“Fantastic Holiday”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

This hotel is absolutely fantastic. It has had a complete refurbishment and it has certainly been well worth it. The hotel from the outside has a wow factor, it is clean and the gardens are perfectly kept. We arrived late at night and we were checked in no problem. Our room had been allocated in the main block accessed through the lifts/stairs in the main reception. We had room 3082. The views from this room are brilliant! Full garden and sea view along with view of pools and also a very clear view of the terrace and the outside singers.
The entertainment outside on the terrace goes on until 11pm which was fine. There is also shows every night in the salon bar.
There is a nightclub 'bubbles' which is open until around 1.30am, next to salon bar which we spent a couple of evenings in.
Restaurants: There are 4.
Las Dunas - Main buffet Restaurant, no reservation needed
Kaiko - Asian buffet restaurant, reservation needed - Dinner Only
Atlantico - Grill restaurant, reservation needed, although open at breakfast and lunch and no reservation is needed
El Patio (next to Las Dunas) ...So pleased I entered this little restaurant (no res needed) same food as Las Dunas....however no where near as busy and more of a relaxed atmosphere. We spent the majority of the evenings in El Patio. Visted Asian once.
Had lunch in Atlantico everyday along with breakfast, lovely sea views and not as busy. The choice of food is ample and the food is of a good quality.
Next to the nightclub is 'after hours' opens after 11pm and you can help yourself to a selection of food, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs and drinks, we enjoyed having a little snack before bed!
Sundbeds- plenty of them and no need to rush down we always found some around 9am everyday. Pools are great, correct temp. Infinity pool by purple bar is an adults only area and has in pool sun loungers, very nice!
Wifi is free in reception for 90 mins per day. For the week it is 20euros, for a day it is 5euros. I purchased a week and it seemed to keep kicking me out so keep the receipt for it on you. The machine where wifi is purchased is to the left of reception by the computer areas. Very handy.
In room is a complimentary safe which you set a code for yourself, very good! Room was clean and spacious. The power showers are the best ever!!!! also when the head is twisted you can get all the different settings even a mist one! Room had a fan and air con.
The staff at this hotel are absolutely second to none. All acknowledge you, smile and are professional and efficient.
We accessed the promenade at the back if the hotel through the back gate area, easier than walking all the way around the area.
Resort - this resort is full of designer shops, jewelry shops, perfume shops and restaurants. This would not be a resort for anyone wanting a lively sort of night time. Playa del Ingles - lively part- is around an hour walk away and we walked to it along the beach, passing the sand dunes along the way.
Excursions can be booked through Thomson/First Choice (who we traveled with) and there are plenty.
The moonlight cinema is quite quirky where you watch films 'under the stars' outside with blankets and table service.
All in all this holiday was truly fantastic and I would classify it a 5 star. Will return and recommend.

Room Tip: 3081/3082/3083 very good views

If you've stayed at a Riu before you know pretty much what to expect - nice food and drink, and plenty of it, and comfy rooms. Here the rooms are very comfortable and my room was close to the beach so had a wonderful view. The staff were friendly and professional. I couldn't fault the food or drink. Entertainment I avoided but that was a personal choice. Location wise it is ban on the main stretch of beach in maspalomas and a nice walk to the dunes. There isn't much around the hotel itself so this isn't somewhere to stay if you want nightlife and don't mind getting a cab everywhere. Personally, I couldn't fault the hotel hoe than perhaps the price which was on the high side for a four star.

My family of 7 stayed at the Riu ClubHotel from the 22nd - 29th May. We had an evening flight so arrived quite late. Even though the late hour, we were still greeted nicely at the reception desk by the helpful and informative staff. As we needed 3 separate rooms we thought we may be spread across many different levels of the hotel but they kindly gave us 3 rooms all next door to one another. We were told we had a garden view room but were actually met with a beautiful garden and sea view room, nice touch.

All rooms were very big, with lots of storage, very handy if you love your clothes like I do. The beds were so comfortable and had power showers in the bathroom which was great. Showers sometimes abroad can be very weak but we were very happy about this. Air con and ceiling fan in rooms good. Fresh towels and bedding everyday if requested. Maid service good.

There are 3 pools to choose from. The main pool, the infinity pool and the children's one. As there were a lot of us, we expected to find difficulty in getting beds all together. We are not early risers in the slightest so were not going to be reserving beds at 7am like some guests. Most days we would not get to the pools until 11am but were always able to find 7 beds together so this was fab. The infinity pool had amazing views it so lovely but obviously overlooking the sea meant that it was so cold and windy! Only managed a quick 5 minute dip in there, gave me goose bumps! It was always quite dead in the infinity pool for swimming, maybe some pool heaters are an option? Lovely area to sunbathe though. Main pool has a lengths section and a ball games section. Not that this was applied by the lifeguards, though, as many O.A.P's were doing lengths in the ball games section and then dishing out dirty looks if they were splashed! Never mind.

Food overall was satisfactory. All the restaurants are buffet, including those that you have to book for at the reception desk. The Atlantico has grill nights or Canary nights. There's the Asian, the Italian and the main buffet restaurant. The food quality was OK in the main buffet but the same choices were served for lunch as they were for dinner. We have never had this at the all inclusives we have travelled to before. Of course some repeats from lunch, but not the entire selection! Usually more choice. We did end up eating out in the town for dinner twice during the week!

The drinks on the other hand were very good. I pretty much lived on Pina coladas and Mojitos for the entire week! The males enjoyed the beer. Staff are very heavy handed with the measures. We are talking half a glass of spirit and half a glass of mixer. Good if you are in the mood for drinking but not if its during the day time while having a casual drink. Make sure you ask for the named stuff. If you look behind the bar you will see the named spirits like Smirnoff vodka and Beefeater gin, but we only got those if we asked for them. Other wise were served the local cheaper stuff. Beer, soft drinks, coffees, teas are on tap. Anything else you ask for at the bar.

Staff were excellent. Very polite and smiley. Always made a point of saying Ola when walking past or even the glass collectors made a point of saying it. Very happy to prepare drinks for you, even if you are requesting 7 pina coladas which take a longer time to prepare! Nothing was too much trouble.

Entertainment crew.. our family have never really been into evening entertainment on holidays to be honest. We stayed around one night to watch a Grease show which was painfully cringey to watch. It was only made funny because two of the girls costumes became entwined together while dancing and they just had to laugh it off, ha ha! None the less, the staff were very enthusiastic with the crowd and if you enjoy that sort of thing, well I'm sure it would of been OK.

We like to have a bit of an explore when we go abroad. On the back of the hotel was the promenade which was nice to have a stroll down but remember a cardigan for the evening - very windy. If you turn left out of the back of the hotel there are many restaurants and shops. The shopping mall has a perfume store selling real brands for very cheap! Much cheaper than duty free, definitely worth a visit. The beach was lovely and sand dunes fun to walk along. Be warned if you walk too far down the beach there is a nudist part, but we found that quite amusing. We walked so far down the beach trying to find water sports (never even saw any in the end) that we walked to Playa De Ingles which is 2 towns over! This part of Gran Canaria is more lively, with more pubs, clubs, bars and market stools to buy those expensive souvenirs ;)

We found a little gem in Meloneras while trying to find a boat to hire. It called the La Punta Yacht Club Pasito Blanco. Amazing Yacht club! 6 euros to get a taxi there from hotel. Taxi rank right outside front entrance of hotel. Sunbathe overlooking the sea, out of the way and just beautiful. 10 euros per sun bed and then there's the jetty you can lay on or use to walk down to get in the sea. Its a closed off section or snorkel with the many fish. Lovely little place, a lot of locals were going in there which is why we followed them. Bar and great food served there too. Try the alioli there - amazing!

Take a trip to the Moonlight cinema. Only 10 mins walk from the hotel. Reception will be able to direct, not difficult to find. Only movies in English and only outside cinema in Europe. Sofas with a button on that you press which brings a waitress over to order food. Pizzas, nachos, ice creams, milkshakes, the lot! Very cool place - visited it twice.

Overall, the hotel was lovely, everything you needed. Only improvement I would make would be on the food. Would revisit then. Rooms, staff, grounds, facilities and everything else were great though. Lovely stay and great holiday :)

Room Tip: Request higher floors to overlook the sea. Family stayed in rooms 2091, 2090 and 2089 beautiful room...

This hotel although fully refurbished last year, starts to show just a little wear, having said that we as a party of four found everything you could ask for in abundance, top brand named drinks, top quality food, nice rooms with showers you find it hard to drag yourself out of, the many pools including the amazing infinity pool were also five star. Down side, hotel in house entertainment left a lot to be desired, very very amateur, the worst part is the fact that you can't take your eyes of your bags around the childrens pool, my wife had her bag stolen from under her sunbed as did another woman we spoke to, in the hotels favour, as the room key was in the stolen bag they changed the lock within an hour, last point , the staff are excellent, nothing to much trouble. Well done.

Room Tip: The higher the better, great views of the ocean.

This is a first class hotel for all ages and all tastes in life, to be quiet or participate in some of the many activities in the complex. This is a well run hotel catering for all nationalities expecting a high standard of holiday.
The rooms are comfortable with plenty of storage space and a very good shower cubicle in the bathroom, and the beds are so very comfortable. The air conditioning is very effective.
The foods in the restaurants are superb meeting the requirements of every taste and diet, and are served at the correct temperature. The all inclusive package offers a full lunch time menu and it is equally as good as the evening menu. The Asian Restaurant is very tasty and has a good variety of spicy and tasty foods.
The staff in all departments of the hotel are super efficient and so very helpful and friendly. The hotel is so very, very clean and the restaurant is cleaned and the floor is washed after every meal. The staircases are brushed, scrubbed and then mopped, not a spec of dust or dirt anywhere in any part of the hotel.
On a Wednesday and Saturday mornings there is a market just outside Melonares (near the Ferris Wheel) and is a 5 Euro taxi ride away(the drivers know where the fare is going if asked for the market) and there are plenty of taxis waiting for the return journey. Also there is a clean café/bar which is well used by holidaymakers of all nationalities. We walked both ways to the market which is about three and a half miles each way. The market has a good variety of stalls and on a Saturday there is a section of fruits and veg stalls also some beautiful flower stalls. Lots of bargains of all kinds to be had.
We took the Thomson trip up to Las Palmas (all day trip) but were disappointed with the day out and do not recommend it, a waste of 46 Euros. We took the service bus from Faro Bus station to Playa Del Englise and that was 1.40 Euros each way per person and a taxi fare was just 6 Euros per trip, a cheap trip out.
The walk from the rear of the hotel is an absolute delight and we were lucky enough to see feeding dolphins in the bay on a few occasions. Look out for lizards in the area too and some can be as big as 2 foot six inches long and so very docile. Hoopoo birds are in the hotel grounds and in the grassed areas of the surrounding hotels and walkways.
This is our fourth visit to the hotel and we have already booked a holiday for next year, an absolute delightful place to stay.
