We arrived at 14.20 but room was not (yet) ready as it should be while we specifically informed the hotel that we would be arriving at 14.00.... bad first impression..
We paid 120 Eur and got the smallest type room on the top floor.
It is very small, too small really for 2 people. Tiny bathroom. No air con. Very bad noise insulation.
The hotel looks nice downstairs but the rooms are a different matter. We did not like the beds nor the pillows. We hardly slept as a result.
Also note that most visitors of the hotel are in the above 70 age range, even during high season.
I realise Knokke is quite expensive but the room we got only justifies 90 Eur max and this because of the rather good breakfast.....

We loved our stay in this hotel. It is close to the seaside and to the center. The receptionist and the waiters are very nice and welcoming. The breakfast is excellent and dinner was very good. (32euro for a 4dish menu). You leave the car at the parking space and give your key to the hotel so they can move it if necessary. we had a room on the first floor and it was very nice with a balcony and a big bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. We will stay here again when we go to Knokke.

Room Tip: room on the first floor was very good (room number 9) with a balcony.

I’ve always wondered what who gives stars to a hotel and what the stars stand for. This weekend I wondered again.
Parking on parking place of the hotel is a problem. At arrival a very sleepy receptionist (it was 5 pm) said we could park in the street if we didn’t want to drop the car keys at the reception. (it was obliged.) He was much more sociable the days after.
Hotel is clean and seems modern but maybe they had a bad interior designer. Colors and items don’t mix. (a lot of shining copper, somewhat out of style these days).
Nice bar but when you arrive before 7 pm, it’s like you are invisible, no service..The terrace outside looked very cozy but it was too cold to enjoy it.
Room was clean but very small, we couldn’t pass each other at the bed end. Same for the bathroom. (Bathroom door was a folding one!). There was a room refrigerator which made a lot of noise. We turned it of the next night.
Nice beds. No carpeting on the floor (so no suffering from allergies). Heating, when turned on, is very good. Windows have a possibility to open. No airco in the room.
A (very nice) packed lunch was made on request for my husband because he had to leave at 5.45 in the morning.
Breakfast in the morning is abundant, very sufficient and compensates a lot.
Non-smiling but friendly waiters bring you coffee or thee and different - made eggs on demand.
We booked this room (booking.com) for a very reasonable price so in retrospective, we probably had our money’s worth. But being a 4* hotel, I had higher expectations.

Room Tip: On checking out, owner said that when we booked directly with the hotel, he could offer us a much ni...

The Hotel Alanta was an ok hotel. My wife and I spent one night in the hotel. Our room was a small room that could use some updating. The desk clerk when we checked in was very nice and made sure I had a place to park on the street. They also have a nice little bar at the hotel that was relaxing. We had breakfast at the hotel that was included in the room and it was very nice and they even made scrambled eggs for me.

This was a mixed experience. The hotel's location is central, the water front just some 100 meters away. But alas, the parking is affected by the location. Thus, your main parking possibility is on the streets in the area, forced to pay strict attention to the meter times not to get a parking ticket. That is, of course, if you are able to figure out how the new machines work, and are fluent in French. Don't expect the suit-wearing guy in the reception to help you out ("I don't work for the city, I work for the hotel").

Apart from that, this is a fairly modern and convenient hotel. The rooms are very nice, bathroom too. But being such a modern hotel, I was surprised there were no airconditiong of any kind, forcing us to leave the window open, exposing us to traffic noise and exhaust. Not good.

The cleaning too could have been better. As we moved the curtains to open the window, the dust was very visible, dancing away in the draft from the window.

We also found it a bit strange when we noticed that the cleaning lady walked about completely bare feeted…

The hotel has free Wi-Fi. A good thing it was free, because it only worked partly. Since we needed access to internet I contacted the reception guy again. Not that it helped much - "Do you think I am a computer expert?"

The breakfast was very nice. Lots of choices, eggs made on your request. Stiff nonsmiling waiters taking care of you.

All in all a very forgettable experience. Sure, you can have a stay, sleep in good beds and eat a good breakfast. But if you are looking for a place where you fell at home, which has charm, very people are smiling and cheerful, and you would love to come back, this is not the place for you.

If you book through a travel-agent website such as booking.com on a busy weekend, the hotel owner calls you to try and cancel the reservation or change it to its best interest. It is therefore very risky to book in this hotel in the light of the hotel owner behaviour. You may end up with a confirmed reservation which is denied for alleged technical errors while in fact the hotel owner proposes you by phone a few days before checking-in a different reservation at a different price without intermediary. Where is the technical error when you call two times the customer in advance to try and convince him to change the confirmed reservation? Better to avoid this hotel.
