“Butlins and Benidorm”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2013

As a family we have not had a holiday for some time so please bear this in mind with my comments. We wanted a holiday all inclusive with a budget in mind like most families. Gran Canaria as a holiday destination is beautiful for this time of year August 2013. Maspolamas Vista Oasis holiday reviews really put us off as a family and to be honest we had to stop looking at them and make our own mind up once we got there. On arrival at the Vista Oasis reception the staff where very polite(With broken English). We had a bungalow a short distance from the pool and restaurant (thank god, I will explain further on). Our view from the apartment overlooked the Playa del ingles and the sea. (All good so far). Food - If you like chips with everything you will be ok, but to be honest not good really. One of the biggest things that put us off as a family is the smell of the toilets whist eating (Proper bad day/night). The pool was lovely for a while until lumps pf poo started bobbing about (Kids ones). There where quite a few Spanish families there on their holidays and they can be very noisy and they stay in groups (Took over the pool). The Sun whilst we was there was very strong (African Sun they call it) I would advise sun factor 50 to start for all the family (you will get a tan depends how long you stay for) we ended up on factor 15 before we left and had a good tan. Families - To be honest it was like the Jeremy Kyle show mixed with Butlins and Benidorm !. We did meet some lovely people which made our last couple of days brilliant (Thank you). Overall - I was informed the site was a 2 star however I would give it a 1(My opinion). Advise - Spend a little more and stay elsewhere until it improves. I would go back to Gran Canaria but not here...... Oh before I forget they had cock roaches and had to call in the pest people before we left (Bloody big ones)

this is a truthfull review and i have to say yes i only paid very little for ten days with 2 kids and 2 adults but hated it awful, first day i got there was like faulty towers the reception our room was 86 right next to reception room ok, hairs on floor , what looks like to be sick up there door in the bathroom,, ants everywhere, even had a nasty cockrach in the night we got back on the wall in the living area, rooms are very hot you can hire a fan for 10 euros for 7 days there rubbish cost less than a tenner to buy. i went self catering i was going to upgrade to all inc for 19 euros a day pp, had a walk round first seen a nasty pond that stunk right next to the restaurant food, put me off, the food looked disgusting every single english person i spoke to complained the food was rank, a friend was sick all night because she had been drinking pina colarda from there to find it was bottle stuff and out of date, theres no entertainment only karaoke on a monday for 2 hours and bingo as and when in the week, the spanish tend to hog the sun loungers and the pool and even started fighting last week and causing trouble and police arrived at the hotel . Pool is ok water is grim and tiles fallen off every where, if you want tv its 2 euros a day and 5 deposit you get bbc one and horror channel and thats it rest in spanish. theres 2 shops there a good along the road the spar and also next to the spar is a nice pizza takeaway place, we spent most of our time in playa del ingles wish to god we went there so much better everything there, yumbo centre is brillaint and you can get cheaper all inc there and better just wished i read the reviews before i booked this place. taxis 3 euros in the day to playa del ingles and 4 to 5 at night, so tenner a day and worth every penny . its a 45 min walk to beach in maspolmas nice walk we did a few times and got taxi back, we walked along maspolmas beach to playa del ingles but you will walk through a nude zone lol. theres a car hire place along the road to vista oasis dont use it , go to playa del ingles much cheaper . puerto rico is lovely place to go as well we hired a car to go there for the day, gran canaria it self is lovely but honeslty if you want to sit round a pool all day eat vile food and be bored and everything far away this place is for you , it nearly ruined my holiday but i made sure it didnt booked somewhere else this place ruins what gran canaria is all about

Room Tip: book somewhere else

Stayed at vista oasis bungalows on july 24th-31st, with my husband and two boys aged 8 and 2. We had no major issues, a little cause for concern here and there like ants in our bathroom, cold shower and poor quality food. On a positive note, maid service was prompt, pool was cleaned every morning and staff were friendly and spoke a little English. Breakfast meals were not bad, eadible at the most. We were half board so did not have lunch, but when I did see the lunch options all I seem to see was cheap burgers and hot dogs. Dinner one evening was a lovely chicken in a bbq sauce which we all loved....until I cut my last piece in half to se blood, veins etc- put me right off. My boys loved the pool, especially my 2 year old in the baby pool which was shallow enough for him to splash around in without me running after him every minute of the day.Maspolomas beach is a free, 10 min bus drive. And the water park Aqualand again 5 mins away, 5 euros in a taxi is VERY expensive- take a picnic! All in all we enjoyed our holiday, if you want a better quality experience in terms of luxury, food etc then pay a little more and stay elsewhere- this was an 'OK' hotel based on the price we paid.

Room Tip: We were in room 41- right opposite tennis court. no issues.

I've stayed here three times, if you want 5 Star you need to pay for it. Comfortable in a quiet area, restaurant OK you get what you pay for poolside area really nice. If you have mobility difficulties. The bungalows are on a hill

Just back a few days ago and for the first time ever I am glad to be home. I've been going to Gran Canaria for the last 5 years and have never experienced anything like it.

Rooms are fine apart from the lumpy beds and pillows, threadbare holey towels and sheets. Lack of air con - had to hire fans for the room which was 50 euros. Couldn't leave windows or patio door open as had a bad experience during the night with a cat!! This would not be good if you have a baby with you!!

Lack of entertainment and what entertainment there was it was poor and for the Spanish holiday makers. Don't play the bingo - this is a con!! Every other place I've been to all the money goes in the pot for the bingo - not at this place - 8 euro for a line and 30 euro for a full house - where was the rest of the money going!!!

The Spanish had at least 10 to 15 per bungalow. Were partying all night long. Quite a few families asked to be moved because of this. They were very aggressive. Witnessed quite a few families being harassed by the Spanish round the pool. Really felt sorry for 1 family. Management didn't give a damn. Staff need to smile more!! Food - well, ok for the first week but then we couldn't eat it the second week, and we are not fussy eaters!!!

However, Playa De Ingles and Maspalomas are lovely resorts and costs about 5 euros each way in a taxi. yumbo Centre was a laugh and a must to visit. Met some lovely people and we made our own entertainment.

Pool could do with a good clean and tiles replaced. A scuba diver was there a few nights in the pool fixing the tiles. The pool area itself could do with a good hose down as could the sunbeds (they were filthy and never cleaned),

Alright if your going for a week, but a fortnight in this place was just too long.

We paid £2,200 for 2 adults and a child. There is no way we got value for money!! However, I can't fault Jet2 = flights and transfers were brilliant.

Word of warning - if you're all inclusive, the day you leave, they ask for your bands back at 12 noon. Not good if it's a night flight that you have. We argued that when we arrived it was after 11 at night and didn't get anything to eat. We got to keep the bands. Don't know why cause we didn't eat there for the last 5 days of the holiday. We either ate out or bought soup and bread to make in the apartment.

Room Tip: near to reception area - quieter

The Vista Oasis is quite cheap, actually it’s very cheap so as expected it’s not the Hilton it’s not a 5 Star hotel so dont expect it. What it is though is brilliant value for money and it all you need for a self-catering family holiday in Gran Canaria. The bungalow is basic but clean and comfortable, twin bedroom and a sitting room with twin settee/beds. There’s a two ring hob, cups, plates, a fridge, shower and a toilet everything you could want on a family holiday really. It’s away from the town and beach which some people seem to think was a problem but that’s exactly why we chose it, it’s lovely and quiet at night, there are no noisy bars, club’s, tribute singers or Karaoke past 11pm but there is plenty of transport, some of it free for getting about if you do fancy venturing away from the hotel. The locals in the area and in the shops and the small Grills and Restaurants were really very friendly. In the rooms there’s no air-con (it’s cheap to stay here remember) and being as you are in Gran Canaria (just of the coast of Western Sahara) it gets quite hot so that’s not much of a surprise but be aware. Apparently you have to pay extra for a TV and a toaster, though I don’t know what sort of person goes on holiday and just watches TV eating toast. Watching TV was the last thing I wanted to do and there are other foods in the world to eat other than toast, and I didn’t eat at the hotel so I can’t pass comment on the food. The pool area gets quite busy in the day but we managed to find somewhere to sit every time we went there even if it wasn’t always in the best spot. The staff we did encounter were helpful and friendly and all spoke better English than most of the staff you find in British hotels, and certainly better than I speak Spanish! Compared to how much we paid to stay at the Vista Oasis it was all in all brilliant value for money can’t fault it at all.

We have just returned from a week AI at the vista oasis , on seeing reviews before we went I was a bit apprehensive but when we got there was pleasantly surprised, the rooms were big enough for our family of 2 adults 2 young children , the pool is nice and looks cloudy because its not a fresh water pool and tastes a bit salty but splash pool is fresh water , around the pool area its nice and plenty of sun beds but get there early, food was ok for a 2 -3 key, only problem i found was that they only done chips and 1 pasta dish maybe they should add another option, but we ate out a couple of nights anyway, it was always easy to order drinks at the bar and they didnt mind giving you more than 1 at a time. To be honest for the money we paid in high season was only about £200 more than s/c so think we had a good deal.

The hotel is about a 10 minute taxi into town approx 3-4euros and about the same to aqualand water park which is fantastic if you love slides and pools but is a bit pricey 65euros for our family with a 12discount flyer given to us on arrival at the airport (well worth looking out for the ladies handing them out)

Would i return here probably not due to its location I would probably go back to puerto rico where most hotels are closer to the centre and beach, but on saying that if the price was right i might be tempted.
Dont be put off by bad reviews, the staff were friendly and we didnt come across anyone that was rude, and if your looking for somewhere in a quiet location then this is ideal but fussy eaters may want to go self catering.

Room Tip: we was in 123 which is away from the pool area so less noise, it was sunny until about 4 pm on terra...
