Reviewed 25 September 2012

Just returned from 7 days at Sheraton Salobre Golf Resort & Spa.
Would endorse all the positive and negative comments that I've read in the recent reviews below. Rooms are spacious and very clean (but don't expect to put your own drinks in the fridge or expect tea making facilities (though you can ask room service for your 'free'tea which takes about 20 minutes to arrive), service is mostly very good (almost too quick at times; in the restaurant they favour the American way of whipping away plates the moment any person on the table has finished), staff are generally polite and welcoming. An excellent feature is that beach/pool towels are provided free, preventing the need to pack (good on restricted baggage allowance flights). The beach house owned by the hotel provides free towels and has a nice little pool to relax in, away from the hubub of the beach area.
The spa area at the hotel is a bit more relaxed than the 11th floor sunset pool area although we did use it on a free voucher!
A few caveats; be prepared that the hotel is isolated with little (or no) nightime entertainment. There is a free courtesy bus to the coast (20 mins ride) roughly every hour, although the first bus often gets full (book at reception as soon as you get up and ignore any 'rule you see about only being able to book an hour before!) and from there a bus to the capital in the North takes about 1.25 hours and costs around 7 euros.
Drinks are pretty expensive; 3 medium (less than a pint) beers and a medium soft drink at dinner comes to circa £20 (25 Euros).
The breakfast area gets unpleasantly busy between 10.00 and 10.30; partly I think, because the Spanish eat later, and partly because people are trying to last from breakfast to evening dinner on half board, without having the expense of buying lunch. The egg-man cooking fresh eggs doesn't rush! If you can go nearer 9.00 and can still last out to dinner, then it's a more pleasant experience.
If you're happy (as we were) to sit by a pool in the warm sunshine (28 degrees late September), then the hotel is good, but if you get bored easily, then this one (and perhaps this island) is probably not for you.

Not really enthusiastic... The location is a bit remote, in the midst of a moon-like landscape, a gigantic real-estate development area around a golf course. The hotel building itself is weird, a bit 'disassembled', with different buildings accessed by different lifts. On the other hand, the top floor pool is superb, and to avoid crowding there are many smaller ones, in different levels. The rooms are good, with a negative note: the shower area is a big window to the room, allowing for no privacy (assuming that not all people who share rooms are couples...) and no comfort, in case one of the guests needs to use the bathroom during the night, turning on the lights that 'flood' the room. A curtain, even on the outside of the window, would be nice.
As for the food (we were on HB), the first night buffet was good, and the first BF also... But then, it was a sequence of the same 'sameness' every day. The 'a la carte' restaurant was a big no-no, except for the view and the service.
Being far away from the beach was not so nice either, unless you go for the golf, what I cannot value. There is nothing else around, even a small convenience shop, only accessible by car.
Not bad, on the whole, but I would definitely choose something else, come the opportunity.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay with us. We are glad to learn that you liked our Sunset pool and buffet. We will pass on your compliments to our management.

Regarding the shower window, I am happy to inform you that some of our rooms have an opaque glass, for the same privacy concern you mentioned.

I stayed here nearly two years ago and aim to return sometime early next year! My memories are all positive of the hotel...a nice welcome drink on check in to help cool you down after an hour or so journey from the airport!! Concierge were helpful taking us up to the room...I wouldn't attempt this by yourself as the complex is large and on various levels. The rooms are nice with the standard Sheraton sweet sleeper bed (for those who travel within Sheraton and other Starwood hotels you'll be aware of just how amazing these are!!) The resort is nice and very relaxing and not overcrowded like other properties throughout Europe. The four poster sun beds are amazing and for Adults only so even more relaxing! One negitive point is the distance from civilization- you are up in the mountains and far away (even the shop is a 15 minute walk!) But again this adds to the relaxation and 'escape' from reality.

Search for a good deal, find good flights and I guarentee you'll enjoy your time at the Sheraton Salobre Resort whether it be to relax, play golf or travel the rest of the Island.

Enjoy!!

Room Tip: Be careful...the showers are see through!! So if your with a family member this can be akward! DT ro...

We have just returned from a 7 nights stay at this hotel and have had a lovely time. We arrived late and the staff were very friendly. Check in was quick and we were offered a glass of Cava on arrival. We were given a map in order to get to our room, which at first was tricky but getting around was not that bad once you got used to it.

We got to our room which was very impressive, nice views out on to the golf course and very quiet. The bathroom was great and as a couple we didn’t find the glass door to the shower an issue. The only time you could see someone is if they went to use the sink.

We stayed half board so we could have breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was very good we plenty of choices. However we did find that as the week went on it became busier and busier. People queuing for eggs did make it difficult to access some of the breakfast items. We ate most nights in the buffet restaurant Gofio which had a great selection of both hot and cold foods (I can be very fussy when it comes to dinner but I had no complaints and always found something I wanted to eat. Sometimes too much!!). We also had dinner in the Al la Carte restaurant which was very good we decided to have a few extras (Well you are on holiday after all!) the food was excellent, we had all four courses and didn’t have any issues. However I did here a couple complaining about the pork being chewy this may have been because of their false teeth :).

There are plenty of seating areas all over the hotel, we especially like to sit in the sunken areas very relaxing. We spent a few nights in the bar which was very quiet and had no problem ordering drinks from the staff members, who were all very nice and sometimes joked with us.

The hotel has many pools scattered around the different floors, we spent most of our time at the pool on the 11th floor as the views were spectacular. We also has use of the Spa pool which I thought was the nicest pool in the hotel as the people there seemed to be of a different calibre than those on the 11th floor. I may only be in my 20's but I don’t enjoy watching and listening to young men and women showing off in front of each other. Whilst at the Spa I had a full body massage, which was amazing and I would defiantly recommend anyone to have a treatment.

We didn’t use the beach house in fact we didn’t really do much other than relax and enjoy our holiday. We did rent a car to explore the island but later found there wasn’t really much to do. However we did take a trip to maspalmomas which has a nice front with a few restaurants. This hotel was great and I would advise anyone who wants a holiday not doing anything but relaxing to go here. I don’t normally write reviews but we had such a relaxing time here and reading some of the previous comments thought I would write one.

Sheraton Salobre, Gran Canaria

The hotel is on a golf resort in a remote part of southern Gran Caneria, about seven miles west of Maspalomas. It is very easy to get to by car as it is one mile from a motorway junction, and a half hour drive along the motorway from the airport. My wife and I hired a Toyota Yaris from Top Car AutoRisen at Euros 107 all in. The car was booked through their website and the pick-up from the airport was very straight forward, and in no time at all we were under way. The location is very quiet and the hotel is set onto the side of a hill. Many with a car, park for free on the road outside the hotel in the road’s third lane, which is marked off for parking use. You can park underneath the hotel at a rate of 7 Euro’s per day. The road parking seems secure, especially considering you have to go through a barrier control to get onto the golf resort.

Hotel check in was very polite and quick. They offered us to pay as we go for extras, or to take a credit card swipe and charge it at the end of our stay. We were given a useful colour coded map of the hotel which is needed at first as various parts of the hotel are scattered about the hillside. To get to our room it required going through two lifts. The reception area lift does not go to any of the rooms, and after going up one level we had to walk to another building and get into another lift before getting to our floor. Then it was a longish walk to our room which was at the end of a block, which perhaps was good as no one walked past our door late at night waking us up making a noise. The room is very nicely styled, although the toilet is in a room of its own, the bath, shower and two wash basins were behind a large eight foot by three foot sheet of glass. This means whoever is in this area can be seen clearly from where the bed is inside the room. There should be a blind there to give some privacy when required. Anyway, the view from the balcony looking across the golf course and hills was fantastic. The room mini bar was of the, you touch an item, you will be charged for it automatically through it’s electronic sensors. So there was no emptying of the fridge to put in our own wine! However, we did find an out in the corridor wall mounted ice maker in the next block to ours which was very hand for getting ice to cool drinks in the evening. The soft queen size bed was very comfortable, and the room had all the usual kind of things, telephone, hair dryer, flat screen TV, wash room range of soaps, but no tea and coffee making facilities. We often take our own kettle so it was not a problem. At the security barrier, half a mile down the road from the hotel, there is a fantastic Spar shop that sells most things you might need. In the shop a bottle of wine was 3 Euro’s, can of beer 0.5 Euro’s. We were booked in half board so had to pay for our drinks. An example of drinks cost at the hotel is, in the sunset pool bar we paid Euro’s 10.28 for a beer and sprite, with dinner a nice drinkable bottle of wine was between Euro’s 16 to 21.

Food from the main buffet restaurant, Gofio, was very enjoyable and of the cold foods the choice was huge. Hot food was limited in choice, although there was always something we could eat. However, as part of half board we were able to take the set menu of the day from other restaurants when open. Some open on Wednesday and close on Sunday. Other restaurants are, Sunset at the pool bar, La Palmera which is casual, Camaleon – A La Carte, Perenquen – Tapas Bar, and there is a bar lounge which open until 01:00.

The hotel publishes an A5 daily newsletter sheet detailing where you can eat, bus times for the free shuttle bus to the beach house, expected weather and so on.

The big down side for this hotel is the poor level of service most staff give, which is unusual for a Sheraton Hotel. Examples are; several times at different bars when asking for a drink, I had to wait until staff had finished their chat with other members of staff before being served. On second day two sets of towels taken from room for washing and only one set returned, had to ask reception for another set to be given. Glasses taken from room for cleaning and none returned, even when asked for at reception. At dinner in the main buffet restaurant plates left on table to pile up as we were going through our courses. Ants crawling on our table in the main buffet restaurant which I had to flick off many times. They need to use ant proof table legs if there is an ant problem. The day and night reception staff gave a very good service, others should follow their example.

This is a really nice hotel in a lovely quiet location and we were able to secure our accommodation at a bargain price. Given that, we had a nice stay for the money paid, but I would not want to pay the rates I have seen often advertised as most of the staff’s poor performance let this hotel down. At a Sheraton Hotel I do anticipate a high level of service. A happy customer is often a returning customer, and more profit for the hotel and secure employment for its staff.

Good hotel, had a lovely week here, lovely rooms, although the view was poor so make sure you book a sea view, the golf course is excellent, built into the rocks it makes it a very interesting course to play. I played there with my boyfriend and it was a perfect week of golf.
Good service in hotel, although slightly over priced, good spa. The golf was about 200 euros aday so make sure you book as part of package otherwise the week will cost lots.
Not near anything else but perfect for a week away to chill, swim or play golf.

As we have reached the age whereby peace and quiet is the order of the day, then this was perfect.
Although it is advertised as a golf resort and spa i would say that most of the guests had no intention of playing a round and the only evidence we had of golfing clientele was one morning at breakfast when i shouted to my partner how many pieces of toasted she wanted, when she shouted ' four' half the restaurant ducked through force of habit !!.
Check in was easy and we were greeted with friendly staff and over the week we found them very polite and extremely helpful.
The hotel was that quiet it made our i pads a God send as i get bored lying in the sun just reading , there was not free wifi and we paid 42 euros for the week although the nice receptionist gave us the ability to use both our i pads for the same price.
As we were half board we had the option of the buffet for breakfast and evening meals or one of the restaurants, we found the food in the buffet was very good, ( although they never get the bacon right !! ) they even had a joint of ham that you carved yourself for breakfast.
We only used the restaurant once but would not recommend it, no choice for the starters and only either a meat or a fish dish for the main. However the buffet dinner was very good and even better when we discovered the grill station on the second day, .
We did find the drinks very expensive but probably in line with any other establishment of this quality, we had to pay £10 for half a shandy and half of local beer, we did not get drunk !
There was a free courtesy bus that took you down to the beach about 6 miles away, probably our only gripe about that was that it stopped running about 7 ish and the last return was 7.30 pm, but the taxi fare back was only 13 euros so probably worked out cheaper with the cheaper drinks down at the beach bars.
We had a room on the 8th floor and found nothing to complain about, we found the room spacious, great shower and bath facilities and very large balcony and when we asked for tea and coffee equipment they were very helpful and brought up the sachets and milk as well, i dont think these are standard to the rooms.
There are lots of pools scattered around that we only found one of them on the last day. The spa was lovely and we had 3 free visits of 2 hours duration, and the pool there was a lot warmer than the other ones .
In summing up it was a lovely hotel with very nice staff but once was enough and there would not be a reason to go back again.

Room Tip: some of the rooms had bigger balconies with 2 mattresses, very nice for that extra relaxation.
