“4* its not!!”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

I’ve certainly never come across a 4* where the entertainment each night was bingo! We were extremely disappointed as soon as we were shown to our tired looking bungalow where the ‘garden view’ (ie the path next to a tiny patch of artificial grass between bungalows) could only be viewed by opening the frosted bathroom window. Our view from the front was across waste land onto the road.
The sink was overrun with ants every day; the floor/tile edges were grubby and in need of freshening up; fresh towels were often dirty, torn and/or stained; the bath was missing a plug; the loo brush was truly disgusting; the cheap tin peddle bin didn’t work and the replacement provided was just as bashed and battered as the one taken away; the 2-pin electrical socket in the bathroom was approx. 6” over the sink so v. dangerous especially with children; the blind on the back door came off the hinge when we tried to use it; the ‘double’ bed was in fact 2 v. old and cheap single mattresses covered with plastic that had simply been pushed together and covered with 2 single sheets so they constantly moved apart without any effort; no tea or coffee making facilities in the room not even any water; the restaurant constantly ran out of teaspoons and would simply tell us to take a dessert spoon to stir our coffee; when we asked for a bottle of wine displayed on a table by the entrance (which we said we would pay for as we were constantly being reminded “……..that’s not included”) we were told it wasn’t available and the bottle was only for decoration; the drinks didn’t seem to contain any alcohol at all and were obviously local and not the well-known brands which we had to pay extra for and were cleverly placed facing across the other side of the bar opposite to the cheaper bottles above the waiter’s head where we and most others would be standing; we were made to queue like children just inside the restaurant door while waiting for a table to become free. The tables were bare except for a knife, fork, serviette and plastic flower; water was never offered and we had to either go to the bar outside and order our own drinks or wait until the waiter had finished serving the bigger paying drinks orders and attempt to catch his eye; the food was very basic and the same most nights; only once did they produce mash potatoes (to our great excitement) otherwise we had to make do with chips, chips and chips; a lot of the dishes looked familiar to what was on offer the previous night so we are fairly certain they are recycling most of their food; they charge 20 Euros + 30 Euros refundable deposit for wifi; it was free at reception but we had to sit outside as there were no seats in the tiny reception area; we checked out of our bungalow as required at midday and our luggage was stored in a cupboard but when we came to leave that evening and asked for somewhere to change out of our swimwear, we were pointed towards the single cubicle toilet with a constantly wet floor that serves the whole pool/bar area. We said this was really not suitable and were shown to an empty bungalow. We made it clear as soon as we were shown to our bungalow that “this is most certainly not 4* and we are very disappointed and would certainly not return or recommend it to anyone. We complained about the fact we should have had a ‘garden view’ but were told they were full so could not move us anywhere.
All in all a dreadful place which I suspect is being run on a shoestring in order to simply make as much profit as possible out of new customers, as I can’t imagine anyone would want to go back!

We were here from March 4 to 17th (2014) and the main reason why we came, to find the sun, was here in abundance. Before the 7th, there were clouds in the sky, but afterwards it was sun and all-blue sky from 9am to 6pm. This is a very good place to sunbathe: plenty of beds around the pool and good space around the bungalows. These residences are very well done, with a 6 foot bed, large TV, large bathroom with bath and shower, a number of openable windows, and very good daily maid service; they mop the floor, change the linen and towels and tidy-up; and they look good in their white uniform. Having said all that (and clearly justifies a four-star rating at the accommodation side) I am afraid that the rest of the place just creeps in to a two-star.

On the matter of all-inclusive, I am not a fan. I don't want to run this down too much because some people like it; especially Scandinavians and Germans. I feel sympathetic with the Head Chef who has to cater for 200 diners in one go, to a restricted budget. But I have to say that the offering has more to do with quantity rather than quality. One night there was a pan of brown-coloured rice, a few prawns and a total lack of fish: a paella! The fruit juices were watered-down. The so-called steak cooked on the grill was so thin that you could hardly tell it was beef.

However, I quite enjoyed the fried eggs and bacon for breakfast. I wish that their breakfast table-laying had more sense. Good that they laid a new white tablecloth for each dining group; one morning ours was soaking wet! They were not ironed. The table was laid with a cup placed usually on a tea plate, no saucer, or vice-versa. I went from the table for a tea-plate. Even though there was sugar on the table, and good coffee available from a machine, there was no laid teaspoon. And even though most people had the scrambled or fried egg, only one knife was on the table; so if you had toast (from the slowest, strangest toasting machine you've ever seen) or a buttered bread roll you had to find a fresh knife yourself. This is not four-star manner, even though the waiters were well-presented. The tables were too close together. One morning my wife turned up for breakfast at 10.22 (it closes at 10.30am) the waitress became quite rude, waving her arms and refusing to serve her. Not much friendly style there.

Some people go there for the beer. We observed one man with his wife downing one pint of beer after another. And perhaps the 'entertainment' was to some people's taste. Personally, I do not want to play bingo on holiday. Neither do i want to see tacky dancing with a man (?) wearing a sparkling jock-strap

The large swimming pool was cold. On March 9th we noticed only two swimmers in it all day. It is a pity that the management do not invest in a heater so that this pool can be enjoyed by all.

There are no restaurants nearby. You have to take a taxi, which are 4E to the lighthouse in Maspolamas, with some excellent, and not too expensive restaurants, a short walk t by the up-market shops to the right. The pizza and pasta in the Italian (very popular) were good and average price. In another location, the Chinese 'Bamboo Garden' was very good, and reasonable: try the duck with orange at around 9E.

Southern Gran Canary is good value for sun-seekers in March. Do not go to the north of the island, such as Las Palmas; the weather there is quite different; cool and cloudy mostly.

Room Tip: Mostly allocated, no choice. They are all OK; semi-detached; quite spaced apart. Arranged in three...

One way to sum this place up Faulty towers meets Benidorm, it was amusing. Don't expect more than a 2 star accommodation even though the staff work very hard to keep it clean, the bungalows are spacious but we had mould in the bathrooms around the tiles, the beds are really hard and covered in thick plastic sheets which make you sweat and the air con is very feeble. It seems very short staffed and although the staff are not rude the do like to have very long chats with each other even though their guests are waiting. All inclusive is only from 11am to 11pm and anything outside these times is chargeable. The food us ok but very repetitive and we ended up going out to eat about 5 times mainly to get away from the boredom and the awful entertainment. I would recommend The Oul Triangle about a 20 min walk in Playa Del Inglis it's a very lively Irish pub with live music also Melonaras is a good place to go for a meal loads of restaurants. If your looking for the Sun then you can't fault Gran Canaria, but would not recommend thus place

Short break booked at the last minute and got a good all inclusive price and the place was very good.

Accommodation is clean and ideal, the staff friendly and the facilities as described.
I read some reviews about slow check in, no free wifi, average food etc., but we had none of the above... Wifi is free up at reception, but pay in your room.

Location is ok, if you don't like to walk you will probably want to use the free hotel bus or taxi (which are cheap) but walking you have maspalomas beach 30mins; yumbo 30mins

Although this hotel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere it has so many positives this is outweighed. The whole hotel is spotless, maid service daily in the rooms which are roomy and comfortable. The pool and surrounding area is lovely, fairly quiet when we were there, not too many children. The food was very good there was always a large selection from salads to pasta and always a couple of specials which were cooked to order. The staff with one exception (a very grumpy and miserable female) were very nice and helpful. Adolpho who was suffering a cold was exceptional despite being under the weather. The entertainment led by Fransciso and Miguel was basic but a lot of fun, and there were visiting shows 2 or 3 time. Would not hesitate to revisit and probably will.

Room Tip: The rooms numbered 100 to about 125 were around the pool although all rooms were convienient to all...

We stayed here for 5 nights.
Pleasantly surprised, great weather and definitely good value.
The cleaners work extremely hard and we left a tip at the end of our stay....
Free bus to Maspalomas or Playa del Inglis......
Bungalows overlooking golf course were the best.
Good pools and food was pretty good ...especially breakfasts.
Popular with Germans and Scandanavians and English.
Maspalomas and Melanoras are the best places on the Island for shops, restaurants
and beach.

Where else can you get in tan in February !!
Certainly would recommend Jardin Dorado.

Room Tip: they are all good bungalows....choose the inner ring to be near pool . outer ring are more private...

We didn't know what to expect after reading good and bad reviews. We just bit the bullet and booked it. What a great decision we made.
The bungalows are set out really well so it isn't far to walk to the pool, restaurant and bar.
The staff are great. In particular: José, Jaeray (Sid) Mr Angel and Maria :)
The entertainment team try their best with the space given outside the restaurant. They're a good laugh!
The food was good. Everyday there was something fresh being cooked for us to try.
We caught the free bus into town, which I imagine gets busy in the summer. We walked back, which was a lovely walk. Took us about 40 minutes.
We have decided we would definitely go back to this hotel.
After getting home, we quickly missed each other and the hotel, staff and the sun!
Book this place, don't let it slip through your hands!

Room Tip: Our group stayed in 125, 127 and 316. All rooms the same. The time of year meant all rooms were quie...
