“Really enjoyed our holiday”
Reviewed 23 December 2011

This was our first time at an Riu Hotel and we were very impressed by the standards set by the RIU Club Hotel Meloneras.
Firstly can I say we found it very hard to find fault with this hotel .The hotel throughout was spotless in all areas but we did find the room was rather small the double bed also was on the small side so ask for a twin room as I think there would have been more space in the twin rooms although plenty of cupboard and drawers etc TV / fridge /safe etc all included in the price but no tea coffee fascilities. The bathrooms were fine with plenty hot water etc good shower / hairdrier etc but thought the towels were needing replaced with new ones as they were very hard although clean. The food in the restaurant was excellant the pool snack bar and the pool bar really were fantastic one of the best served pool areas for lunch/snacks and drinks we have been in all over europe so well done RIU. Very pleased with the pool area loads of sunbeds and plenty of space around the pools and the gardens. All the staff were very helpful and extrememly pleasant and the hotel was run to a very high standard.
One thing that we felt really let the hotel down was the evening entertainment which was very poor I am not blaming the animation team as the kids worked their socks of from morning till late at night but surely a hotel of this high standard can provide a better standard of entertainment .Kids miming every night to music with the same dance routines etc was very very boring which was a shame as we saw two first class shows in the two weeks we were there the showbar lounge was fantastic and was well equiped to put on far better entertainment for the guests so come on RIU please take note and do something about this or the general public will go elsewhere which would be a huge shame.
Melonores ..... the area around the hotel was quiet but had a lovely promenade along the seafront to maspalomes sand dunes and there was a great bus service with buses that ran to anywhere on the island which we used all the time so very easy to get around.
Would I recommend this hotel .....definately yes ......but hope the entertainment improves.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a garden view was worth it xxxx

This was our 6th visit to this hotel since 2003. Until this time we could not fault anything about this hotel. However, things are not what they were.

As we had been before we knew where in the hotel we wanted our room to be. An email was sent with the request. They took no notice at all and allocated a room nowhere near our preference. When this was pointed out they immediatly moved us. Either the request didn't get through or they took no notice. The Reception staff do remain very helpful and pleasant.

The rooms are getting a little tired now but remain more than adequate for your needs. Clean and well seviced at all times. Bathrooms are big enough and there is always hot water.

The main dining room offered excellent food. It may be my imagination, but there didn't seem quite as much choice. However, you will never come out of there hungry. The desserts have certainly improved.

Bar staff continue to work tirelessly and you never have to wait for your drink order.

We did not see the Entertainment as it seemed more or less the same as every other year and that was never much good. Anyway, a walk after the meal was needed!!!!

We were told that 90% of the clientel was German. It was christened the German Republic of Riu. And it showed. Waiting your turn is not in their genes at all, and they seem to think that only they should be there. Several other nationalities were making the same comments.

There is no need to be put off going by any of these comments. We shall certainly be there again next December. Maybe I am expecting too much now!!

Just back from a fabulous week’s stay at the Riu Club Hotel Gran Canaria.

We stayed there last year for the same week and enjoyed it so much that we decided to return for a second time. This Hotel is fantastic and ticks all the boxes if you’re looking for a relaxing, casual stay at an all-inclusive hotel .

For those who have not yet tried an all-inclusive then this must be the one that sets the standard for other 4 star hotels to follow.

The Hotel is impressive with comfortable spacious accommodation, beautiful well-kept grounds , excellent food, superb entertainment and courteous , friendly service , and with a location that’s second to none - Straight on the sea front promenade, with a small sandy bay a short stroll to the right and the shops and sand dunes of Maspalomas, a leisurely 10 minute stroll to the left. (Unlike some all-inclusive hotels which tend to be situated in out of the way locations)

This year, our family group, stayed in two apartments in the hotel grounds away from the main building, and both featured a comfortable bedroom, spacious lounge and garden terrace. (7127 & 7128)

We’re already planning to return next December, which says it all.

just got back from a very relaxing time at the riu club hotel mainly due to the staff at riuland who look after the kids I have just the 1 age 6 and she was entertained most days by the girls in the kids club Tracy, Elena and Iga all of which were top notch my little girl was sad to leave because she loved them all my personal favourite was Tracy just because of her seemingly limitless energy and enthusiasm for her job sadly she was ill the second week of our stay but Iga and Elena did a very good job as we’ve been here before the hotel was as we were expecting clean tidy with very helpful and friendly staff our cleaner Fatima was very nice did an excellent job and kept my little one entertained with her towel sculptures ( thank you Fatima )

Booked this hotel after my daughter and other friends had given excellent reports. We were two couples in early 60s but very young at heart. Booked through Thomson and arrangements could not have been better. I will try not to repeat everything that all the 4 & 5 star givers have already stated. Let me just say, do not bother reading the lower star ratings as they are not representative. I will emphasise that the food, drinks, cleanliness everywhere, staff, service, rooms, entertainment, location and grounds were excellent. One local who visits the hotel regularly for coffee stated that “whilst it may not be the prettiest hotel in the area (actually it’s lovely) it has the friendliest staff and best service”.

This is not a hotel for youngsters who seek a nightclub style atmosphere but is ideal for couples or singles of any age with or without young children. Access for those in wheelchairs etc is superb and there were a few people who had rented a mobility scooter from Sol Mobility like Steve from Leicester states and they were able to access all areas with ease. We were fortunate to have a superb and talented Animation Team who during the day hosted kids games and crafts, pool activities and games like French Boules , air gun shooting and much more. At night they put together some fantastic shows at 9pm if there were no other acts booked. Let me say that we made sure we had finished our evening meal in time to enjoy the entertainment.

Food – no matter what your diet, you will always find something you can enjoy. My wife is a celiac on a gluten free diet and had no problems in any of the restaurants.

Drinks – As mostly red wine drinkers, what was provided was totally acceptable. I’m not sure the white wine would be to everyone’s taste though I did not try it. The rose’ was quite popular. The beer was typical of Spanish resorts and quite refreshing. A range of spirits is offered but find out what named brands they have and ask for them. The Larios Gin is better than the basic brand, Bacardi Rum and a few known named whisky brands also on offer together with some lovely though sometimes weak cocktails. Water is freely available in 1 litre bottles and you have a fridge in the room.

Rooms – very comfortable and clean. I recommend like others paying that bit extra for a garden view – not that you will spend much time there or on the balcony but it is worth it. Our only gripe was that the air conditioning and ceiling fan do not cool the rooms as much as we would have liked. It could still be quite hot during the night. In hindsight we should have taken this up with the management and probably would have done if we had been there for more than a week. That is my only reason for marking the room and sleep quality lower.

Finally the location. It could not have been better. For those who like a stroll, the lovely sea front promenade accessed directly from the hotel grounds is ideal. It is only a short walk to the shopping area where most things can be purchased. This immediate sea front has a rocky shore but walk a little further and there is a sandy beach and a dune area. About 500 metres along that beach lies a busy nudist area which has become quite a spectator area for those not wishing to pose with the tanned naturists.

All inclusive in this hotel means all inclusive. Almost all day and night and if you do not have an early departure, the all inclusive continues until the minute you leave – not when you vacate your room like some hotels. Rooms have to vacated at 11am but if you wish to continue sunbathing, swimming etc, there are excellent purpose built courtesy rooms showers and all the accoutrements you will need – shampoo, towels etc.

I can’t recommend this hotel enough. For its star rating it is excellent and we will be going back.

Room Tip: Book a garden view on a top floor.

Beautiful hotel and stunning grounds. We stayed here for a week in October and the weather was lovely!!

We had a Villa near the seafront which catered for 2+ adults or a family as it had the seperate bedroom and living area with sofa bed and extra camp bed if needed, also the added bonus of all the cooking facilities. There are several pools all very nice - cean and tidy! There is a daytime activities programme all day every day near enough.

Food: The main restaurant is huge with a wide selection of soups/salads. There is your normal pizza, pasta and chips etc for people who don't like to venture out of their comfort zones. There are fish dishes and several meat dishes - with the occassional carvery!! There is a 24 sports bar too - however the only thing you can grab to eat from there is a burger or a hot dog!!

The location isn't the best, but easy walking distance to a few bars/restaurants but the main place to be is Playa Del Ingles and Maspalomas for night life etc about 5 euros in a taxi to Playa del ingles

All in all - I would return to the hotel - just the location that lets it down (perfect if your wanting a hotel based relaxing holiday)

Our holiday started badly before we left, unfortunately our travel agent had ceased trading and i was hounded and chased for proof of payment by thompsons constantly for two weeks before we left, even though they had already issued us tickets and accomodation voucher way before we left.
On the flight out the thompsons air hostesses were rude and obnoxious uninterested on the way back they were the opposite happy and helpfull really great, like a different airline.
When we arrived at the hotel we were greated well and cases taken to the room, first impressions of the hotel was old and tired looking, our room had an old tatty sofa bed and chair in it and the beds were incredibly uncomfortable.
The weather was great 28 29 celsius, i always make sure the room is airconditioned before i book, the air con was not on in the room and i was boiling hot could not sleep for two nights the hotel said it was at the hoteliers discretion and when i spoke to thompsons they said that i should have read the small print in the back of the brochure where it mentions, in my oppinion this in its self is disgusting and thompsons did not deliver what they promised.
We were all inclusive Myself , My Wife and our two year old daughter the cost of the week was £2019.00 which i know is not a lot compared to what you can pay however 4 stars should stand for something, it certainly was not reflected in the food, Breakfast good,Lunch salads same virtually ever day hot courses rubbish more like the sort of food Jamie Oliver has tried to have banned in schools chicken nuggets, reformed chicken drummers fried in breadcrumbs fish bites french fries tasteless paella overcooked pasta, dinner the same no real variation, however drinks good and red wine good.
Nice main pool but we have a two year old and the baby pool was dreadfull it has a building made like a chocolate cake with a slice out where the door is it looks like a public toilet on a run down council estate also graffiti on areas by pool awful, horrible climbing frame, no thought for this area.
Would we go back to this hotel or chain or holiday company NO!!!!
Maspolomas is lovely great area great location lots of much better hotels, i am sure we will return there liked the look of the lopesan hotels.
If you want a great all inclusive go to the bahia principe in costa adeje tenerife amazing food clean immaculate.
