This is a typical tourist resort, but we chose it because the beach had sun beds. There are better beaches nearer Castro Marim, but we were told sun beds and parasols aren't put out until 1 June!!! Shocked!

As are all beaches in Portugal this one was also clean. They are swept clean nightly of all foreign objects like litter. Not once in a month did we see any litter at all.

We walked along the beach from our hotel in Altura - it's an amazing beach and very long.
We were there in November so it was fairly quiet but we had a really lovely time just plodding along watching the various birds on the beach until we reached Monte Gordo.
There we had a bit of shopping/sightseeing followed by a welcome drink of Sangria and a rest before returning to Altura.
It looked a bit more lively than Altura with quite a few places to eat and drink.
It was interesting walking in between the fishing boats seeing the locals bartering for the catch of the day.
The sand on the whole was soft and clean & the sea was very clear, if a little on the cold side (Nov). We managed to find some lovely shells with various colours.
Must be gorgeous in the Spring/Autumn and hope to go back there in a few years

Main beach resort in the area, some nice little restaurants on the beach, especially near the fisherman's huts. Has a lovely easy going, relaxed feel out of season, absolute opposite July & August, busy, bustling, packed restaurants. no where to park.

I loved the beach, with golden sand, the calm sea, warm water and the quiet at this time of the year.
We ate at the restaurants, we have done some shops at the local shops, and at night we went to the casino.
