Owner description: The world's most beautiful train journey. The train journey shows some of Norway's best landscape. In the course of approximately 2 hours, you'll experience lush fjord landscapes, steep mountains, spectacular waterfalls and snow-covered mountains. A journey you'll never forget.

This is a definitely a must do activity if you're in Voss. Taking you on a 2 hour ride to Flam from Voss, you will be awestruck by the natural beauty of the Norwegian mountainside.
There is also a stopover at a waterfall, make sure you have a raincoat as you will be sprayed. The surprise at this stop is that a lady comes out to dance with music playing in the background. We had great weather when we went. So it was fantastic. It is definitely something worth experiencing and is highly recommended.

Admittedly the weather was not kind as raining so our impression was diminished. Best to pre buy the tickets and organise your own group of 10 to get it cheaper. Best wait for a fine day to get a better appreciation as you mainly do it for the views.

The Flam Railway is the only thing to do in Flam besides shop and go to the Aegir Brewery. We booked the trip on line and had to put a group of at least 10 together. We did this on Cruise Critic. The company was excellent and responded to all my emails promptly. You made your reservation with no deposit but only 1 person could pay for the group. This gave you seats on the train but not assigned ones.We sat on the right side of the train and went to Myrdal and back. Unfortunately, the day was rainy so it wasn't the most scenic trip. Interesting but not great if you live near the mountains.

Flam was one of our ports of call during our 14 day Norwegian fjord cruise. Advance rail tickets were sold out months before we arrived so I missed out buying them early. Yes there was a mad dash off the cruise ship to the ticket office. Some people, including me, ran part of the way. We secured our 4 tickets for the 11:45 train up to Myrdal after the first two departure times sold out. There were about 40 people in front of us in the ticket line. Ticket cost was 63 krone per person. The rail ticket agent told us they do not oversell tickets on these trains so that everyone who purchases a ticket will have a seat to sit in (no standing room only as mentioned in my research).

You are guaranteed a return trip on the exact same train you booked going up. So if you plan on walking back part of the way and catching another train from another city other than Myrdal you may end of standing up if the train seats are full. However, even our train left with some seats available, not sure why.

The trip is an hour each way. On the day we rode the train it was rainy, which may have tempered my experience. The train ride was pleasant, comfortable, with some beautiful valley and waterfall views. When comparing this train ride with those from our visits to other countries I have to rate it as good but not exceptional. Not sure I would ride the train again for the money spent and energy expended getting a ticket (note: purchase your tickets in advance if possible).

The tour was fascinating, included the boat trip to Bergen, this was a great way to see the variation in Norway. We saw wild mountains and steep valls, with roads and railways. We saw an amazing view of the famous fjords.
This was great
