“Great Stay”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff however our room was not ready so we had a 2 hour wait but were allowed to leave our luggage locked away until we were able to get our room. We had a room on the top floor which overlooked the pool and the sea. The room was very clean and spacious with plenty of storage. There is free air-conditioning and Wi-Fi. The restaurant was good with a wide choice of breakfast foods and the dinner menu was varied with fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. The pool was clean and the gardens were kept tidy. There is a Spa and gym available at a charge. The hotel is only a 2 minute walk to the shops and beach and the local bus stops. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: The top floor rooms have the larger balconies with superb views.

I've been here a week with my husband and my son in the summer of 2014 The stay did not go well. Once we arrived we were told that the room had no balcony, which in a beach hotel is very inconvenient and was not mentioned in the voucher. Then they said that the room did not allow the extra bed, which they had warned the booking partner and they had no answer.
When we reached the room, it was really small, there was no room available for the luggage because they had put the extra bed taking up all the space!
Additionally the room (besides not having balcony) also did not had a window !!!!! It had a skylight above the bead that allowed us to see the sky if we stand on the bed.
We tried unsuccessfully to find a solution, but we were told that the fault was not theirs, but on the booking partner.
Anyway, if you go to this hotel check very well the type of room you book.
The breakfast was very noisy, the employees were throwing the dishes and the rest into containers, making it unpleasant.
The SPA is small and expensive.
The pool area is quite good with a nice grassed area.

The hotel was lovely. As we arrived the reception staff were very helpful and very efficient at giving us our room. We had a nice room on the first floor- though there are issues with the key cards which get a little annoying after some time (but that's a minor issue!). Our room over looked the pool/main road, but there was never a problem with noise.

The rooms were what you would expect for a 3* hotel. We had two double beds in separate rooms with plenty of mirrors. The shower was good, they provided shampoo etc, and a hair dryer. The cleaners came everyday. There was also a fridge to keep things in, but its a not a mini bar so don't expect anything in it.

The pool was in good condition, plenty of sunbeds (free) and there were hammocks on the grass area which are fantastic. There are also 4 post- beds on a sand area which was amazing! The hotel are clearly going out of their way to provide excellent customer satisfaction.

The breakfast was good for a 3*- could have had more variety I felt but they had both hot and cold food, with a live egg and pancake station.

The hotel is in excellent location and just a few minutes from the gorgeous beach and the hustling town centre.

In terms of the town, Monte Gordo itself, its a fairly quiet town with not much to see in the local area, We hired bikes from the hotel from the day for just 4.50E - we cycled over to Spain as the town is just on the border.

The hotel was lovely and great value for money, and if you are looking for a place just to relax, then its perfect.

We stayed for a week. B&B only. Room very clean not exciting but good with lots of storage . Cleaning and servicing of the room good if a bit random. Breakfast very good - self service. Really great staff helpful and friendly. We checked out the other hotels in town and for us Alcazar was the best we saw. Also had a great time in the new spa. The pool is nice and clean but large part of it lacks the late afternoon sun.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view

Currently staying at this hotel. Don't let some of the photos of the moorish inspired corridors pt you off; in the flesh, as so to speak, the hotel is beautiful. The staff are very polite; nothing too much trouble. We had an unexpected upgrade to a suite and it's the size of a small apartment! Room cleaned and sheets changed every day. Breakfast and lunch menu varied and beautifully displayed as well as very tasty. The gardens and pool is an oasis with hammocks and quality sun beds arranged around a good sized pool. The only negative comment I have is that it is too good, I don't want to leave!

Room Tip: Definitely a suite on the lower floor possibly because the lifts are a bit slow.

Just returned from 10 days at the Alcazar and really enjoyed it. Lovely room on 5th floor which was large & spotlessly clean; High standards and very pleasant staff. Must mention Orlando and George who made the most fantastic cocktails every evening. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Very easy to get about - went on local bus and ferry to Spain in no time.

Room Tip: My room on 5th floor and friend's room on 7th. Both ideal, panoramic views. Would think higher...

Just returned from a two-week stay & can thoroughly recommend it. The oiled, naked snake-charmer waitresses at breakfast were, to put it mildly, an eye-opener.

I was challenged by a tattooed dwarf in reception on our second night but, luckily, I got the better of him before he managed to draw his cutlass: phew...

The beggars we encountered around the centre of town were more courteous than most of the waiters in the restaurants... I had to chase one guy for my change: 10 euros ain' t a tip, Diego...

Fish... now that's food. Every kind of protein with a tail: bones that would stump a paleontologist I had to smile & gag on those sharp notes... fishcakes... MMM

Room Tip: South facing upper-floors have a great sea-view, but if you've got children, be aware that the b...
