We had a lovely holiday at this hotel. A few pluses and minuses below – but we certainly enjoyed our stay.

There were a few things that niggled slightly, but nothing to stop us enjoying ourselves and I’m not sure they should be viewed as ‘negatives’ as such... but it’s only fair to mention them. These were:
- No one to take your luggage to your room – quite hard when you’re the farthest room from the reception and arriving at midnight, we were desperately trying to wheel our suitcases along the halls and up the stairs without make any noise but that was impossible! We heard others doing it most evenings.
- Adult pool is absolutely freezing – but it is gorgeous
- Main pools are full of children even though there is a large children’s pool. This is not a major problem at all, but just something to be aware of if you want to actually swim.
- The hotel is so large with so many staff we found we were served by someone different every single time. Again this is not a negative as such as the staff were all polite and friendly, just not a particularly personal service that we have found in other hotels.
- There wasn’t enough space in the rooms to store two suitcases which was a bit of an issue and involved us tripping over them quite a bit, but seeing as we weren’t in the room much we could get over this!

And a few positives to balance it all out!:
- The food was very good. Yes a bit repetitive but we couldn't complain about the quality. I found a few things quiet bland but certainly had enough to satisfy me. My fiance can be quite fussy with food and he loved it so that was good!
- The Asian restaurant was by far the best – we ate hear twice and absolutely loved it each time
- The evening entertainment was really enjoyable – yes admittedly it was cheesy at times, but we found the entertainment team hilarious and there was a brilliant acrobatics act one night that was simply amazing and I would have paid money to see.
- The all-inclusive drinks and cocktails were really nice and there was plenty of choice
- The rooms were clean and modern and the shower was brilliant!
- The grounds were kept very clean
- Nice easily access to the path out by the sea which has a lovely walk either way – nice to stretch your legs now and then. And some good bargains to be had in the designer shops!

Overall I would recommend this hotel certainly, but it was not quite as good as I was hoping having read some other reviews. Again, I must stress this is nothing bad and nothing to stop you. We had an excellent deal to stay here so really and truly for value for money the hotel did well. I would just hope that the management would take the time to fix the niggles as its nothing major and would make a difference.

Room Tip: Face into the hotel - it's worth having a garden room as they are building the hotel next door

Returned to this hotel after a fantastic holiday last year and what a change in it.
Good Points
The hotel is lovely and spotlessly clean, the pools are fantastic especially the kids pool our 7 year old was never out of it.
The staff in the kids club are great especially Celia who remembered us from last year and was so nice to our wee one.
Staff are so friendly and not once did any of them walk by us without a 'Hola'
Rooms are very nice and the beds are so comfortable, we did request the room we got last year and even paid an extra £65 to try and get it but unfortunately we didnt get it, we were only a cpl of doors down but was not the same.
Excellent Location 5mins to supermarket which sells Irn Bru (thats for the Scottish people reading this and are like me and cant do without it for a week)and 10min walk to beach, restaurants and designer shops.
Bad Points
The food has certainly gone down hill from last year, Casseroles where you cut in to the meat and its still pink inside, Chicken Nuggets that I have no idea what was in them but it defo wasnt chicken maybe processed crap but no way were we letting our daughter eat them, Roast beef that you have to like blood red no alternative for people who like there food cooked. So basically it was pizza and pasta the whole week.
My man had an upset stomach the last few days of our holiday not sure whether it was the undercooked food or maybe lack of food... defo Not Good!!!
If your German you will be fine as I would say this year it was more catered for them.
The beer is so watered down we must have drank between 10-12 glasses a nite with no effect, my man went to the supermarket and bought some of the same brand and OMG what a difference in the taste and colour.
The Sun beds
It says in the booklet in your room you are not allowed to reserve the sunbeds... thats a joke!!!! Went down to the kids pool at 9.30 one morning and all the beds had towels on them... Not Good!!!
When you go all inclusive and the price it costs here you expect better, could not fault this hotel last year and really thought we had found a hotel were we could be happy returning to year after year...
So come on Clubhotel Riu Gran Canaria remember you have different nationalities in your hotel who like there food cooked and there beer not watered down and make us want to come back to this great hotel...

My boyfriend and I returned home at the end of July from an amazing 2-week holiday at the Riu Gran Canaria hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and the building itself was very impressive. We were lucky enough to get the highest and most central room, which overlooked the hotel grounds and the sea. The room was really nice and modern. It was cleaned every day and we were provided with new towels along with new bed sheets when we requested. Wifi is free to use in the reception area for 90mins, although the internet is not that quick! You can pay 20 euros for a week's use of wifi throughout the hotel, which seems good value, although we didn't need to use it that often so we just used the reception wifi.

The main pool is quite large, but we found ourselves getting slightly too cramped with families splashing around and you couldn’t get a proper length’s swim. We much preferred the infinity pool, which is adults only and overlooks the sea. Because it was so peaceful we ended up spending most of our days there. There were two pool bars that serve amazing alcohol and alcohol free cocktails; our personal favourites were the Pina Colada and Mojito!

Reserving our chairs by the infinity pool proved to be slightly difficult, and my boyfriend had to sometimes get up at 7.30am to reserve the best chairs. However this didn’t seem to faze us because we thoroughly enjoyed spending our days by that pool.

The hotel had four restaurants for dinner. Two provided a general variety of food that ranged from roast lamb to pizza and pasta. The other, Atlantico, was a grill restaurant overlooking the sea, where you could also eat breakfast and lunch, and we were really impressed with the quality of food being cooked freshly in front of us. The fourth restaurant was called Kaori, an Asian restaurant, and I was excited to see they offered sushi as well as the usual Chinese dishes. You had to book Atlantico and Kaori and we were alternating these every three days.

The animation team were friendly and would always say hello if you bumped into them. It was great that they didn’t walk round everyone’s sunbeds to force people to play games – we were just given a timetable when we checked in of all the sports and activities they were organising. My boyfriend was joining in with football, water polo, rifle shooting, table tennis and darts and by the end of the holiday they were sad to see us go!

They also provided the main entertainment in the hotel in the evenings, which included comedy nights, musical nights and even ‘crazy’ nights. The only disappointment was they were miming all the songs because they couldn’t sing! There is also entertainment at the outside bar from a man and woman who sang with a keyboard and guitar which we could hear from our balcony when we were getting ready for dinner.

The hotel’s location is a 10-minute walk from the beach and a further 5 from the sand dunes. You have to walk on a lovely promenade and on the way there are useful shops for both groceries and clothes. These came in handy for our souvenirs to take back home.

Yes there are building works being carried out to the hotel next door, however this did not affect our holiday at all. You could hardly hear any noise and they are near the end of the building works now.

Overall we had a lovely holiday at this hotel. We cannot fault the food in all of the restaurants, the staff and the entertainment. I would definitely recommend this hotel for couples.

Room Tip: Choose a garden view room on a high floor. These are the best rooms which then provide you with pool...

Sadly our recent holiday was spoilt within minutes of arriving by being allocated a room overlooking a building site. We immediately asked to be moved but were told by the manager that
only superior rooms were available until later in the week. He would move us to a superior room But only if we paid extra for the upgrade. I could'nt believe that they honestly expected us to pay extra for a room that didnt have a building site view. He wouldnt even agree to us having the upgrade until a standard room became available later in the week. Work started at 7.30 with plenty of noise so no lie in and no sitting on the balcony. Also found out that the only way to guarantee a sun bed was to go down before breakfast and 'bag one' with a towel. Even if you did this it was like sunbathing with a row of fish fingers packed tightly in the grill pan! About 20 cms between you and the next person. It reminded us of a 1970's sitcom of holidaying in Spain. The pool was not large enough for the number of guests being full to bursting most of the day.

Maybe a different experience going outside school holidays when you would have more room generally but we felt let down and certainly the hotel manager made us fell unworthy of a decent room.

If the above does'nt bother you then an otherwise lovely hotel in every other aspect ie, immaculately clean, beautiful grounds, modern comfy rooms with roomy bathrooms and delicious food every mealtime with superb views over the ocean in the Atalantic restaurant.

Just come back from a fantastic holiday at the Clubhotel Gran Canaria. The facilities were great and the view from the Antlantico restaurant (directly overlooking the Atlantic ocean) was amazing. I thought my 17 year old son might be bored but there was loads to do without the staff being pushy. Generally the staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely highly recommend this hotel.
