It was with a little trepidation having read some dreadful reviews about this hotel, that we took off for a full 2 weeks in the Luna Holiday complex. The hotel is immaculate, our studio apartment was immaculate, clean, well appointed, maybe not the lap of luxury, but all you would need for a self catering studio. OK we had paid for a superior room, which had TV (crap films and only sky news available) and air conditioning, but we were delighted with the room. It could have done with some more kitchen implements, and maybe a proper cooker, but the shop below the hotel, catered for everything, was reasonably priced and if you wanted to feed yourself was stocked with absolutely everything.
The hotel is right on every bus route, you can get a weekly bus ticket for £12 euro which allows you to travel throughout Malta. Mellieha town itself, is a sharp ride up the hill, (but ticket very handy) however if you are looking for a beach, the one we went to Mellieha for, was very disappointing, Malta doesn't do beaches, be warned.

The roof top pool was excellent, lovely setting, panoramic view. Helpful attentive staff, but I could however see why some people were disgruntled to be in a room looking on to another. We were looking out the front, onto a panoramic view of a church , but it was noisy at night with very drunken (Danes ) partying till the early hours, as the bar was directly below us. all in all a lovely holiday, lovely accommodation, but it is a studio.... not a flat.
Hotel food was disappointing, and there are around a dozen restaurants within walking distance, but all serve the same, pasta, pizza, pasta, with a few more upmarket ones selling fish and rabbit dishes. Mellieha town doesn't have much more to offer, but we found we ate in a fair bit.

Good Morning,

Thank you for your detailed review. I am glad to read that overall you enjoyed your stay with us.

If you are looking for a larger apartment we do have the Superior Family apartments with a proper kitchen installed rather than a kitchenette.

I am sorry you did not find the hotel food Appetizing, we do have a variety of Buffets and A la carte menus in different outlets in the hotel.

Thank you once again for the review, and I do hope to see you again in the future, do drop me a mail if you wish to return.

Warm regards

Kyle

We stayed at the Luna in August and found it a wonderful base to explore Malta. Having booked direct we chose to stay in a refurbished superior family apartment and we were most impressed with the quality of the apartment and the consistent changing of sheets/removal of rubbish during our two week stay. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful recommending places to go, etc. The pools were well maintained and the bar snacks were helpful when we wanted a lazy day by the pool. With the bus stop outside the hotel we found it easy to explore many places and also enjoyed many evening walks along the sea front. We cannot fault the hotel and will be booking again for next year as my children also enjoyed it so much (will be doing more diving with the dive school attatched to hotel). The mini market underneath our apartment was handy and well priced with an excellent range of food and lovely fresh bread. Well done and thank you to all the staff who worked so hard and some of whom have worked there for some years, which I think speaks for itself.

Room Tip: Te supeior family apartments are superb, we had a lovely sea view and was very quiet in the evenings.

We booked two Superior Studio, and one Standard Studio for 7 nights. Each Superior Studio was €420, and the standard €315. I was expecting much more for that price; here is a list of things that were wrong with this hotel, for this price range:

- When we arrived to Luna Holiday Complex and got to our rooms, we found that instead of the Superior Studios double beds we booked in http://www.booking.com/, they actually have two twin beds put together. When we asked if we could get what we booked for, they said they could put double sheets on the two beds if we wanted to. The option is still available in the website.

- Beds were fairly unconfortable. The mattress was old, and the bed base was a plank.

- The bed sheets were too small, and did not cover the whole bed; the mattress cover was also too small and could not be tucked in properly under the mattress, so they came undone very easily. It was not possible to spend one hour with the cover in place, much less the four days it took them to change them.

- Towels were changed every two days, bed linens every four, and they did not smell freshly cleaned anyway.

- The drain in our shower did not drain properly.

- The free soap was pretty bad. There was no shampoo or conditioner, or any other complementary toiletries, which are common in cheaper hotels.

- Toilet paper was not replenished during our stay. You could get more by asking at the front desk.

- We were given a very old towel full of wholes, which is not something I would expect for this price. We were given a new one on request.

- Most of the staff was friendly (most, not all), but not helpful in any meaningful way. The 8th of September is a bank holiday in Malta, and we asked if Fort Rinella would be open, or any attractions in Valletta. We were told nothing would be open in Valletta, which straight out was not true, and that they were not sure about the fort but probably not, and left it at that. A quick call to the fort confirmed it was indeed open. The fort was great,by the way.

- The roof pool was supposed to be open until 19:00, but we tried to get in at 18:45 on our second day to find it closed. We went down to reception to ask why it was closed, and they told us it closes at 19:00; when we pointed out the clock next to the clerk which showed 18:50, she told us the pool was probably closed for maintenance. I asked if there was any reason why this maintenance was not done after opening hours, to which she replied that the pool was closed probably for security reasons. I thought this was the worst excuse she could give, but the vagueness and lack of motivation to check and give an actual, factual answer was the worst part.

We will not be coming back to this hotel.

Good Morning,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, I apologise that you were not satisfied with your stay.

Thanks to your comment regarding the double bed, we have emailed booking.com to rectify the description as all our Superior studios are twin beds.

I have also already sat down with the reception staff and the information desk(which is outsourced) regarding the misinformation they gave you regarding the fort, I do apologies for this. Also your point on the pool was raised in the meeting, there was one particular day during your stay were it closed early due to a function but it was not clearly marked. I am sorry about that.

With regard to your other comments, I will check with maintenance and housekeeping.

Thank you again for your review!
Warm regards

Kyle

When we arrived at LUNA HOLIDAY COMPLEX we had confirmation that he had chosen well. Clean, quiet and relaxing rooms. Beautiful views of the promontory on which stands the church dedicated to Maria Bambina and that was celebrated during our stay ... just simply amazing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with air conditioning.

We arrived at the Luna at 11am - check in's not until 2pm but when staff saw we had 3 children in tow they wasted no time in arranging a room for us. Initially we had booked in to a normal family room, but rushing to make our stay a good one the fabulous staff changed our booking and put us in the new luxury family suite....we were thrilled!! The rooms were brand new, big and spacious with all essentials ready and waiting, no complaints whatsoever. We popped out and when we came back to the room there was a bottle of red wine and 2 glasses set out on the table with a 'Thank you for returning' letter - this was our 6th time at The Luna Complex. The staff are friendly, kind, helpful and polite. Gabrielle who worked on the front desk is a wonderful young lady whose smile is warm and welcoming. The hotel is clean, quiet, tidy and well run. We absolutely love it here and wouldn't ever think to go stay anywhere else. Thank you for having us!!

Room Tip: We've stayed in all the different rooms at The Luna because we used to go just as a couple and we now go with our children and all the rooms are great. Land view rooms are on a road but the traffic was never bedlam and the views of Mellieha church are beautiful
