We stayed here for 4 nights whilst moving house; using the hotel the bare minimum.
We did not appreciate the fact that the hotel was spread out over 4 blocks on the other side of the road from the original building until we arrived. The walk to breakfast, very pleasant in summer, must not be so on a rainy winter’s morning, even though it is not far (30m).
We were in block B, in hindsight I would have asked for another. The facilities in the large room were very good, they can be used as apartments: 2 burner hob, fridge, kettle, coffee maker, sink, 2 decent chairs, a chesterfield sofa; and a good-sized double bed. The shower room had a good and large shower, a whirlpool bath and a sauna. Upon entering the room my husband put a finger through the dust on the alarm clock, otherwise it was relatively clean. Fast internet access was available by cable. One had free access to the town’s swimming pool and there was access to a fitness centre. There was free private parking.
We had 4 nights’ disturbed sleep – Friday night the revellers were out until 02.00, Saturday night they were out all night –we were awake from 02.00 to 04.00 with constant shouting and talking. On Sunday we thought, “Work tomorrow so a quiet night’s sleep” WRONG – it turned out that the road block B faces, called Dumpen, is the access to St Mathias Centeret (the biggest shopping precinct in Viborg), and delivery lorries began arriving from 05.00 for the next two mornings…much noise from engines and reversing beepers. As it was so hot, block B being south facing, we had to keep the windows open, if air conditioning had been available we should have been able to shut out some of the noise.
Breakfast did not live up to expectations. The first day we arrived at 08.00 (breakfast being from 07.00 to 11.00) to find that no hot food at all. The choice of bread, meats and cheese was okay. Two good things about breakfast – a kettle to boil water for tea bags, and a toaster to make your own. The waiter on duty seemed to amble round whilst actually doing nothing; one of the jams was empty and he stood looking at it, without doing anything, another time he shook the crumbs off the cloth napkin (designed for folks to use whilst cutting to prevent accidental contact with the bread), then promptly laid the bread loaf back on top of them all again.
I ate honey each morning, the sachets had obviously been there a while as the honey had solidified into one end. The stem vases were devoid of water on the second morning, and the chairs were sturdy but needed re-upholstering. One had the impression that the hotel staff felt that they did not have to try too hard; there is only one other hotel in Viborg, the Golf near the lake – also a Best Western.
