“Good hotel in a lovely town”
Reviewed 18 August 2012 via mobile

Just returned from a week in this hotel with my partner and our teenage daughters.
Firstly this hotel is a good 3* mostly for families with children. It gives the impression that it is something a little different, (4* spa hotel) but it isn't.
The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and very well maintained.
We had 2 double rooms which were small but as we don't spend a lot of time in the room it didn't really matter, there is a fridge, and TV with ITV and BBC1 and world news.
The aircon in the rooms was brilliant and very much needed when we were there as the temp reached 38 degrees!
We stayed at the golden Bahia on a half board basis, the breakfasts were very nice, all the usual, eggs fried, omelettes made fresh while you wait. All very nice.
Dinner was buffet style. Not too bad, we managed ok. If we had been staying any longer we would have eaten out a few times as it becomes samey and boring.

The pool area is lovely, always managed to get sun loungers, the towel police are a brilliant idea, no reserving sunbeds.

Snack bar and drinks are expensive but the food was much better than the restaurant.

The entertainment staff work really hard, always something to do if you want to join in.
The evening entertainment was poor! The usual! Bingo, giving out certificates for shooting etc then the professional entertainment. We preferred to walk into the town and go to one of the many bars.

Tossa itself is beautiful. A good mix of old and new, no high rise buildings. The shopping area is really pretty, winding streets.

Tossa isn't for beach lovers, the beach is shingle, and tough on the feet!

All in all the hotel is a nice family hotel. But if it's peace and quiet you are after then try somewhere else.

Just back from a lovely one week holiday at this hotel.Great amenities, friendly staff, wide selection of good food with plenty of activities going on throughout the day.Every member of staff we encountered was helpful, courteous and professional and genuinely seemed proud to work there.Tossa is a lovely resort with a nice mix of old town and new developments which complement each other well. We found a cracking little bar called Don Juan in a side street just back from the front in the old town. Here we had many a good night with the staff who were friendly and welcoming. All in all we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Look for one overlooking the pool if possible.

Just returned from our first family holiday in Tossa de Mar although my wife and I have stayed in the resort (different hotel) before. The Golden Bahia de Tossa was recommended to us and now we know why! We cannot understand why anyone would find serious fault with this hotel, but then some people like to find fault with anything... If this hotel was on the beach it would be perfect. Location wise it is a ten minute walk to the beach but as you are walking through a delightful town centre to reach the beach it's not a hardship unless you have difficulty in walking.

Everything about our holiday exceeded our expectations. The hotel is spotless and very well run by professional and courteous staff. Some complain that the staff aren't friendly, well if you want them to be falling at your feet in gratitude that you are staying in their hotel then you will be disappointed. We treat people with respect and that is what we got back from all staff. They dealt with our (few) needs politely and efficiently.

As stated in other reviews the hotel rigidly enforced an excellent "no reserving sunbeds" policy. Despite the hotel being full, we never had any problem getting sunbeds after a leisurely breakfast. Clientele was mixed UK, French, Spanish, Dutch and a few Eastern Europeans. Although it is the height of the school holidays, we never saw any bad behaviour or friction between guests, something which sadly we have experienced in the past.

Food was the best we have eaten in a 4/5 star hotel in years. Yes, it's buffet style but apart from a tray of mushrooms, everything we ate was tasty and hot enough. Over a 10 day stay the variety was pretty good too. We had intended to eat out once or twice (and there are many good restaurants in Tossa) but in the end we had dinner at the hotel every evening and never got bored with it. Although large, the restaurant was generally quite calm and relaxed, not noisy and cramped "canteen style" like some hotels.

The entertainment team were great. We don't usually go in for hotel entertainment but during the day got involved in table tennis, mini golf, shooting and archery. There was also a host of other activities for youngsters through to adults, all well organised without being intrusive for those who didn't want to get involved.

My only gripe was that the advertised free wifi didn't work for the three devices which we had between us. Others were experiencing the same problem but some seemed to connect OK.

Overall, a great hotel in a lovely unspoiled Spanish town which deserves to be explored. I'd give it 6 stars if I could! Looking forward to the next time....

Room Tip: Pool view best but even road facing rooms won't cause much disturbance as the road isn't par...

We stayed here in July 2012. The rooms are old-fashioned decorated and particularly small. The swimming pool is okay but it was there every day very very crowdy.
The food was poor and the restaurant was too busy as well.
The staff were attentive and kind.
This is more a 2 or at the highest a 3 star holiday hotel. Not worth the 4 stars and the money!!

Room Tip: there are no good rooms!!!!

We stayed here in may and had a great time. The kids club kept our daughter happy and we were too as the staff running the club we're great. Good adult activities during the day such as shooting were on offer too. The food was fantastic. We went full board and the waste band showed it. Buffet style but with so much choice, freshly cooked and regularly refreshed. There is also a chef who cooks to order various meats fish and in the morning omelets and fried eggs. three pools and plenty of sun loungers no towel saving in the mornings though as staff remove them if left so you can always get one. Didn't see one German flag towel! Drink prices are high as expected but the local supermarket was well stocked and cheap so use it to save a few pounds if not all inclusive. In summary, always clean, attentive happy staff, great for kids, excellent food, BBC 1 and ITV on the room tv!!! Brilliant.

The Golden Bahia was spotlessly clean and a really beautiful hotel. All of the staff were effortlessly attentive, from the chamber maids to the general staff. Free wifi was available too - although it was mainly very slow.

Meals - there was plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet and the evening buffet and the food was really delicious too. They was a wide variety of local foods and other European cuisine to choose from. I don't know how people can say they didn't enjoy the food, we thought the quality and the service provided in the restaurant was superb! Remember that we are not in England and they need to cater for everyone ! We always walked away satisfied after our breakfast & e/meal. Half board was perfect for us. We enjoyed exploring the towns's Spanish tapas bars and cafe's in the afternoon. which are located all around the hotel. The ones on the beach front are slightly more expensive but were very nice.

Entertainment - not really what we needed or particulary wanted- not really our thing. All the youngsters seemed to be having a good time though.

We took our 4 month old baby on her first holiday here, and we were so pleased with the quality of the hotel, the location of the hotel and town the hotel is situated in! It's a typical Seaside Spanish town - mainly with Spanish holidaying there and French. There are no fast food take outs or McDonalds, so you really do feel like you are holidaying in Spain.

Tossa Del Mar - An amazing find. The town is simply beautiful. There is a little train which stops outside the hotel that drives around the town. Takes 40 minutes and costs 4 euros - definitely worth a ride to view everything at a glance. Hotel is near a supermarket and 5 - 10 mins walk to the centre, maybe another 10 mins to the beach.

Pool - the pools are perfect although to get a bed wasn't always the easiest of tasks, then to get an umbrella was just frustrating at times - especially with a 4 month baby. Other guests just simply lay their towels down and seemed to go out for the day - mainly ignorant English people to be fair. Definitely could have been monitored by the hotel staff more thouroughly. The sun roof terrace on the 6th floor was a beautiful way to seperate yourself - (for adults only) lovely feature of the hotel. Just ask for a key at reception.

We really enjoyed our week away here! Thank you to the hotel for making our first holiday with our new baby girl so perfect!

I have just returned from a fantastic holiday thanks to the Golden Bahia Tossa. I have not been so sad to leave a holiday before, it is a great hotel. It ticks all the boxes for a great family holiday, it is spotlessly clean, well run, good food choice, friendly staff etc. The pool area is clean with plenty of sunbeds and umbrella's and I love the no towels on sunbeds policy before 10am that they rigidly enforce, well done GB, this ruins countless holidays. It is a decent sized pool with shallow areas for younger children and deeper bit for the adults. The Tossa climate is fantastic for me, not too hot, about 30 degrees, cloudless skies most of the time with a cool breeze. another thing to note is we never encountered one insect, no mozzies! The whole hotel felt very safe and secure, I felt at ease letting my 9 year old son go off on his own in the evenings round the hotel with his new friends. It is not a rowdy hotel and luckily for us there were not many inconsiderate noisy people around when we stayed. They have a team of entertainment staff that run events all through the day, such as water polo, archery, bowling etc for both adults and children. if you win these events you are presented with your diploma in the evening. The evening entertainment is very good, with some sort of event every night. The entertainment staff were very good, top marks to them. The room we had was a bit small but you dont go here to sit in a room, you go here to enjoy the pool. The town itself has the modern "high street" with the usual shops in it, then the old town. One golden gem that is a must for visiting is the castle, fantastic winding streets and a great view from the top. The beach is ok, the sand is very coarse (sorry kids no sand castles) and a bit rough on the foot. The sea is gorgeously blue as you would expect and worth a swim. We went on a boat tour up the coast including cave visits and it was a well worth trip, fantastic coastline and dropped off at a lovely beach for a couple of hours. I could go on and on about this hotel but my last comment will be on the staff, they are very friendly and accomodating and will try if you ask nicely to do anything they can to make your stay great.
well done, will be returning.

Room Tip: possibly choose a top floor (500) room so you cant hear people walking on tiled floors above (or cha...
