is located in the beautiful village of Tortora in the hills in Southern Italy.
Most Americans never go South of Naples and they are missing out. If you take a trip to Southern Italy, make the trip to Tortora. It is a beautiful drive and the village is spectacular. The people there are warm and friendly and honestly we had one of the best experiences in our lives that day.
