“Great Location & Hotel”
Reviewed 23 April 2013

Friendly staff, clean room, short walking distance to rocky beach, sandy beach and maspolomas. Plenty of choice of restaurants, supermarkets, shops etc. We paid £300pp for 5 nights with teletext so happy with price. Not much choice in food, so if you are picky, meaning you dont like eurpoean food, fish, rice etc, you should not go half or full board. Plenty of places to buy food if youre self catering, or restaurants if you want to eat out. Not really a hotel for kids, they will get board, great for couples as quiet, good location and plenty to see together. Only complaints would be that the jacuzzi was not warm, and if you have a transfer, its one of the last stops so it takes an hour to get there from the airport. Good 3 star hotel if you find a bargain price.

Just back from a week at Cay Beach, Meloneras.

Resort is located in a hotel ghetto of sorts, although a posh kind. The Atlantic ocean is just 400m away, but the beach is about 2km away, and that beach is not children friendly. The area is new, and its just hotels.

Rooms are ok, fairly new and neutrally decorated. Quite clean. Pools are good. Children pool also good. The playground very small. Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant is just awful. The food is like a caferia near Dusseldorf. Only eat there as a last resort. The bar food is actually a lot better.

In sum, most is ok, but the facility is a bit pricey, and factoring that in, I can't rate it more than average.

Room Tip: Don't eat at the restaurant!

Stayed in the Hotel late February 2012 for 7 nights. We arrived at the Hotel approximately 6pm, thankfully just before another coach load arrived in reception! The transfer from airport took around 1hr 20minutes. The very helpful receptionist explained the few bits and bobs and off we went to find our room. It’s a little distance between the reception/canteen area and the furthest extents of the hotel perimeter, near where we were staying, but not too bad. Our room was an upstairs room with one other below. Reasonable sized room, sizeable bathroom with bath and shower and balcony area. Beds were two separate firm single beds, room had a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities (but no actual tea/coffee/milk) and TV and bathroom had hairdryer. TV contained mostly non-english channels, although there was BBC News/Sky News. All clean and tidy. Rooms are cleaned 5 times a week, the cleaners have Tuesdays and Thursdays off.

We initialled discovered a few minor issues with the room which were reported to reception the next morning. Within an hour, a technician was in our room and had them fixed. From the receptionists through to the canteen staff, all were extremely pleasant and friendly which is such an important part of the holiday.

Breakfast is served between 8am-10am, evening meal between 6:30pm and 9pm. There didn’t appear much of a morning peak, but in the evening by 7:45-8pm the majority of the restaurant was very quiet. On request, you can have a Picnic to take with you instead of Breakfast. We were concerned about food beforehand, especially as my partner is quite picky and neither of us particularly like Seafood but we had no problems. Each morning and evening there were different items on the menu, all served at a good temperature. Occasionally, they also served food outside such as a Barbeque or Paella, so remember to look out onto the porch area before choosing. The outside covered porch area overlooks the sea, it was lovely. There was only 1 night where we both struggled a little bit to choose what we wanted, but each night they always served chips and there were always bread rolls available so we made Chip Butties! Breakfast is the usual choice toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurts and a cooked option. For half board, drinks are provided at Breakfast but not for evening meal. Most nights we choose not to have a drink with our meal as we had some in the room, but on one occasion we had a half bottle of wine which cost 3 Euros 10. You are issued a red card on Check in which you need to take with you for each meal, which wasn’t explained to us at first. If you wish to eat their but aren’t Half Board, the cost is 13.50 Euro. There were a number of cats around during meal times, but they were very placid and didn’t bother us at all.

For entertainment, there were many pools dotted around the complex including Jacuzzis. They weren’t heated though so quite cold! Always plenty of sun loungers available and was quiet, even during some of the half term period we were there. There was also Mini Golf available and plenty of pool tables (which I think were free but we didn’t use). Of an evening, entertainment was sometimes provided including Parrots, Dancers and a reptile show. If you plan to go to Palmitos Park, don’t bother with the hotels Parrot show. The dancers were good. Reptile show average. Both animal shows tried to get you to have a photo with the animals and were charging 20 Euros! We took a taxi a couple of evenings to Playa del Ingles, which cost around 4.50-5 Euros each way. There is a taxi “rank” outside the hotel, although best to get reception to ensure a taxi is on its way. Unfortunately, there aren’t any local bus stops nearby even though some of the buses use the roads next to the complex so you need to walk into Maspalomas (the bus station isn’t too far away from the lighthouse if you’re looking at a map).

From the complex, there is an exit to take you a short walk down onto the seafront. You soon reach a fork, where you can turn right to Meloneras Beach (5 minutes walk) or left to Maspalomas Beach (10-15 minutes walk). If you go out of the front entrance and turn right, a 10-15 minute walk (if you cut across the gravel outside the Auditorium) gets you to a supermarket, casino and eventually the bus station. This supermarket is much cheaper than the onsite supermarket. The bus station provides services to most parts of Gran Canaria, with a handy board of prices. Most are between 2-3 Euros per person, each way. Bus Number 70 to Palmitos Park leaves around 10am.

To balance out, there were some minor issues. The rooms were kept clean and tidy, towels replaced etc. But they didn’t change our sheets during the stay. Not a problem when you’re at home, but with lots of sand etc. even just one change would have been preferred. There are only 2 entry/exits from the complex which are close to each other near the main reception, you can end up walking around a bit getting to places even though the general location of the hotel was excellent. The beds were two singles, which I’ve stayed in before and isn’t usually an issue. But as the floor was tiled, they quite often slid apart and we usually slept most nights apart. As had been mentioned, deposits were required for the safe, TV remote etc. There was also a slight lack of local places to go in the evening unless you wanted to walk into Meloneras or Maspalomas, the bar area at the hotel lacked any atmosphere or usually people, the hotel isn’t situated in the middle of a town which we preferred but others might not.

We’d have no hesitation in returning. Immediately. We are a young couple, but enjoy peace and quiet. Resort is modern and clean with good facilities and a definite change from the more tacky resorts but you can still access these for an evening if you wished.

Me and my girlfriend stayed on this hotel for a week and were quite satisfied taken into consideration the relatively low price we paid. I have to agree with other reviewers saying this is not a 4 star, but rather a 3 star hotel. The facilities are good, but the rooms are not too impressive -- the bed was hard and sometimes we had no hot water in the shower. On the plus side, the size of the room (especially the bathroom) was good.

The location is good with short walking distance to Meloneras Beach and a nice stroll away from Maspalomas with lots of nice resturants and shops. For the same low price, we would be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the ground floor if you like it sunny.

We stayed for one week in a ground floor apartment. It was quite good size, and it was situated right next to the swimming pool. On the plus side, the hotel had a good location, very quiet, yet close to the centre of Meloneras and Maspalomas beach. Cleaning was very efficient, and the hotel had a nice pool bar that served both drinks and OK fast food. There is also a mini market which is open from 8.00 til 19.00. The hotel grounds are very nice, and the facilities are good. The reception staff is very friendly and service-minded.

There are, however, a few downsides to the hotel as well. First of all, there are deposits for nearly everything, including an estra key (which is handy when you need a key just to keep the lights on), remote for the TV, pool towels etc.The beds are rock hard, almost like sleeping on the floor, plus the air conditioning was rather noisy. We switched it off - prolem solved (it is not really needed in January). Also, I would disagree with our tour operator, who claims this is a four star hotel. It really isn't. It is a really decent 3 star, but that's it.

We did not eat at the hotel restaurant, so I cannot comment on the food there.

If I stay here again, it will probably be because of price, as it is a lot cheaper than many other hotels in Meloneras.

I was looking forward to stay at this hotel as I had read so many good reviews on Tripadvisor, but me and my fiancèe were both very disappointed. The tour operator rates this as i 4-star hotel, but I would'nt give it more than 3-stars - a weak 3-stars. But the price where very good for this area.

Let's start with the positives:

- The pool areas are nice with big, clean pools and a lot of sun beds. There are also nice bubblebaths.
- The reception area is also nice and clean.
- There's a shop under the reception that has all you need; wine, bread, water, newspapers and candy. But they don't sell beach towels.
- Next to the shop thers a game room with internet. This works well. Costs 1 euro - 10 min.
- They got a "tennis"-court on the area. It was fun to play, but be carefull as the balls can go over the fence. If it gets out on the street, hopefully somone outside will throw it back to you, or else you have to go ALL the way to the other side of the hotel to get out and get it.
- Nice TV (but no remote).
- Big balcony
- Nice garden
- It's a 5 min walk down to the seaside. Relly nice to take a walk towards Maspolamas and the "Mini Sahara".
- OK exercise room

Now for the negatives:

- The rooms really could need a renewing. Especially the outside furniture and the bathroom.
- The bathroom gets really moist, so if you like your towels to dry, hang them outside.
- They clean the rooms and gives you new towels and toilette-rolls only every 2. day. This was annoying when the towels did'nt dry up in the bathroom.
- Bring your own pillow if you don't like it flat and hard.
- The hotel is right next to a neighbourhood of loud familys and barking dogs, and the rooms aren't good isolated so it doesen't help to close the door.
- Since it is'nt good isolated, it is annoying with neighbors who slam the door.
- The "tennis"-court was full of leaves and sand. When you pay to use the court, the least you could expect is it to be clean.
- If you have a room on the east-side of the hotel, you have to walk and walk to get out of the hotel-area as the two entrances are on the west-side.
- You have to pay a deposit to get an extra card and a remote to the TV!

It's a 10-15 min walk to the restaurant and shopping area. A taxi costs 3 euro. We didn't try the restaurant at the hotel as the review of the food here was bad. The restaurants on the strip along the seaside are OK, but there are a lot of people here, so book a table to be shure to get one. We loved the Ambassador restaurant at the Lopesan Costa Meloneras hotel. And If we where going back to Meloneras, we probably would book at the Lopesan instead of Cay beach.

Room Tip: Near a pool or near the receptionarea so you are near the entrance to the hotel. Next to the "t...

Our family of 5 stayed in a two-stories high "bungalow" this August and I have to say it was possibly the best holiday venue we have ever stayed at. We went for 11 nights at the end of August (into the begining of September) and thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. The pool areas were quiet and there were always plenty of parasols and sun loungers available, but this may well have been because we were visiting at end of season. The pool areas are super, there are 2 seperate pool areas with 3 large pools in total, aswell as a jbaby pool, jacuzi and a hydro bath type. There is a small park area withon the gated complex directly adjacent to the main pool, so the children (9, 12 & 14) were safe and always within eye shot. There was a mini club that our 3 boys went to & they made friends, there was also pool games and they all enjoyed and joined in which was great. We didn't find the food to be the best, infact this was the only thing that let the hotel down, but there are plenty of restaurants in the area. It's a short & pleasant walk along a very pretty tree lined promenade to the beach and numerous restaurants. The area is far nicer and less tacky than other areas of Gran Canaria that we drove through on our transfer to the hotel (such as Maspalomas or Playa Del Ingles), I was so pleased when we first arrived-the whole complex is very modern, attractive and pretty-a really lovely looking hotel-clean, spacious and modern. The bungalows were great with a kitchen area, out side court-yard for drying wet stuff with a clothes airer, 2 bathrooms each with a hairdryer & a downstairs patio and upstairs sun balcony (if you take the 2 bedroom option). You can hire pool towells which is always handy (small charge and deposit) and the staff were very helpful and friendly. There is a small shop with all the esentials you may need & more shops a short walk away. I'm sure we would all like to go back some day...if we were to return to Gran Canaria I can imagine we would be booking back here.
