While traveling and at the last minute I made arrangements via internet for this hotel. Not knowing what to expect, at the Flam boat dock we exited the catamaran from Balestrand and walking up the pathway toward the hotel - what a view. The hotel is right there where everything happens. We arrived just a little after noon time and arriving at the desk we were checked in & given our key to a room in the historic section. Within an hour we were settled in.
All of the staff is so friendly, and enjoyed talking to the bartender, Andre, that evening. The meals were excellent. At night we opted for a reservation for a sitdown dinner and although it was expensive, it was very much worth the value. Flam and the Fretheim Hotel was definitely two of the highlights of our trip.

Well worth staying the night if doing the Flam train as the town empties and you can do a pleasant walk ( info sheets available from rail museum). We managed to have the most expensive meal of our lives, but you don't come to any Scandinavian country for cheap alcohol and we did say yes to everything offered.
It is located straight across from the station.

The hotel is OK, clean, the staff is polite. Breakfast was not bad, but it was the only hotel we stayed during our trip that did not offer smoked salmon. In addition, juice machines were set up to disperse part juice, part water- never seen that before done in a open by hotels:) The check in time is 4 pm and they do make ppl wait!

Room Tip: If you come to Flam after 1 pm, ask to check if your room is available before 4 pm I bet it will be in most cases.

A beautiful hotel in a superb setting. Stunning! I was in the ground floor in a HUGE suite comprising lounge room, bedroom and bathroom with doors opening on to a picturesque garden. Looking directly at the rail station and the dock, literally a stone's throw away. Don't do it in a day trip - stay the night in Flam. Comfortable room, helpful staff and good breakfast

We arrived with a party of four & of course there had been a mishap with the travel agency but the staff was so very accommodating! "No problem, we'll take care of it,". And they certainly did.

The hotel is peaceful, welcoming and very we'll preserved. It's "old" but all amenities are modern. The buffet breakfast & dinner were both wonderful. Fresh, local food done simply with a wide selection. Something for everyone.

And if there's a more beautiful place than Flam, I've certainly not found it.
