i stayed here with my family at the end of march 2012. The rooms are basic but if your self catering you'll find it easy enough to cook food! there is no microwave though. we're used to sleeping in caravans when we holiday in the uk, so the accomodation was fab for what we paid! staff very friendly and helpful, couldnt do enough for you! If you want a taxi reception will ring for you. Free wifi proved very helpful too! your only a 5 min drive away from the water park and playa de ingles. The hotel provides a free bus down to the beach, and theres a supermarket 300 meters up the road for all your essentials.
all in all, we had a fab time and will be returning in the future!

The pool area is perfect for sun bathing and there are plenty of sun loungers. The little shop at reception sells essentials and is reasonably priced. There are two big supermarkets within walking distance.
The rooms aren't luxurious, however we were not here to stay inside all day so they were perfect for what we needed. Would highly recommend.

My girlfriend and I were looking for an economical, two week, self-catering trip away in Gran Canaria, Maspalomas and we were very pleasantly surprised to find Oasis Vista exceeded our expectations, especially given some of the previous reviews we had read.

Our first impressions were the hotel was clean, tidy and appeared to be well maintained. On arrival we were greeted by "the man" mentioned in other reviews, whom I agree is not the most welcoming of chaps but once we made a few polite exchanges he even cracked a smile or two. To be honest throughout our stay there he was quite pleasant to us and I think impressed with our attempts to at least try to speak Spanish rather than just assume he and everyone else was fluent in English. In general, I believe this is a good rule of thumb, i.e. to take some time to learn some Spanish phrases - the Spanish appreciate it! We found the other Vista Oasis staff (including the cleaners) were very pleasant, friendly and helpful.

The apartment to which were directed was, as we had requested, by the pool. We found it clean, tidy and comfortable. We were fully aware the apartment was considered "basic" but we needed nothing more than a kitchen, bathroom, beds, storage, pool, a place to relax and have a drink and hopefully a decent view. It ticked all of the boxes and actually much more. We had no problems with the comfort of the beds or sofa and plenty of storage was provided for two or three people. Some mention has been made of creatures in the apartments - you're in virtual tropical conditions! What did you expect?! Doors and windows have to be left open for ventilation and inevitably the ants, cockroaches, or small lizard will enter the apartment. Provided it's not an infestation, I don't think there are grounds for much complaint. Just deal with it. We found one cockroach and shewed it out, lots of ants a couple of 10cm lizards - unpleasant, but no problem.

The location of the apartments perfectly fine if you are happy using it as a base from which to go to the beach or anywhere else by vehicle but, aside from local shops, a three or four restaurants there is not much else to enjoy locally, though it is a pleasant enough area. We found the bar grill and Chinese restaurant up the road from the hotel had the best quality food.

The kitchen utensils and crockery were somewhat mismatch, but plentiful and adequate.

Our apartment had its own very pleasant private patio area with table and chairs and a great view over Maspalomas. There is also a pleasant walkway lined with cacti at the back of the patio garden areas you can walk around and enjoy the view. Many if not all of the other apartments on the site have patio-come-garden areas but I would recommend you choose an apartment at the back of hotel to be able enjoy the views from your patio area.

The bathroom was clean and in excellent condition, with no obvious signs of wear and tear, corrosion, etc. The water jet was very powerful and water hot enough for one or two showers. Unfortunately, the water heater (one for each apartment I believe) isn't really able to keep up with sustained demand but the water never went freezing, just lukewarm.

We found the pool and pool area clean and loungers sensibly organised around the pool each day, Our only problem was finding a free lounger on the first couple of days but we soon realised that to our surprise (and disdain) other guests were getting up as early as 5.00 a.m. (and sometimes even earlier!) to place beach towels on the best positioned loungers! Sad, but true. Signs prohibiting this were ignored so, unfortunately, we had no choice but to engage in this selfish practice ourselves, though we drew the line at 6.00 a.m. We discovered this, by the way, as it was often hot at night (no air conditioning) which disturbed our sleep and we would hear the odd lounger being dragged across tiling to get that oh-so-perfect pool position by some saddo guest at 3.30 a.m! The pool itself was great and the filter vents cleaned two or three times a day. We did experience the odd long hair floating in the water but I guess the water turnover through the filtration system is not as efficient as, say, in a municipal swimming pool. Another issue was the grout between the tiles had had some re-pointing with a substance which had started to deteriorate and stuck to my swimming shorts - not happy. Thankfully it was a lesson learned and I didn't sit on the pool ledges after that. We saw some people complain but not a lot could be done without shutting down the pool for a day or two.

The restaurant and bar area were okay, but quite unsophisticated and a little greasy spoon cafe looking. We didn't partake in the food offered as it reflected the aforementioned greasy spoon style but I did have a prawn salad toastie, which was very tasty.

Other than what I have already described, other points of interest, regular coach rides to Maspalomas beach every day, on-site tennis courts (x2, balls provided), outdoor pool tables (balls have seen better days!), table tennis, air hockey table, internet access in the reception area (coin-op), paraquet cage, good information on local attractions and excursions in reception area and wide local area map provided by hotel.

We had a fantastic time in Gran Canaria and planned our days out to the many attractions well, e.g. Holiday World, Palmitos Park, Aqualand, Mundo Aborigen and Sioux City not to mention all of the cultural museums and places. Sounds like an ad for the place but it's not. We just had a great time there. Don't expect the hotel to lay everything on - you are not paying for it to be and it's not that type of hotel!

A few words on the heat: we went in the last two weeks of August. I brought a room thermometer, as I'm not good in extreme heat. It hovered around 27°-28°C in the bedroom of the apartment throughout our stay and a few times topped 31°C, so be prepared for that if it's of concern to you. In a heatwave, we were advised it can be even higher(!) If you want to stay as cool as possible I would suggest you stay near the coastline as it is definitely cooler thereabouts. The day we went to Mundo Aborigen the hire car thermometer displayed 42°C and it was so incredibly hot there (surprisingly, as we were high up) we had to rapidly drive back down to the coast. Our room had a nice breeze passing through it with our patio door and bedroom windows open. If hadn't had that the we would have found it unpleasantly oppressive in the apartment. If it gets too hot I would suggest you head for the the nearest supermarket meat fridges! Not many places seem to bother with AC for some reason, though thankfully the supermarkets do.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: Rooms by the pool are best, especially that back on the the view over Maspalomas.

Just back from a lovely holiday in the Gran Canaria, I asked for views of the dunes and the sea and easy access since my travelling companion has reduced mobility and got all I asked for and more at the Vista Oasis Apartments. In the late afternoon the terrace was shaded so we could sit out before we went out for the night to chill after a day in the beach. Place might be dated but its kept clean and bungalows are lovely and spacious. For people who want nightly entertainment do not stay here, for people who want a lovely peaceful holiday its great, no lager louts and no loud music after 11pm. . Maspalomas has a free bus to the beach three times before noon and free returns three times with the last one at 4.30pm. Lovely beach, I had a large parasol purchased for €10 euro that folded up neat and was lovely lying under for shade to read or take a break from sunbathing, great breeze at the beach. Pity about the hassle from the con artists - they are the most annoying people I have ever met trying to get money no matter what, best thing is to totally ignore them. Gets crowed by the 4.30pm bus but the driver leaves no one behind. The main bus stop is only a 5 minutes walk to the right ( straight on to the beach) along a shaded drive from where the free beach bus leaves us off. We had a lovely trip out to Puerto Rico for €2 or a direct trip up to Las Palmas for €4. Well worth it. For entertainment its easy to flag down a taxi or ask the receptionist to ring for a taxi which is only from €3.50 to €4.80 to take you Playa Del Ingles. We went to the Yumba Centre and had some lovely meals there and great shows from Sparkles Showbar. I have to mention the fabulous steak we got at Martel House Restaurant, I think on the second floor for only €10, It melted in your mouth. We also had a lovely meal at Café Opra restaurant just off the Kasbah Center while entertained by a great Brazilian singer. If staying by the hotel there are also two lovely restaurants and a Spar supermarket 5 minutes from the apartments. The apartments also have a mini shop with fresh bread and milk and other items. We did not eat at the apartments but full board is provided if one wants it, so I cannot comment on the food. The apartments have a very useful fridge, cooker, kettle to put on cooker (no electric kettle, we brought our own little travelling one) Great for a cuppa in the morning and some cereals all other meals we eat out. Dining out is very reasonable in the Gran Canaria. The receptionist was very helpful arranging a day trip out to the markets and there is someone on duty 24 hours at the door to let in late comers at night. We had plug in repellents so no mosquitoes or other visitors as we made sure not to leave food out. It cost €10 for the safe for the week, well worth it for peace of mind. Recommended place to stay *****

We went on the 12th May 2012 the weather was red hot the complex is clean the staff are ok but the Spanish come on a friday until a sunday they take over the place they take all of the sun beds and are so loud and rude the complex is out of the way and on a hill you only have one bar near by Faro 2 is near by but its nearly empty only one bar open so its a waste of time going so its a taxi ride to Playa de Ingles which costs approx 5 euros each way so it works out over 2 weeks as expensive but you have no choice as its travel to the Yumbo or nothing to do at the complex the entertainment at the complex is rubbish I wish I could say a good word about the complex only thats its clean and the rooms are ok if you go to the Yumbo centre look for the Society Bar its only 2 .50 euros for a pint or 2.50 euros for a short and mixer its owned by george and the staff are great and will look after you

Room Tip: If you do go room 23 is a good room with sea views

Me and my fiancee stayed here the week 03/01/11 and were pleasantly surprised by what the hotel had to offer, pool was lovely but got a tad cold particularly in the evening/late afternoon, however this didnt seem to deter any of the kids who looked like they were having a fab time! Stayed self catering so couldnt comment on the food, Holiday World is a great place to have fun, bowling which is very cheap I think 3 games for 12 Euros which aint bad at all, arcade games restaurants and a sort of Fun Fair which goes on every night until the wee hours with roller Coasters, dodgems, Pirate ships, Walzers, a great place to relax and have fun which is what holidays are all about! faro 2 shopping centre also only approx 15-20 min walk away and has a selection of good shops, we went to the water park i think which was called Aqualand, correct me if im wrong but again we had a great time, 20 euros for all day per person but you could come back the next day for 5 euros! Overall we had a fab time and would highly recommend!
