I flew into Milan Malpense airport with plans to take the train north into Switzerland. Instead of taking the bus into hectic, expensive Milan I took Alibus (reservation required, 11 euro) from the airport north to the Lake Maggiore area. Belgirate is a small town on the lakeshore, just before the resort town of Stresa.
My host, Liliana, met me at the bus stop and she carried my one bag the 5 minute walk (many stairs) to her Petit Palais. My suite was on the second floor, and included a large, airy bedroom with a view of the lake, and also a large sitting room.
The furnishings were basic, and clean and comfortable. The bathroom and shower are very small, and clean and efficient.
Liliana is kind and warm hostess and she speaks English very proficiently. In the morning, she prepared the best cappuccino I've had in Europe. She accompanied me on the train to to Stresa, where she gave me a short tour of this town.
I would stay again at Petit Palais Belgirate if I ever come again to Lake Maggiore.
nice friendly host always here to help and recommend you
if i could, i would go again now
The house is very clean, with a great view of the lake. There is a local market where you can buy some fresh food. If you enjoy sailing like I do , there is an hire boat just 5 min. walking from the house . . WE have been to some restourants and pizzas places , the prices are moderated but you better ask advise to the house owner to get the best deal . . We had 5 great days, and I would deffinelly be back .
