From the moment we arrived to the time we left this holiday was a fantastic experience. Gerard and Wilma made our stay in this beautiful region a pleasure. We would look forward to breakfast everyday to chat with them and the other guests and to marvel at this idyllic setting from the verandah while tucking the array of homemade jams.
The region is steeped in history and there are many places of interest to visit. The Convento de Cristo, Conimbraga and Alcobaca are just a few.
If it's crowds you are looking for don't go to this region because you will not find them. The roads are unbelievably quiet and there are none better anywhere we have visited in Europe or beyond. I likened Central Portuguese main roads to a Grand Prix circuit without the cars. The smaller roads through the wooded hills can be a bit of a challenge if you do not have a satnav but after a couple of days we found our bearings and it was not a problem.
We drove to coast one day and that was busier in the town of Nazare but we drove up the coast a found many quieter places with almost empty beaches. The coastline is truly amazing, dramatic and should be visited during a stay at the casa.
My wife and I loved this area and it felt sad to leave. Day by day we were getting more and more attached to Portugal and it's extremely polite and helpful people.
The area is much less expensive than places such as The Algarve and Lisboa but, personally, this is the Portugal I wish to visit and even if prices were on a par I would still be drawn to Central Portugal.
Enormous credit to Gerard and Wilma who have renovated the Casa do Alferes Curado to a high standard of comfort. The pool area is also a great chill-out area.
Thank you Gerard and Wilma, your hospitality was very much appreciated and we hope to return soon..
