“a visit to remember”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

the ruins are worth visiting and the view is amazing from up there. The atmosphere is catching and the birds of prey show is impressive. During the show you get all kinds of historical facts in a way that makes history come alive again....

“Nice castle, nice view and nice birdshow”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

It is worth visiting the castle, underground and climbing exploration, but be sure you are mobile and not too tired to climb and crawl. The birdshow is definately worth seeing once and the fireworks (twice a year) are amazing!

“Castle with a view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

Had a lot of places to explore, underground and up the towers. Very interesting. The falconry display was amazing, the best we have seen. They included the audience. The birds flew just above our heads. The view from the towers was really beautiful. A very interesting place to visit.

“Medieval castle in impressive condition”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

We visited the region and spent half a day in the castle of Bouillon, perched high above the so called town. The views on the surrounding hills and valleys is impressive. The castle itself is very well maintained and gives you an impression of how people lived in the different buildings. It is not so long ago that the fortress was in use. It has seen the first years of the Belgian state and played a role in the two wars of last century. Luckily, we were able to follow a presentation of falconry. A must for everyone who travels in the south of Belgium!

“Impressive...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013

This medieval castle was inherited by Godfred of Bouillon who sold it to
Otbert, Prince-bishop of Liege in order to finance an army of 40,000 knights for the First Crusade to free Jerusalem. The Price-bishops of Liege, owned the castle for next 600 years. Then the Louis XIV of France
took the castle after a 20 day siege. His famous military architect, Vauban, altered it greatly by creating more towers and fitting the castle for heavy artillery. This castle is considered as one of the most remarkable and best preserved vestiges of Belgium.
