“Lovely restaurant to viset”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

We took a day tour to see this lovely flower city, and Bormes-les-Mimosas are really a charming lovely old city.
When we saw the restaurant Belle Vue from the road we simply had to go there, as it is placing was so lovely with the view. Acutely we went there two times, for lunch, and after a nice walk in the old city, for a coffee. Staff was charming funny and nice. The food we got was just normal, nothing special. The restaurant indoor was really charming too.

We booked the hotel after reading a good review in the rough guide. Upon arrival we were happy. Room was ok - shower smelt mouldy but wasnt and toilet definately was getting the food fumes from the kitchen below. But all else was good for the rate of 54 euros per night. We ate in the restaurant first night. Friendly staff. But when the food came, both of our dishes were luke warm. I had paid 22 euros for my chicken dish and you could tell it had been pre cooked - disappointing as would have waited patiently. My friends fish was only just cooked - al dente stlye cooking is typical of the region but hers was also cold. Free car parking nearby at the church and amazing views. Visited santa coupo gourmet festival in the town on sat - was lovely! All of bormes is gorgeous - little alleyways and covert restaurants under vines etc. Very romantic. Take a cardi/light jacket /wrap for night as it was chilli being on top of the hill. Spent a nice weekend touring the coast. Nearby beach of St Claire is the best. Weather was touch and go but still mostly sunny in late Sept. Last day we came back from the beach and found a large set of hotel room keys hanging in our room door - all the room keys were on it. We were gobsmacked as the hotel side door was never locked during our stay either. Management seemed a bit amused when we handed them over. Its not the sort of area you would expect crime - but nevertheless, our passports were in there and we were not impressed as no apology was given - just a thanks. Im not sure if they didnt comprehend what had happened or if they were too relaxed about it. Anyway, Id go back but maybe stay else where for a bit of variety.

Room Tip: take a cardigan/wrap/jacket for evenings - gets chilli on the hill

I didnt stay here because it's on the busy main road into the town, car noise in summer would be bad but the views are unsurpassed and location is right in old town. BUT, the restaurant is outstanding. Best service and choice on menu and quality of cooking is superb. Always busy from breakfast to dinnner. Choice of sitting inside or out with views down to the see. Great place too during the day for coffee and cake. Best normal (not pretentious and exclusively for older couples) in town. You must go. Lots of free parking nearby in car parks (>500 places at 3 different ones)

Room Tip: Come here for food

Well worth considering if you're looking for a convenient 2 star hotel. The attached restaurant and bar means everything is close at hand.

If you are looking for something fancy or stylish, the Bellevue (sometimes spelled Belle-vue, or even as two words) is not what you are looking for. It is an old fashioned, small, traditional, two star hotel.

That said, the rooms have been modernised, and are pleasant, and the bathrooms are nice, and the place is clean. There is air conditioning, and it does work very well.

The Hotel is centrally located in the old village of Bormes, and its location is probably the best thing about it. The other good thing is the view - at least from the rooms on the sea (south) side of the hotel. (If you get a choice, go for one of these. I can't really see any reason why anyone would choose one of the rooms on the north side facing the square.)

We stayed 4 nights in October 2006 and paid 55 Euros per night for room 7. This room has a balcony (a definite plus) and a sea view, partly interupted by a palm tree. Its main oddity is that in the bathroom of room 7 you can hear everything in room 6 (and, I imagine, vice versa). In general, the hotel was not noisy, despite its central location, though if the windows are open (eg in fine weather) one can hear much that is said from neighbouring rooms and balconies.

Main drawback? While there is plenty of hot water in the morning, we found that in the evening, the water might be tepid.

The Bellevue's restaurant is very popular. The quality of the food is mixed.

Would I stay again? Well, it might not be my first choice, but I'd be happy enough going back.

  • Liked — location, view, value
  • Disliked — unreliability of hot water supply in the evening
  • Tips/Secrets — room 5 probably has the best view
