“Beautiful from a distance but horrible to walk on”

The beach is gorgeous when you look down on it from above (see my pictures) but that's where it stops. The 'sand' is actually a variety of small and large stones and it gets painful to walk on after a few strides. It's no better with shoes or sandals as they are small enough to get under your feet and large enough to hurt.

Our tip is to get the glass-bottomed boat up the coast to Giverola. It's only a few Euros and the beach is spectacular with lovely soft sand!

After visiting Tossa de Mar on a boat trip from Santa Susanna, after a day out, I really wanted to come back and spend more time there, and I am glad that I did!!! We stayed at a quaint family run bed and breakfast in the old town and had great views from the top floor room, although very basic, was comfortable and spotless, it had a large balcony, air conditioning English TV channels, en suite bathroom and spectacular views of the mountains and hills. I loved the old town with its quaint streets, great range of restaurants and cafes which were inexpensive and were a short distance between each other. Vila Vela was lovely with its cobbled streets and original Spanish houses, and castle, this was a special part of Spain which deserves a visit, good clean beaches and lots of places to stay at varied prices. I found the shops unusual which was a change from the normal beach shops. Very fond memories!!!! The Platja Gran beach was wide plenty of space, sand rather gritty, and sea shelved deeply, not suitable for children, but nevertheless lovely.

Although quite small this beach is very pretty with a typical Spanish ambience to it. The shoreline is dotted with restaurants that cater for all tastes and budgets. A walk on the promenade provides you with a couple of sightseeing spots and photo opportunities. The town adjacent to this beach is also worth visiting. It's got narrow winding roads filled with shops of all kinds (eg souvenir shops, clothes, food, restaurants, summer/beach wear etc).

This was a wonderful beach, not sandy but a more gritty beach. The sea was wonderful, but I would not recommend this beach for children; the sea drops away quite quickly, and the sea quite choppy most of the time
