We have just returned from a weeks stay. We booked through travel soon.com, self catering, and paid £550. On arrival reception was welcoming, and initial impressions good. We were told where our bungalow was and off we went. The bungalow was nice, not huge, but clean and nicely decorated. A nice LCD tv is the lounge area, plenty of storage in the bedroom and a double shower. The showers are amazing by the way, always hot water and plenty of pressure. Once we freshend up we went for a reccy. The pool area was nice, 3 pools and plenty of sun lounges, (which are tied down so you can't move them too much). The pool bar, looks like a temporary building!! Happy hour is 4pm to 5pm so you get 2-4-1. €2.85 for a 1/3 of a pint! We had a drink and listened to conversations, as we wanted to find out where the nearest supermarket was. It was a challenge trying to find someone English. The majority of clients were Scandinavian or German. Anyway we found a couple that had been there a while, and told us the supermarket was a 10 min walk. Not the nearest then. Not when you had to buy some water, cans, drinks etc.. Ie heavy items! The shopping precinct is ok, there is a very nice steak house there. There is a small shop in the hotel but it is expensive and choice is limited. Talking of food, the facility does have a buffet restaurant. €6 for breakfast and lunch, and €12 for dinner. Breakfast is ok, boiled eggs, or fried or scrambled, but not all at the same time. Bacon everyday, some sort of sausages bread, jam, cereal and a poor selection of fruit. One day I had tinned pineapple!! But for €6 it's ok I guess. We only ate once in the evening, and there was 2 types of meat and fish, potatoes and salad. Now the bed is a stiff cheap mattress you can feel the springs through! And not enough pillows. Pool sun loungers are ok, but buy a lilo. The beach is great and a must visit. A complementary bus runs frequently, but the walk is nice too. It's 2km and takes about 30 mins. Just follow the dry canal. Unfortunately, we both had a tummy bug after 4 days so the latter part of our holiday was marred by sickness. Overall, a nice quiet resort, and great value. Just needs comfier beds and a nearer supermarket. Oh and if you don't mind being in the minority bring British then cool.

Reception staff - excellent - very friendly and allowed us to use reception phone to call for our transfer home
Rooms - very clean and nice size for two people - plenty of utensils to do a bit of cooking
Really nice patio area with table and chairs and sun beds - the way the bungalows are positioned means that you have plenty of privacy
Area- very quiet - 30 mins walk to beach but courtesy bus twice in morning, returning three times in the afternoon - Not far from Faro 2 which has a couple of really good restaurants and very reasonable.= recommend Broncemar 2
Swimming Pool - two really good size pools - always a free bed to lie on - subtle music playing- nice and relaxing to read your book or have a good swim.
Would I return - absolutely - really chilled out
Food in hotel - cant comment

Room Tip: As the bungalows are in a square, some of then get sun in the morning or in the evening so if you ca...

Myself and my mother spent a week here from 14/9/11 to 21/9/11, and we both agree that this place was lovely, and FAR better than we had expected, having been told it was only a 1* by our travel agent and after reading some reviews. But - I do have to say, we found no fault at all with the facilities/food/pools/bungalows etc. It is quite clear on here that those who have put a negative review have gone expecting a 5* resort or similar, or are the sort of people who ni-pick everything.

When we arrived at the bungalows we were pleasantly suprised with how clean and well-presented they were. They are very well lit at night time. You have your own patio area with sun loungers and table and chairs, with an outside light for the evenings. The interiors were clean and also i believe recently refurbished. (advise to book for rio club II as they are newer). A maid came in every day apart from Sunday and they day prior to us leaving, which was more than adequate. The staff, from the men who clean the pool, to the maids, the bar staff and the receptionists, are all VERY FRIENDLY and couldn't do enough to help us! Special mention has to go to Maitr (not sure how you spell it), but she was the lovely lady doing all the activities and also seemed in charge of the restaurant in the evening. She was also very friendly and had the hard task of getting people to participate in the evenings activities (something every night apart from sunday) as there was only a few guests while we were on holiday.

The pools (x3) were cleaned every morning with an army of maids mopping and sweeping the outside areas and wiping down the sun beds. The bungalows had a free shuttle bus (new coach) down to Maspalomas beach - 2 in a morning to go to the beach and 3 in an afternoon returning.

The food was lovely. I'm being honest and saying it wasn't fabulous - BUT only because it ISN'T a 5* restaurant. The standards far exceeded what we were expecting, and although food wasn't available 24/7, it wasn't a problem, because in all honesty, there's more to do on holiday than eat all day!!!! Breakfast was a buffet 8am - 10am. Lunch was bar meals by the poolside 11am -3.30pm. and Evening meal was also buffet style 6pm - 8.30pm. AT ALL TIMES the food was replenished and well presented. ok, the desserts weren't out of this world, but after trying all the various items of mains, there was hardly any room in my tummy for ice cream! Basically, there was enough choice to cater for everyone (and quite clearly I put on the stone that I lost before I went away!).

We didn't have air conditioning as we didn't need it although the weather was just amazingly hot (not a cloud in the sky!) - but it is available for 20 euros for the week. We didn't hire the safe either as we didn't have any valuables- only a small amount of money and our documents which we kept on us at all times - and quite honestly i did try andlose my passport so that i could stay longer - but no one wanted it! (mental not to myself - get a better picture next time!)

The only down point that I can say is that on saturday and sunday a few local families appeared (from the capital of grand canaria) with many kids in tow, who were quite noisy, but that is no reflection on the hotel (they have to earn an income right?!?!?) just a reflection on the Spanish from out of town. But it was a case of it being their holiday too.

All the other guests were very friendly, there was a genera feeling of well-being and enjoyment. We really did meet some lovely people there. All of which have said that they would definatley go back next year, and all of whom would rccommend to family and friends. I myself am doing the same. In fact, when i have finished this review I am going to e-mail Rio Club Maspalomas and thank them for a wonderful holiday!!! For the price we paid (£300 each, all inclusive, for 7 nights, including all flights, transfers and luggage costs) i am equally happy and impressed.

If you are thinking of holidaying here......enjoy ;-)

Room Tip: If you go for the Rio Club Maspalomas II option, the bungalows have recently been refurbished, insid...

Myself and my partner stayed her for a week earlier this month. Bungalow plenty of room for two, but must be too small for more. Rooms very clean. Warning make sure you take euros with you as you could have probelms changing sterling, we changed some at the hotel and the rate was .89 euros to the pound, and then they take 3% surcharge. this makes things more expensive. Only other problem you had to pay for a kettle even if you were self catering. would visist again but would take euros with us.

Only go to this place if you go self catering as the hosts here have no idea how to cater food. We have just come back after a week all inclusive, the choices of food was limited the presentation and food itself was poor at worse and ok at best. There wasnt none stop availability of food etc like other 3 star hotels here they seemed to very cost conscious in this respect. An example of this is that cakes were available between 3-4pm, at other hotels these would be displayed in the dining room, here though you had to ask and they fetched one for you, and of course the cakes would make an appearance as part of the not very wide choice of deserts at dinner (usually a jelly, a blamange, fruit or ice cream, if you are quick enough to get down to the dinner early if not im afraid once theyre gone theyre gone. Good quality accommodation lovely gardens and nice pool. Quiet location. I would return if I was looking for self catering but avoid any other arrangement
