“A fine hotel for a relaxed holiday”
Reviewed 24 September 2011

Our second visit and we are very likely to return.
A fine modern hotel with vast imposing lobby. Set in large grounds with impressive gardens, several pools and bars. More than adequate poolside loungers but lack of shade. In a quiet location but an easy, flat, 1 mile walk to the beach, bars and expensive shops; Half mile to a small run down shopping centre.
Hotel drinks prices are very reasonable, 3.30euro for pint of beer, 3.00 for extensive range of coctails. Nightly entertainment both on an outside stage and indoors in the adjloining Tabaiba hotel, ranging from highly professional to dull. Nightly english langauge film shown on large sceen in an outside bar - this is also the last bar to close at 00.30. Main bars close at midnight so not for night owls.
Room reasonable size, beds very comfortable, large spotless bathroom. Air-con worked well.
Room looked out over palm trees and tropical plants to a pool, a very pleasant aspect. But beware, there are a number of rooms with no view as they face directly accross a passageway to an identical block of tabaiba rooms.
Staff very genuinely friendly except for the charmless receptionist at check in
I would have rated the hotel excellent except that sheets were changed only twice during 9 night stay (I expect alternate nights in a 4* hotel), towels rather thin, no tea makung facilites in the room and a charge is made to use in-room safety deposit box (13.50 euros per week or 2.50 per night) and fridge (same rate).
Excellent selection of food at breakfast and dinner buffets. No queues. Hotel maybe half full but would easily cope when full.
First visit was with Thomsons. This visit booked directly with hotel and airline which worked out cheaper, even allowing for taxi to/from airport

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing Tabaiba hotel which are located on all three floors

I have to say that some people on this review site have been very harsh about this hotel. Like many people I looked though all comments and was nervous about my trip due to one or two recent comments around cockroaches. I have a fear of them and a few people said they were everywhere in the hotel. This was not true on our vist thankfully. Yes you may see the odd one around which is normal but there was not an issue at this hotel. Also some people were moaning about hard pillows and beds - again no issue here - they are I believe memory foam and are better for your back. You can change to softer ones if you want! We loved ours

LOTS OF Positives: Amazing pool - with no issues with sunbed availability, clean hotel, friendly staff AMAZING food in plentiful supply, good bar service, good location - a short walk to the beach and posh bars and shops on the sea front (you will need the walk to burn off the yummy food!!) Taxis are cheap so you can go anywhere for a good price. Playa is just down the road if you want a good dance and cheap drinks

MINOR Negatives: The cardio equipment in the gym needs replacing as most is broken. However good weights area if thats what you like. No air conditioning that I could tell when I went. Our room was a little noisy with banging in the morning which we think was the cleaners/lift. Not enought to complain about though,

Room Tip: Our room was a little noisy with banging in the morning which we think was the cleaners/lift. Not en...

Just come back from a weeks stay at the Maspalomas Princess. Great Hotel. Room was immaculate and cleaned everyday. Very spacious and if you happen to be on the 2nd or 3rd floor (if not, request a room there), then you can appreciate the lovely views of Gran Canaria. Pool area was fantastic and even though shared with the Tabaiba Princess Hotel, there is plenty of room and sun beds to go around.

The hotel only has a half board or full board option for food but if you go to the Tabaiba Princess, they do have an All Inclusive Option as well. Food is a bit hit and miss at times. Breakfast and lunch are fine but the evening meal has very little choice. (only 1 meat option and a fish dish). If you are full board, lunch is served in the Tabaiba Hotel which is fine as the hotels are a mirror image of each other and you soon get your barings.

There are only two downside points regarding this Hotel:

1) Location: The Hotel is a good 20mins walk to Maspalomas/Playa de Ingles and in the heat, it's probably a good idea to catch a taxi. These are usually outside the hotel on most days.

2) Evening Entertainment: This is your typical hi-de-hi entertainment with acts such as acrobats, parrot shows and flamenco dancers. Best act is probably the Beatles tribute band which are quite reasonable. The acts normally come on at 10pm but the outside bar staff normally switch the outside terrace lights off at midnight (even if your still sitting out there) so if you want a bit of life, your better off going into Play de Ingles. There is also music in the piano bar but again, this normally finishes around midnight.

Overall, if you are after a chilled out relaxing holiday sitting by the pool then this is the place to go!!!

Top Tips: Don't pay for the use of your fridge in your room (13 Euros for 1 week), a handy pair of scissors will allow you to open the fridge. Also, instead of buying water/newspapers etc in the hotel, pop over to the Dolphin Supermarket at the back of the hotel (theres a security gate at the back which you can get out using your room key) where you can get these items a lot cheaper.

Stayed second week in September 2011. A great hotel but perhaps not beach side as we normally stay in. Nevertheless a brilliant hotel. Great room, Larger than normal hotels previously visited. Cleaned every day.Staff happy and friendly. The beach area round the pool is like coarse sand which gets very hot in soaring temperatures. Food ample and enough choice, from fish, to steaks with peppercorn sauce. Salad items with plenty of choice. Boiled potatoes, chips, sautee you name it we had it. Breakfast good choice, and timings great if your not an early riser!!. Taxi to beach about 4 euro, maspalomas shopping good. Playa de Ingles worth a visit for your shopping, local bars in beach area good. Did not get hassled too much. This Hotel is well worthy of its 5* don't always believe what other visitors have to say everyone is different. Go stay yourself you will enjoy!

We stayed in this hotel in september 2011, the food was excellant buffet style with every choice catered for during our stay. the staff were very friendly & helpful including our thompson rep.
The hotel was very clean with an army of cleaners cleaning the hotel every morning.
Some people have complained about the location, but the taxi fares were very cheap to get out & about, they were very helpful & friendly.
We took a bus ride to Morgan for the 1/2 day 8.30euro for the two of us, the bus ride did take us up along the cliff top road's which my partner was terified with.Morgan is a small port with a sandy cove beach but it did smell a little.
We stayed in the princess hotel on a full board basis, the sister hotel which was all incusive & shares the same grounds as the princess hotel is in my opion is the better option as the drinks can sap your spending money during your stay.
The pool arears which have bars dotted around the complex & a beach area which attracts the sun all day, the beach is made up of very small stones which we found easer to clean from your feet than sand which tends to stick.
we did not find getting the sun beds a problem around the pool arears. the pools are various depths starting at the beech side fron a few cms to aprox 1.4 meters in depth which is great for just lazing in a the hot sun or a good swim.
They had activites thoughout the day including tennis ,volleyball, water aroebics, there is also a thi massage centre in the middle of the pool with fish pedicures from about 10 euros.
All in all we would recommend this hotel and would defently visit at sometime in the future.Just one downside the beds in our room were twin singles pushed together they were a little uncomfortable.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room good point easy access to the pool dining room ect, Bad point too close t...

We stayed at this hotel for one week at the end of August 2011, booked with Thomson. We loved it.

We requested and were allocated a room overlooking the pool on the second floor. The room was huge compared to most hotels I have stayed at with loads of storage space and a large bathroom. It was exceptionally clean - as was all of the hotel. The balcony was a good size too complete with somewhere to hang wet clothes and a table and chairs. There was a flat screen TV but we never turned it on. There was a safe in the room - 13.5 euros for the week. There was also a fridge at 13.5 euros a week but we didn't bother with it. The room had air con but it was of the central air circulation type, probably not the best if you like it to be really cold but we found it fine.

We stayed full board and the food was excellent - loads of choice (buffet at every meal) and very plentiful with hot dishes being brought out every few minutes. The waiting staff were very efficient. Drink prices were comparable with anything available outside the hotel e.g. 2.1 euros for a coke and beer starting from around 2.5 euros for a local brew, cocktails were around 5.5 euros. The sister hotel (Tabitha) which is next door and shares the pool area with this hotel is all inclusive so I would recommend that hotel if you are inclined to drink a lot!

The pool area was fantastic. Two small paddling pools for small children and one huge pool area (comprising of 3 pools) for all, including a fake beach. Loads of sun loungers were available. The staff told us that we were staying in low season so there was never a competition to get a sun lounger - in fact, most people followed the sun and moved around onto empty sun loungers as the day progressed. Some people did reserve sun loungers however and on our last day we did as well in order to bag our favourite spot! Unfortunately an obnoxious and loud English family moved them and took the spot themselves - have never seen such rude behaviour!

The bars were very good for a drink at any time and the cocktails were pricey but delicious. There was a happy hour between 5pm and 6pm which I thought was a bit of a stupid time to have it as most people are still by the pool or getting ready for dinner then. The cocktails are not included in happy hour either which I thought was a bit unfair. The service from the bar staff was excellent.

The evening entertainment was poor to fair with the Beatles tribute band probably being the best. The piano players were in particular quite bad, including one who clearly did not know the words and played the instrumental of each song and only sang the chorus! Was quite funny even though it was not intended to be. Because of the location of the hotel (see below), outside evening entertainment was limited. Taxis are fairly cheap though so we used those to go further afield to Playa de Ingles and Meloneras at night.

The location was probably the worst thing about the hotel. It is located 1.3 miles from the nearest beach, although there is a wide footpath along a dry riverbed to follow so its hard to get lost. On a hot day though, it was not always the best walk. The beach at Maspalomas is very small now as a good part of it has been washed away by winter storms which means that it is very crowded. The beach at Melenoras wasn't very good either. In the end, we stayed by the pool every day. If you are a beach lover then stay somewhere else or pay for a taxi to the beach at Playa de Ingles which was fab.

The Thomson reps were very good. We booked one trip with them to go on a dolphin search (29 euros for 3.5 hours). We found no dolphins and got quite sun burnt on the boat! As we hadn't seen any dolphins they said we could go again for free but the date was after we had flown home so if you are going to do this trip then go at the beginning of your holiday. Overall I thought the trips looked good but were too expensive to do more than one. I would recommend using the local buses to get around instead.

To respond to other people's comments - I saw one cockroach at the hotel the entire week and it was dead. There are quite a few cats at the hotel but they never came near us. We did have a few ants and a lizard on our balcony but they didn't bother us.

Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel. Although I am not sure whether it would be as nice during high season.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool and on the second or third floor

Back from a week here from 22/8/11. I was really concerned about the cockroaches as some reviewer said it was crawling in the hotel with them, but we never saw a single one and I've never been to such a clean hotel It was outstanding how much they cleaned! Housekeeper was even scrubbing the wicker furniture in reception with a bucket and brush.

Food fab, pools fab, walk to beach fab, sand dunes amazing!

Staff were helpful, friendly, and pool bar staff/piano bar staff were lovely and funny
All in all a wonderful hotel to spend your holiday with great weather.
