Myself, my wife and son have stayed here two consecutive years and loved it. The food is great with a wide variety of choice. Rooms are clean and well maintained. There is professional entertainment every night which may not be to everyones taste but is good fun.

Room Tip: overlooking to pool would be the best bet.

Really lovely hotel, everything you want, near the beach, shops, bus station to go to Barcelona, lots of activities and entertainment within the hotel. Friendly staff and amazing selection of food at Breakfast and Dinner. I go back every year and love it.

Arrived after midnight and were greeted with fruit juice and biscuits! Our room was overlooking the street and on the top floor as requested, but unfortunately opposite the Auto Bar which is rather noisy and made for a poor nights sleep. The following night we turned off the air conditioning which made things a bit quieter and by the third night we had become used to the constant hum from acrooss the corridor and slept pretty well.
The room was fine and kept very clean with frequent changes of towels. The flat screen television in the Thompson Brochure illustrations had morphed into a rather antiquated and bulky Grundig model, but with ITV we occasionally enjoyed "The Chase" and The Six O'Clock News whilst getting ready for dinner.
Meals were definitely one of the hotel's strong points with plenty of choice and freshly prepared roasts, fish and pasta served up by the busy chefs in the dining room itself.
We didn't use the outdoor pools, preferring to swim in the sea or travel to other places during the day. The indoor pool and spa rather claustrophobically situated in the basement were uncomfortably hot and stuffy.
As for entertainment there were a couple of decent shows during our week's stay; the highlight being the Michael Jackson tribute. Other comments about the poor visibility in the show bar are spot on!
Overall the hotel is very well run and is probably most suitable for families, but is fine for couples as well.
What about Tossa De Mar itself. This was our second visit and it was much busier in September than when we came in June a few years ago. It's a nice enough place with enough to sustain you for a week although live music is hard to come by and starts very late.
The main drawback of Tossa is the lack of public transport connections up the coast to the "real" Costa Brava in the north. Even the taxi drivers are vague about the cost of fares to somewhere like Parafrugells. There is now however a very good direct bus service direct from the local bus station to Barcelona, stopping only at Lloret for 22 euros return. You do have to nominate which bus you wish to return on, but you get guaranteed seats.

Since it opened in 2003 we have stayed at this hotel 12 times the food, staff and rooms are first class, although entertainment not to everyone's taste. The staff are always very polite and attentive, drink prices are reasonable with house wine starting at 7.75 euros a bottle. Buffet style food at breakfast lunch and dinner although there are always freshly cooked eggs in the morning and at least two grills on the go both at lunch and dinner.
I always have managed to get a pool view on all my holidays, even this year but understand they have introduced a 12 euro charge per night, this I'll not pay as the rooms are all the same even those road facing
There are 3 nice but different beaches all within a 10 minute stroll. I'd recommend both Bar Louis and Bar Andres for good food and if you like to have drink with the locals try Bar Josep.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same but they do have junior suites at either end of the hotel for an extra cost a...

Just returned from my second visit to this fabulous hotel and it exceeded last years experience and some more ... This hotel is one of the best in Spain and has something for everyone.Anyone planning a holiday here please ignore any negative comments you read and if you do have any issues during your stay simply speak to the staff and if they can solve the problem they will and happily too. this year we had room 367 which had a lovely view of the pool , it was spotlessly clean every day with tea/coffee/toiletries etc .The food was again second to none and after three days of sitting at the same table and ordereing the same Agua Mineral at dinner , the delighful waiter had the water open and ready for our arrival ( you dont get service like that in may hotels ) staff were wonderful especially Simon and this year the weather was glorious too .hope to return again same time next year .Thank you hotel golden bahia for a trully great stay well deserving of its 4 * status and im quite picky ..

Room Tip: 3rd floor and above get more sun and better view ask for pool view room and telephone 2 weeks prior...

We holidayed here 4 years ago and when looking for a week in the sun without too much travelling time our first thought was the Golden Bahia at Tossa de Mar. We had two fab weeks last time and our only regret this time was we only booked one!!!!! We are sure we had the same room all very nice, clean and spacious and with a lovely pool view - we could hardly believe our luck again. The hotel is very clean and no problems getting a sun lounger. Even the fussiest eaters must find something nice to eat in the restaurant and we always found it lovely and hot. Our only moan is that the waiters and bar staff were a let down, quite miserable looking mostly and getting a drink for us an effort but if we went to the bar ourselves we were told to sit down and they would come to us. We arrived around 11.30 pm and by the time we had checked in, had a look round the room etc it was gone 12 when we went into the Piano Bar and ordered a margharita as advertised and promoted on numerous boards at a special offer. However another waitress came over and said we couldn't have the promotion price we had to pay full as it didn't apply until the following day. We pointed out it was the following day but were too tired to argue. The bar and waiting staff really stop us from rating this as Excellent and suggest they take lessons from the cleaners who were always jolly or visit the Rui Hotel Gran Canaria for lessons where the waiters and bar staff are absolutely first class under similar conditions. Tossa de Mar itself is just lovely and every morning we enjoyed a lovely stroll after breakfast exploring the many narrow streets but always finding our way to the friendly beach cafe and a lovely sit down in the sun with a coffee and taking in the beautiful surroundings. There is a train style bus which will take you to the castle if the walk is to arduous, and another train style bus to take you round Tossa itself. We love it here and will definately revisit. I quite fancy the hotels suites !!!!!

Arrived home today as a pair of happy travellers after a ten day stay in Tossa de Mar. This is the best hotel we have stayed in on several visits to the Spanish Costas and provided an excellent base for a relaxing holiday.

Despite our room being on the first floor, above the restaurant and facing out on to the road we slept peacefully as the soundproofing is excellent. Our balcony had views towards the hills surrounding Tossa and was predominantly in the shade so if you prefer a sunnier aspect then ask for a pool view room. The room was smartly furnished and spotlessly clean. There was ample storage, tea/coffee making facilities (a first for us on our visits to Spain) and four English language TV channels (BBC1, ITV1, BBC World News, Sky Sports 1). The room lacked only a refrigerator but we understand from other guests that this is provided in the suites along with a separate lounge area, jacuzzi bath on the balcony and complimentary soft drinks.

The food served at the hotel is of a very high standard and benefits from the majority of dishes being based on Spanish and Catalan influences. The selection each night was extensive and lends itself to having a series of entrees rather than a defined main course. All ingredients are expertly handled and in particular meats are cooked to perfection, falling effortlessly from the bone. As Tossa is an active fishing port each evening's selection is replete with fresh seafood notably king prawns, mussels, monkfish, and hake. The choice at breakfast is also extensive and includes freshly baked breads and patisseries (Tossa's bakery is across the road from the hotel). The drawbacks of the restaurant revolve largely around its buffet format - the food is not always piping hot, the staff are concerned with the restaurant as a whole rather than you as individual patrons, and at busy times there can be a bit of a queue at the food stations. If you accept that these criticisms are common to the type of food service rather than of the hotel then there is little to complain about and much to enjoy. The only niggle is the lack of a pastry chef as the desserts, while perfectly ok, are clearly bought-in pre-made.

There is, however, a pendantically upheld rule that you may not take drinks bought at the hotel bar into the restaurant. Instead, a rather spartan selection of beverages may be bought in the restaurant during your meal but these must be finished before you leave. We tried asking for 'unapproved' drinks with our meals but were told that it was not possible to have them. It is then perfectly allowable to buy a bottle of Budweiser in the hotel bar and toast the health of the maitre-d' from the doorway of the restaurant whilst your other half swills a glass of house wine a mere pace across the threshold but sharing said drinks over dinner is strictly taboo. We're sure that there must be some logic to this system given the conviction with which it is policed but after our ten days we hadn't managed to fathom it. Answers on a postcard (no joined-up writing) c/o The Bar & Restaurant Affiliation Society of Tossa.

We have never been great lovers of hotel entertainment but found ourselves caught up in some of the activities and watching at least one of the evening shows on purpose (a well performed Michael Jackson tirbute) largely as a result of the enthusiasm of the entertainment staff. Hearing Ferran (ents manager) call bingo in five different languages is worth the one Euro entry, although the prizes of hotel branded mugs, t-shirts and flip-flops is not (maybe we'd be less bitter had we won). Furthermore, the hotel enjoys a range of excellent facilities in which to provide the entertainment including spacious lounges and poolside areas. We have never spent as much time purely in our hotel on any other holiday than we did at the Golden Bahia.

Tossa itself is a fantastic place to relax and still retains its historic and cultural heritage in the face of tourist development. If you enjoy the liveliness of the many bars and clubs of say Lloret, Salou or Benidorm then this might not be the place for you. Tossa is also a little isolated but with some compromise on times and frequencies local buses connect you with Barcelona, Girona and nearby Lloret. In one day we managed to travel to Girona (5.50Euros pp each way) and after sight-seeing there take the train to the Dali Museum (12Euros pp entry) in Figueres (5.50Euros pp return) before catching the return bus to Tossa. Decent value when the hotel offers a trip to only the Dali Museum for 130Euros pp.

Overall, a thoroughly relaxing time in excellent surroundings. It's a question of when, not if, we will return.

Room Tip: Rooms with a pool view enjoy the sunniest aspect.
